Chapter 5 Lonesome road

When I was suddenly thrust into my situation, my first thought that this would be a grand adventure, but after trekking for about half a day, it has been boring.

I've been walking at a steady pace in the same direction and all I keep on seeing is just a bunch of trees. It would be great to meet someone, anyone to at least give me directions at least to what's beyond this forest.

Wait, who would I even talk to, I'm a pigeon. Do all animals have this sense of awareness or can i only talk to pigeons? Can I even talk to humans?

Just as I was contemplating my existence, I trip on something and fall on my beak.

Rubbing the sore protrusion that is my mouth "Would be great if I at least knew how to fly!" I scream at the top of my lungs to the heavens above.

Gosh the clouds do look lovely, big, but lovely.

Suddenly a large black cloud was creeping at the edge of my vision accompanied by a faint hissing.

But by the time I realized it wasn't a cloud, it was too late.

A smooth and warm slithering mass began to coil around me as the head of the snake appeared before me.

"How cute, an eru that couldn't fly. When I first thought of eating you, I was worried you'd fly off to your flock. But it seems to be my lucky day" the snake said opening his maw revealing rows of pearly whit teeth as sharp as daggers.

"PEACE" a voice suddenly chimed in my head.

Closing my eyes, I waited for the first bite. But it never came.

Instead the snake's vise like grip loosened and he let me down. I looked at the snake bewildered and was even more confused when I saw his bowing his head at me.

"Uum... what're you doing?" I ask trying to inch away.

"Why, do yoh wish for me to eat you...my master" he said shooting a sultry look at my direction.

"Uhhh no. Wait, what do you mean master?" I ask even more confused.

"Well, for some reason, I can't seem to eat you, and if I can't eat you, it means your special" he said coiling his body to one spot in front of me.

"What do you mean you can't eat me?" I ask

"Well as much as I want to eat that delicious looking rump, my mouth just won't close with you in it"

"Sooo.... if you won't eat me I guess I'll be going then. See ya... I guess?" I said trying to leave.

Suddenly he was in front of me again.

"Oh you aren't gonna leave that easily, you're gonna help me" he said with a sly grin.

"With what. As you see, I'm a defenseless pigeon" I said gesruring to my tiny frame.

"Oh, my dear dear eru, that is precisely why I need you" he said grabbing me once more and dragging me off.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Are you sure this is gonna work?" I ask wishing I had just been eaten instead.

"Of course. I already caught you once didn't I? Now just stay there and shake that juicy rump" he said slithering into a nearby bush.

Ugh. Why did I have to be caught by such a weird snake.

Waiting around this open thicket , I started to look around. This was my first time actually taking a look at the scenery rather than where I'm going.

The trees were so tall that I don't think even the snake could climb them. Each leaf a rich vibrant green, so full of life, with a bit of brown ones spread here and there falling at nature's pace.

The bushes were the same, full of life and wonder, and one of them with a snake ready to pounce.

Remembering my captor. "What am I waiting for again, and what should I call you, I don't think I can keep calling you snake forever"

Somewhere below a reply came "Well I've never really had a name since names don't come naurally to us. Just... call...me...hmmm....Kalis" he said with a hiss of approval.

"Ok, Kalis" and as I said that the ground suddenly shook as if something massive was coming.

"It's here" I heard Kalis say with a hint of excitement

"What's here?" I ask as suddenly a large shape emerged from the bushes.

The large shape was a behemoth of a cat. It had fangs coming out of its mouth, each one nearly as big as I.

Its claws so big and sharp looking that they could probably put any knife to shame.

Its legs had spikes that looked like long blades that could cut a tree in half.

And its breath, it did not smell of fish.

Seeing this made me shiver in fear. This wasn't Kalis the snake. This was a real predator. An apex predator. The top of the foodchain.

Speaking of Kalis "Kalis, what do I dooo?" I said as every fiber of my body wanted to run away, and my consideration for the annoying sake making me want to stay.

"Why one thing my eru friend. I want you to fight the competition" He said encouragingly.

"And what do i do exactly!?" I ask in annoyance of this snake's exoectations.

"Well I want you to do what you did with me" Kalis said a matter of factly.

"Which was what exactly?" I ask once more.

"Why, let him eat you of course!"
