I get out of my car and make my way towards mom and dads house. I stand on the porch and knock on the door. Mom answers it with a smile, but I can see she is worried behind the front she is putting up. I lean down and hug her. "Let me explain to you what's happening all over the world. It's going to change things for you and dad." She nods her head, and I walk inside. We make it to the living room, and dad is watching the news channel. It's talking about how players are turning into the alien races they selected in the game. The non-humanoid ones being the most extreme. Out of all the classes I saw during character creation, the number of humanoid ones was half. I recall the information I glanced over during character creation.
I sit down next to dad and watch the news program with him. "As counts of more and more people turning into their alien game characters rise, people are demanding justice and action against GBFT Inc." Many will be demanding action. Most humans will prefer to be... Well, human. "Scientists are scrambling to make a potential cure for the transformative properties that have occurred." As the news reporter says that my mind races—a cure for the transformation, but a way to keep abilities in the real world. I sure as hell want to keep mine. My mind rushes through all the knowledge I have on medicine and science. Everything is quickly put together, and I find a solution to this problem—a second scan to undo the transformative effects.
A scan for the gaming pods for all the people that have been changed. I can write a program and post it on the forums anonymously. While making money from this can work, that is a long process filled with paperwork and waiting. I already have more money than I'll ever spend in my life. I pull out my phone and open the program editor that comes with my phone. I start typing away and editing the codes from the gaming pods. Changing them to correct the physical changes. After I finish in more than likely record time, I load it into a folder. I head to the most popular forums around the world and do a cross-post through all the forums. I make sure I hide my digital footprint so nobody can find out who did this. My message reads as follows.
[Anonymous]
[I'm seeing the chaos that is happening around the world, and I thought I could help. This folder holds a program that rewrites the scanning process that changed everybody. It probably isn't common knowledge. That is how every one changed, from the changes made to our bodies during the scanning process. Once you download the folder, transfer it to a USB drive and plug it into your gaming pod. Get inside and wait for the program to run. I have already done all the work for you guys. Just let the program do its thing, and after a few hours, you should be back to your human-looking selves. I made sure that people won't lose their abilities though, that wouldn't be cool now, would it? I hope this brings you guys some peace.]
[~Sincerely, A fellow Gamer]
I press post, and it uploads to all the major forums across the world. I close my phone and turn back to the news program. It's going to be a few hours before any of the news regarding my post comes out. People will want to see results before reporting anything regarding the huge favor I just did. The best part no one even knows it's me. Well, one person at least does, which gave me the Primodium race and the tier 4 pre-order. However, that is something I'll discover over time. There is no immediate threat to me right now. I pick up the remote, and I turn off the T.V. "Let's get you guys all set up. Get into the gaming pods. I'll run a program that'll keep you human-looking." I'm going to have to update Jess again, but I'm going to help mom and dad for now.
They look at me with lots of hesitation, but I tilt my head in a way that conveys they can trust me. We walk into my old room. It has been turned into their gaming pod room. I open them help them inside. "Okay, the game will explain everything for you guys. While you are loading in, I'm going to run a program. Don't worry about anything. You can trust me." They both nod their heads as the gaming pods close. I use a wireless connection to run my custom program through the gaming pods, and now all I have to do is wait till they are done. They probably won't ever play the game. Now they won't have to worry about being weak humans anymore. I don't want my family to be weak normal people that could get hurt in a world filled with people with power.
I head back to the living room and sit on the couch, they are probably going to take a while, and knowing them, and I do. They'll read all the information they can, and they decide on what to pick. They'll likely pick different things, but there is a 12.3% chance that they'll pick the same races. I turn the T.V. back on and continue to listen to the news. As it plays, I shoot Jess a text with all the new changes to the plan. All she texts back is a question mark. I sigh and call her up and explain everything to her. Once I'm done with mom and dad, I'm going to have to help Jess. She doesn't know how to run a custom program in a gaming pod. I turn my attention back to the news segment, and it's showing footage of a bunch of alien-looking people rioting outside of GBFT Inc.
It's weird to see, no doubt, but also cool too. "As you can see, a bunch of people not happy with the outcome that has befallen them. I hope that the top scientists working on a solution find it soon. Cause millions more are transforming as the hour's pass." Earth's top scientists would be like nats in front of my intelligence. I've already posted a solution, and whoever takes credit for it can take the burdens that come with it. Having that kind of attention is going to ruin your normal life. "In more news regarding this event, GBFT Inc. has made an official statement regarding the situation at hand. We'll switch to the live footage that has just started." The screen shifts to a live stream of GBFT Inc. CEO Kelvin Dex.
He stands on a podium surrounded by security as protesters try and breakthrough. Good luck getting past those robots. "GBFT Inc. is here right now to apologize to the people of humanity. We are working our hardest to find out what caused this tragic accident. Rest assured, we have our best people working on this." Chaos erupts as he finishes his speech. Many alien-looking people try and break past the barricade of robots but have no luck. He made it sound like they had no idea this would happen. He is either lying and covering up some sick scientific project of forced evolution, or he is telling the truth. If he is telling the truth, someone who knows what their doing made changes to the scanning program before the game launched, which points to an A.I. once again.
I keep the news playing as I enter the kitchen to make something to eat. I continue to work on designs for starships and mech suits in my head. I'd love to make one in real life. We don't have the technology for it, and while I could reproduce the tech inside the game. It'd bring more trouble than it's worth. I make a bowl of chili and bring it back to the couch to continue watching. "The UN is planning to meet in 10 hours to discuss what to do next. GBFT Inc. is going to be there with its top shareholders and inventors to answer questions. It's safe to say that GBFT Inc. has lost all public support." I'd say the same thing. The UN is a branch of the world government. It's where all the leaders of nations gather to discuss important topics.
The world government doesn't have a defined leader and is run by 10 officials and their workers elected by votes worldwide. The world government is the top power because it runs most of the infrastructure and development. As well as armed forces, each official is from a different country. There are never two officials from the same country. To go along with this, there is a mix. It's not just the richest countries that have officials. It's balanced, 50/50 to be exact. The election is held every 5 years, and the possible countries are selected by the economic income in the last five years. The highest 5 and lowest 5 countries have to put potential officials forward, and then the world votes.
While not a perfect system, it allows for the continued existence of nations making their own decisions and the UN having the same everyday power it have. The world government rarely uses its overturning power. It's more of a reminder to the rest of the world leaders and the UN that it can intervene when things get too rough, I turn off the T.V. and lay down on the couch. I wouldn't mind a nap, and I'm going to take it. I think I deserve it.
