Chapter 4 Swift as the Wind

As the light died down and the room went back into focus, a small brown disc with a leather cord was shoved onto my chest

"Ummm... What's this?" I ask eyeing the trinket

"Consider it an heirloom. It is a pendant made from a unicorn's horn. Wrought from the fires of hell and the deepest of magics" she said a bit proudly.

"Man, you still sound a bit evil" I said putting the pendant around my neck " And what does this thing do exactly?"

"Oh don't worry, the unicorn was willing, and demons aren't the real threat, angels are" she said matter of factly.

"What do you mean angels are? You know what, just nevermind, just show me how to handle this thing, do I aim it or chant a spell or something. I can't remember my name so I can't probably remember some ancient eldritch spells or hard to pronounc incantations" as i said that a loud crash resonated below us and the room suddenly shook.

"Oh it's easy just think of what you want it to do and it does it. But it only works at close range, and it can't kill, and most importantly it only works when it is to be used by those of pure intentions. Magic of the depths of the earth and of the brightest fae wrought that piece to aid us in our quest in mending the world" she said as the room suddenly shook harder "As for your name, since its a new world, why not a new one? What about Soros. It roughly translates into swift wind in demon tongue. Yeah, that should do it. I dub thee Soros the demon king to come" she said as she drew a strange symbol in he air and fanciful yellow lights emitted from the door behind her.

"Now for your first task Soros, make like your name and be as swift as the wind" she said as she grabbed my entire body and threw me out her window just as the door suddenly erupted in flame behind her.

Jarring as that was I had to gather m bearings. just as she had come into my life she was now gone. I may not have known her name but I shall always remember her.

Without a place to go only one thing felt certain. I must do what I can to save this dying realm, and myself, for it's my problem now, and there was only one place to go, left for some reason. I felt a tug pulling me in that direction. Since I had no idea where to go I might as well follow my gut

And off I set on my journey to become the next demon king.
