Elijah stood up and dusted his clothes before walking back to the spot where he had parked his car. Unlocking it, he opened the door to the backseat where he had kept his cell phone and other belongings. Picking up his cell phone, he closed the door and dialed Mia's number.
She did not answer the first time, so he tried again, and then again. Elijah kept continuously calling her despite her not answering any of the 15 calls that he made. He called her again for the last time, deciding to go see her in person if she did not answer again.
The events of the previous night kept on replaying in his mind like a relentless nightmare. He could not waste any more time in finding out if what his father said was true or not. He heaved a sigh of relief when the call got connected this time, but it was not Mia's voice that greeted him.
"Hello?" Amelia, Mia's mother's voice was cold, each syllable dripping with barely contained disdain.
