Chapter 26: The Mark

After spending time with his parents and 'mate'.

He was walking in one of the hallway of the castle with someone next to him as he listened to her talking her thoughts attentively.

Alaric was happy and satisfied after having to spend time with his loved ones.

As he thought about the words 'loved ones', his mind drifted to a certain she-wolf who sat with his mother before they interrupted their happy conversation.

'Did she tell my mother about her being my mate?' he thought as his eyes narrowed. This spoilt his happy mood,' If she did–no, there is no way. Knowing my mother she would have been angry.

l won't accept her! After all, Adelda was there whe–.'

"Alaric! Hellooo, earth to Alaric." uttered Adelda as she snapped her fingers in front of his face, interrupting Alaric's thoughts.

"Ah..." he said absentmindedly as he stared at Adelda who stood next to him, her one arm wrapped around his arm as she smiled beautifully at him.

Her rosy, pink lips scratched as she stared back at him.

"Sorry, l was in deep thought just now. What were you saying?"

Adelda pouted as she sadly looked at Alaric," You're always absentminded ever since you went to the training facility. Is it about her..." she said trailing off, as she quickly looked at the other way, 'thinking about'

"Adelda–"

" Good evening, the light of this beautiful empire of ours and Miss Adelda, mate to his highness." A unknown dark blond haired and brown eyed man, wearing a butler outfit which was black in colour uttered as he bowed with a smile.

They both turned to look at the man who stood before them. Alaric angrily glared at him as he was interrupted by him while Adelda's expression darkened as she frowned.

They both did not notice his presence until he spoke. Adelda stopped holding Alaric's arm as she glared at the man.

"Hello, Fidel. Why have you came here?" inquired Adelda with an solemn tone, but unnoticeable, her hands were shaking in fear. Why?

Oh no! She wasn't shaking because of him, but rather the man who he is working for.

Well, Fidel is loyal butler of the house of Miller or to be more precise her father's loyal dog that he can use or even dispose of anytime soon.

Fidel is just an omega who swore his loyalty to her father after he was 'saved' by Usia, Adelda's father, years ago.

He wasn't saved, but rather found by chance on the streets, about to die of starvation and Usia thought he was easy to be manipulated; to do his bettings.

It worked and he was being used like a pawn on a chessboard.

"Oh my, no need to be in a hurry, miss. There is... pardon my words, but unnecessary people." he said side-eyeing Alaric as he talked to Adelda. He had an uneasy smile plastered on his face.

Alaric glared at Fidel as directed tint of his aura which made Fidel's smile to disappear in a second.

"I apologize your highness, but this matter is between me and Adelda. No outsiders." he uttered in a polite tone this time.

Before Alaric could retaliate, Adelda spoke," Honey, just go. It's seems important so please don't try to argue and leave us alone."

Alaric seemed hesitate, but he did what she said and went away from them. Finally, leaving them alone.

"That's more like it. He's annoying, but at least he's out of our fur." Fidel said jokingly as he laughed a little, but this just seems to make Adelda furious.

"What do you want?! Did my father send you here?!" she exclaimed angrily as she stomped her heel on the floor in anger.

This uprightly halted Fidel from laughing," Humph! You are no fun and yes your father sent me here to deliver a message to you."

"Is it about the assassination plan?"

"Yes and he wants to see you in the library, right now. So follow me."

"What? Now!"

She was surprised and showed fear on her face this time.

However, she slowly calmed down as she breathed slowly, placing her hand on her chest.

"Let's go."

The mansion always seemed to be gloomy and cold.

Maids were in their sleeping quarters as it was night time, so the hallways were silent.

They got to the door that leads to the library and just it was her father.

Adelda was nervous," Please miss. The master Usia is waiting for you." Fidel uttered as he gestured his hand for her to go in.

She breathed out before pushing the door open. There was rows and rows of shelves of books.

Lights lit up the whole library and Usia sat on the one person sofa, reading a book in his one hand while drinking tea in the other.

Adelda walked towards him and greeted him," Good evening father."

"Did you get rid of her?" Usia uttered coldly getting straight to the point as he sipped his tea, reading his book. He didn't even give her a glance.

"No..." she lowered her head in shame.

Usia glared at her with rage, closing the book and it on the table that next to the sofa," You useless piece of sh*t!

You can't even do that task and it involved the best well-known assassination organisation! Why is that?!" he roared at her.

He threw his tea cup on her feet which immediately spilt and broke into pieces.

She shivered in fear in her father's presence.

"I think she won't have survived if it weren't for Alaric being involved." she uttered hastily as she looked at her father with crazed eyes.

"Well, then you have to be involved physically...and to guarantee he still loves you. You have to be marked." he said with a smirk.

"What? Father, this is not something you can decide out of bait. l don't think Alaric would agree..." she trailed off.

Yes, to mark someone is the same as marriage.

By marking, mates will share one scent of each other and symbol will appear on the place they bitten which is marking, commonly on the neck or shoulder.

However, if it is not between mates then the one mate will eventually be killed in the process because his/ her mate marking another she-wolf or male.

"Don't try acting like you are innocent, afterall you murdered your mate before so you should be easy enough. Try seducing him or manipulating him."

"..."

"Don't fail me Adelda. This is your last chance."

"Yes, father. l won't fail you, but give me a few days to convince him."

"Good."
