Chapter 6 Bared Fangs

The behemoth glared at me. Looking at me hungrily as it licked its lips. Its body was a mass of rippling muscles, and by the looks of it, it was ready to pounce.

"Go eru-san, woohoo!" I hear Kalis cheer somewhere behind me.

"How exactly do I fight this thing?" I say as I eye my surroundings, trying to find a way out of this mess.

"Why, do as you did I. Stop him in his tracks" he said a matter of factly followed by the sound of him slithering away.

"Ok, ok. You can do this Soros. Just think. How did I stop Kalis" Just as I tried to remember, the feline began to barrel towards me at great speeds.

Jumping to the side, it narrowly misses me.

Flying would've been a great option had I known how to fly. Stupid hand wings.

Turning once again the beast began looking around, probably looking for where I am.

I quickly hid behind a tree, hoping he doesn't find me.

As it sniffed the air, I knew I was done for.

What did I do, hitting my head on the tree and racking my head I still couldn't remember. Suddenly it hit me, literally.

The amulet I was wearing smacked me on the beak as it flew upwards from when I smacked the tree.

The word peace once again chimed in my head. I sort of know what to do now.

Quickly running towards the tree I was hiding was once again the mass of power ready to tear me apart.

I jump out in front of it and scream "PEACE!" as stupid as it sounds it stopped.

But it wasn't looking at me. It looked at something behind me. An apparent smirk on its face.

"Papa?" I faintly hear behind me.

Turning around I see a small boy clutching a stuffed toy. Covered in wounds and dirt, he seemed lost and hurt.

Just as I realized what was gonna happen, I couldn't get between them in time.

The beast jumped at the child, fangs bared and roar unbearable. The child screaming as well, wailing for a papa that is nowhere to be seen. I knew it was too late.

But rather than seeing the boy's blood be shed, a long shape suddenly jumped between them. Kalis!

Kalis appeared just before the beast could bite the child. The child had a chance to get back. But Kalis was not so lucky. As Kalis fell to the floor, arrows flew from somewhere behind the child and struck the beast wounding it. Roaring at the shadows it ran, and so did I.

I ran to my captor's side. Not knowing why.

"What were you thinking?" I ask the snake cut in twain.

"Just repaying an old debt" he feebly coughs out.

"You aren't so bad after all, for a snake" I say to him quietly.

"Oh I'm bad, I just hate seeing the kid get in trouble" he said looking at the shocked child. "Before I go, could you tell me your name"

"Soros, it's Soros" I don't know why, but, I don't want him to die. As I said my name, I felt warmth around me. A glowing light enveloped Kalis before he breathed his last breath.

A human appeared from where the arrows came from, presumably the child's father. Who had taken the child away as quickly as he had arrived.

Weeping on Kalis' corpse I fell asleep from sheer exhaustion and unbeknownst to me, more light had begun flowing onto his body.

----------------------------------------------

Morning light flooded onto my face as I lay on my back looking to the sky. Remembering the night before, I held back tears remembering that I had lost the first "friend" I had in this world.

I still remember his stupid snake face. It's as if I could see him staring back at me just where he died. But a bit more colorful.

"Hey Soros!" my hallucination suddenly chimed cheerfully.

"Ghost!" I scream as I stumble backwards away from the apparition.

"Oh how I remember how we first met a few days ago. What a time" he said blissfully looking at the sky.

"Wait, what do you mean few days?" I ask, bewildered.

"Just as I said. I awoke a few days ago and you were passed out. I carried you someplace else and took care of you. But now that you're awake, where do you want to go?" Kalis said pointing a wing at me.

"When did you have wings?" I ask also pointing woth my wings.

"I didn't. You gave em' to me" he said smiling

"When did I give you wings?" I ask once more.

"When you and that thing around your neck healed me" he said gesturing to my amulet.

"So what you're telling me is, I "healed" you" I said very slowly, absorbing the situation.

"Yes" Kalis said happily.

"You died!" I said confused.

"I don't know about that, all I know is now I'm indebted to you, and will follow you as payment" he said bowing once again like when we first met.

"Well I'm glad you're alive at least. Let's be good friends then" I say as I extend my wing towards him.

"Partners and friends" he said shaking my wing with his.
