Chapter 12: Time for a Compromise

“It’s not that I hate you. I just don’t want you to suffer the way–” Mykel started but stopped before he could finish his sentence to grimace in pain.

Desmond’s frustration eased at the expression on Mykel’s face. He knew why he had stopped. The wound on his abdomen had reopened while he was fighting the shadow creatures off. None of that would have happened if he’d let Desmond heal him fully the first time. Now, here they were, hiding in a back alley deep in the city because Mykel was too wounded to fight back. That was a fact that he had known, apparently.

“You’re still hurt. Just sit down for a minute and let me help you,” Desmond said.

“No, I don’t need your help,” Mykel snapped back.

“Look, you already know you can’t face those Dark Ones alone. How long can we really keep running like this before it finds us?” Desmond pressed.
