A few weeks passed with Yuki working hard every day.
He continued running and lifting. He also added pitching against a wall and shadow batting in order to improve his baseball skills. He fielded as well, but with only himself, he couldn't truly practice fielding, so he didn't really worry about it.
However, today, something was different. The usually quiet park was filled with noise.
The three neighborhood bullies Dumb, Dumber and Dumbest were picking on a small boy with pink hair, throwing sand at the little boy.
Yuki hated bullies, which was why he marched over there angrily.
"Hey, leave him alone!" Yuki yells as he gets closer.
Dumb turns around to face Yuki with his usual dumb looking face. "Huh, stay... Ahh, Yuki!!!" His dumb expression morphs into one of fear.
They had tried to bully Yuki aswell, but given that he was an adult in his previous life, Yuki beat the crap out of them. After that day, they didn't dare look Yuki in the face out of fear he'd beat them up again.
"Run away!" Dumb yells and runs away, leaving his two friends behind.
"Don't hurt us, Yuki!!!" The other two finally realized Yuki was there turn and ran after Dumb.
"Those idiots, if I see them again, I'm going to give them a real beating." Yuki promises, looking in the direction they were running.
*Snifff! Sniff!*
Yuki turned to look at the source of the sniffing.
The young boy that was being bullied earlier was on his knees, wiping his tears away.
Yuki looks down at the boy with pity.
Yuki kneels down beside him and starts wiping the sand off of the boys head and clothes.
Yuki's action prompts the young boy to look up at him with a red hue on his cheeks. "Tha...thank you." He thanks Yuki sincerely.
'Why is he blushing?' Yuki thought to himself, confused.
"You're welcome. I'm Yuki. What's your name?" Yuki asks with a kind smile on his face.
"I'm Momoi."
'Momoi, wait, that's a girls name.' Upon his realization, Yuki inspects Momoi closer, and the more he looks, the more he can see that he is actually a she.
"Pl.. please don't stare so much." Momoi says shyly and covers her face with her hands to hide her embarrassment.
"So.. sorry, I thought you were a boy." Yuki admits with a sheepish smile on his face.
Momoi shakes her head while still covering her face. "I'm a girl." She admits.
'So cute.' Yuki can't help but admire how adorable Momoi's actions were.
"Hey, you wanna be friends?" Yuki asks, smiling brightly at her.
Momoi removes her hands from her face and looks up at Yuki. Seeing the sincerity on his face, she gives him a gentle nod.
"Awesome, let's go play." Yuki stretches out his hand offering to help her up.
"Okay." Momoi grabs his hand with a massive smile on her face.
Yuki helps her to her feet and quickly drags her towards his equipment.
"Do you know how to play baseball Momoi-chan? Yuki fielding.
Momoi shakes her head. "I've never played before.
"Alright, I'll teach you the basics."
For the next hour, Yuki taught Momoi the basics of baseball.
"Alright, remember, keep your eye on the ball." Yuki explains to Momoi, who's currently standing in front of Yuki's crudely drawn strike zone.
"Alright, I'm ready." Momoi gets into a flimsy batting stance, which is to be expected since it's her first time playing.
Yuki starts his wind. He lifts his right leg up, cocks back his left hand, then proceeds to slam his right leg back onto the ground with a loud thud, while at the same time rotating his hips and throwing his left hand forward, pitching the best fastball he can produce right middle of the plate all in one fluid motion.
"Kyaaaa!!!" Instead of swinging, Momoi cries and dodges out the way.
She looks back at Yuki, pouting angrily, feeling wronged by how fast Yuki threw the ball.
Yuki realizing that he was a bit mean scratches the back of his head and apologizes. "Sorry, Momoi-chan, I'll throw it slower next time."
While Yuki's fast ball isn't particularly quick, it's still much too fast for another 5 year old.
"Hmmmm...." Momoi pouts still unsatisfied.
"Uhhh... how about I bring you an ice cream tomorrow." Yuki, not knowing the best way to cheer up a child decides to bride her with candy.
Momoi's pout is instantly replaced with a massive smile. "You promise Yuki-Chan?" She asks expectedly.
Yuki nods. "I promise."
"It's a deal." Momoi says before getting into a batting stance once again.
They continued playing until Momoi's mother came to pick her up.
Yuki's days of loneliness were no more. Now, he spent most afternoons with Momoi playing and talking about baseball. Momoi even got her parents to buy him and her a glove so they could play catch. This resulted in Yuki being able to practice his fielding properly, thanks to the glove and Momoi.
Yuki even met Momoi's mom, who looked like an older version of Momoi. Her mom was just as nice as his and would often get them treats as a thanks for Yuki standing up for Momoi.
He also met Momoi's dad, who turned out to be a massive daughter-con. He even threatened to beat Yuki up when he hugged Momoi goodbye one day. Aside from that, her dad was a nice person who often played catch with Yuki.
His days were filled with fun and joy. Sadly, Yuki's good days with Momoi weren't meant to last.
Two years passed. Yuki and Momoi were as close as could be. They were the best of friends and spent every day together. One day, however, she came to the park, her eyes laced with tears, and her usual smile was replaced with a heartbreaking frown.
"Momo-Chan, what's wrong?" Yuki immediately asked, seeing his friend distressed.
*Sniff! Sniff!* "My... my dad got a new job. We're moving in 2 days." Momoi explains, struggling to speak through her constant sniffing.
"Oh." Yuki replies, shocked.
Momoi suddenly wraps her arms around Yuki and cries into his chest. "I don't want to go, Yuki, I don't want to leave you." She said while crying.
Yuki's, unfortunately, helpless in this situation. All he can do is gently rub Momoi's head. "Don't worry, Momo, I promise we'll see each other again. We're best friends, and we always will be." Yuki promises. He knows that might not be true, but he still promised her anyway. He really hated seeing Momo sad. Yuki suddenly has an idea. He releases Momo and hurriedly jogs over to his equipment. He picks up his bat and runs back to Momo. "Here, take this with you. If you continue playing baseball, I know for sure we'll meet again." Yuki says while smiling brightly at her.
"You're... you're giving me your bat." Momoi says, stunned. She knows how much this bat means to Yuki because his mom who gave it to him.
Momoi takes the bat from Yuki and holds it close to his chest. "I'll look after it, I promise Yuki." Momoi promises. "Let's meet again in the future, Yuki." Momoi says with determination in her voice.
"We will. Goodbye, Momo." Yuki hugs her again, saying goodbye to his first true friend.
Momo left after that, waving to Yuki as she did.
He never saw her again after that. And so once again, Yuki continued his lonely days of exercising by himself, still determined as ever to succeed as a baseball player.
