Chapter Two

All it took was a look. A disapproving look, spread with a calm tone and a ganache of guilt and Damian found himself in a third world country for six months. He had never thought that he would make this trip but after all the nagging he had endured from his brother and Lynnet, he decided to make the overdue trip. So here's what he knew about his location;

Continent: Africa

Country: Uganda

Town: somewhere called Makindye in a three bedroomed, two baths, a fine and practical kitchen adjourning the dinning area and sitting room apartment. Well furnished and leased for the next six months.

Connection: Evangeline's Shelter for Girls and Evans Ayebale. The former he had met at conference in Thailand and quickly a friendship had blossomed between the two men. Evans had made it his mission to invite Damien to Uganda every year. Till now he had never made the trip.

Hobbies: Rugby, sex, work, obsessing about Evangeline Kata, work, work and more work.

Dislikes: Evangeline Kata, Her texts, her emails, her phone calls and her never ending photos. Evangeline Kata's seductive voice and her .... basically her.

His family didn't know about this main connection to the country. Evans, they had met and welcomed. However, Evangeline Kata was his secret.  "A safari" they thought was his main agenda but in reality he wanted to meet the Great, annoying, frustrating and irritating founder of the shelter he had been making donations to, Evangeline Kata, the bain of his existence.

The woman sent him exactly 258 emails last year alone requesting that he comes and visit the foundation.  She called him 239 times requesting he makes an appearance at the foundation. She sent him 321 messages of the ongoing activities at the shelter. The cherry on top was 5487 photos sent to him.  How does he know all this, he had counted. The woman was relentless. Damian's only mistake was becoming a donor for  Evangeline's Shelter for Girls. He invested in the project on a whim, during a certain drunk moment, when he responded to a stupid email he found in his email junk box. But that's not what turned Damian's life into a nightmare. It's her... Evangeline Kata.

She had a seductive voice made only for the bedroom. She talked like she had all the time in the world. Every word to him had an innuendo of the strange variety. She laughed as though he was sitting right next to her and leaving him with strange dreams. Her breath always sent impulses to his nether regions turning a cold night into a hot summer day. Cold showers didn't help because she made an appearance in his dreams every night.  Yet all she always talked about was the damn SHELTER.

He didn't know how she looked like because she was never in any of the photos sent to him. He had tried to find any photos online but all he got were for other workers at the shelter. At some point he was sure she was imaginary till one of the other donors he had sent in her direction gave him feedback of how "lovely" the creature was.

But for 5 years she had tortured him and he had endured like a good soldier. So now he was going to put an end to this lunacy once and for all.  Meet the chit, see her beloved shelter, have a tumble or maybe more in the sheets with her and get her out of his system once and for all. Probably it would require stupendous effort to get her out of his dreams but by all that's holy, he could do it.

Evangeline Kata, twin to Evans Ayebale was the youngest and only girl in a family of 4.  Two sets of twins, a running joke in the family about the fertility of their mother.

Age: 26years,

Occupation: Hotelier and Founder of Evangeline's Shelter for Girls.

Size: 5'4, tiny waist, big round bottom, tiny human according to her family, very light complexion that made her family think she was supposed to be an albino. Big brown eyes that made her look so innocent, a wide smile that brightened her face and made her look very interesting, full lips that implied she had a secret whenever she smiled which was very often  when closing a deal. She had a soothing husky voice that belonged to a seductress that she used to her advantage.

Hobbies: tormenting Damien Dunbar, working at the shelter, screaming at her twin brother, driving Damien crazy, fundraising for the shelter, teaching kids at the shelter, traumatizing Damian and travelling, and finally driving Damian insane.

The only thing that Evangeline Kata put before her happiness was the shelter. She had employees to cater for, kids whose education needed to be sponsored especially the boys because they were not given board. There were abused girls that needed a safe haven, orphaned girls that needed a home and care. They needed meals, education, health care and counselling. Once the girls made 18, the shelter set them free. They ensured that the girls got job placements, could provide for themselves, some got married and two of those were working at the shelter.

The world often forgot about these people but Evangeline Kata was not willing to forget them. She worked with Lawyers, Religious leaders, the police and community leaders. These contacts called her whenever they thought someone would benefit from the Shelter. To the community she was a God sent miracle for her generation. To the girls she was their mother. She understood their fears, distrust, anger and low self-esteem. To some extent helping these people had become therapeutic to her. Something that few people understood.

Although the shelter was mainly female oriented, Evangeline had set up a small project for young boys in similar situations. Educational scholarships were issued as well as counselling services. The boys were often sent to another Christian organization that was found in Ssembabule District.

Her mother thought she was too passionate. They reminded her about how she would not benefit from giving the shelter her all. They encouraged to guard her heart for fear of that one of those girls would break it. Some thought she was doing it for the money. Which was further from the truth. Money was not the drive. Money had never fueled her this way.

Evangeline Kata was doing it because she knew how it feels to be in their shoes.

Evangeline understood the desire for a fresh start, a new beginning, a chance at life without any skeletons and the need to live truly happy without judgement.
