Volume 1.13 Ares (2)

The next day had come and for the first time Myrene was able to walk out of the room without any shackles or someone controlling her body. Ares was simply walking ahead of her without saying anything either. There were no signs of Frayah either.

"I forgot to mention this, if you try to look for Frayah and your brother in the mansion. They are no longer here." Ares said.

"What do you mean they are no longer here? Where is my brother?! Where did you bring him?!"

"Become stronger if you want to see him."

This 'become stronger' again…she turned her head away when it seemed Ares didn't want to say anything anymore than that. Myrene knew that Ares would not answer further other than that.

They proceeded to the garden's vast field. And this time, Myrene began a new training regimen by just jogging five laps around the entire field. The laps gradually increased as her body grew accustomed to it. As months passed, Ares, aside from running, gradually increased the amount of training she did in order to improve not just her endurance but also her flexibility and agility.

During the afternoon, Ares made her study about their race. Outside of their world, politics and even manners that were right for a noble. Even if she didn't want to admit it, she still has the blood of the royalty from the demon lord. Ares said that it was necessary for her to learn all these etiquettes.

This made her also more aware as well that escaping in this place would be impossible right now since the place she was in were surrounded with danger everywhere. And Ares was the only person who has the knowledge of her brother's whereabouts. So she couldn't anything but patiently waiting as she accumulated enough strength.

When Myrene had questions, Ares would answer her, without revealing anything specific to her. Her room was also relocated to her old luxurious room. But there was no time for her to really stay on it other than in night, since she was busy running or studying. The secret passageway that they crossed as well, was completely blocked with huge rocks.

Four months had passed and from there, though she was still wary about Ares, his training however, even if it was hard, was already considered more normal than the so-called "training" of Frayah.

Today, Myrene and Ares were studying at the library.

"From what I have told you before, the demon royalty ranks are classified like this.

The demon lord, your father being on the top. The next are the Seven Generals, then the Twelve Descendants, followed by the named children and their mothers. Then the numbers, and the nameless children which is your current status, Milady."

"How does the ranking of names occur?" Myrene asked. She had silently resigned to her fate now with this training. It was not like it did her any harm. In fact, all the things that Ares had done so far was indeed to help her become stronger in the most right way. So, she used every bit of these chances to know everything she could know other than the little knowledge she had in the novel.

"It is done through a test, Milady." Ares answered.

"What kind of test is that?"

"It's a test to determine the strongest. Other than that, I will not be able to disclose anything further." Ares said.

'When he said it like that, he wouldn't budge anymore no matter how many times I probe,'

"Ares," Myrene called once again.

"Yes, Milady."

"Does my brother know all of this before his naming ceremony?" Myrene asked.

"No, Milady." Ares answered truthfully. "Usually we don't reveal the truth about our race, once they come of age. The children who had their first name ceremony, that is when they will receive the truth of our world."

Hearing this, Myrene couldn't help but silently clenched her fist. 'Does it mean, I can't even imagine the pain my brother will be in, if this will be the first time he will hear all of this. With our bloodline, we are never destined to be heroes but to be villains.'

"Why are you telling me all of this?" Myrene asked. "And don't tell me, because it will make me stronger. I already heard that reason many times." There was momentarily silence.

"Milady," Ares closed the book he was holding. "You are quite wise despite your age. The class is over. I will call you for dinner later." He started heading out towards the door.

'As expected, he will not tell me anything more specific.' Myrene glanced down, already used to this.

"Milady, it is our job to see to it that you will become stronger than anyone. You already have a great mind. And being more aware of your reality will help you to reach greater heights."

Myrene raised her head, but Ares had completely left the room after saying those words. 'Reach greater heights? Just what is it they expect me to reach? Is being stronger than anyone really their purpose?'

When Myrene reached her room, she was surprised to see that there was a small box on top of her bed. When she opened it, there were two pairs of white daggers on it. Its handle had white patterns of a dragon.

'What is this?' She narrowed her eyes, as she used appraisal on the blades.

{Blades made of the Core of the White Dragon of the Mist.

It can be enhanced by the level of the magic of the user.}

Myrene then noticed that there was a piece of paper beside the box. She used appraisal once again, and see that there was nothing wrong with it.

"This is a weapon that belonged to your mother before. Happy Birthday, Milady."

The wind blew from her window. Myrene unconsciously reached for the two daggers as she looked closer to it, there was R.W. engraved on it. The initials of her mother's name, Rebecca Windsfield.

'It truly belongs to mother because all of her belongings bear her initials.'

'I tried looking for her stuff in her room and in my brother's room, but none of their things remained.' Myrene gripped the daggers close her heart, her emotions quivering. 'I've completely forgotten that it's my birthday right now. It may be because it will be the first time I will be spending it all alone, like I did in my previous life.' She recalled her previous life once more.

***

"I heard it's your birthday." The attorney that talked to her about her inheritance after her parent's death brought her a cake. But the young Myrene back then didn't say anything and just stared at the attorney.

The attorney's phone suddenly rang. After talking to his phone, he glanced back towards the young Myrene.

"I have a job to tend to. Happy Birthday again." The attorney said as he left Myrene all alone.

Myrene with the single cake in her hands, opened it and placed it on the table. When she saw it, it was her favorite black forest cake.

She lit the candle and started singing for herself.

"Happy Birthday, Myrene. Happy Birthday Myrene. Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday, Myrene."

If one could listen to her song. It was sad and lonely for a child celebrating their birthday.

'Just why are you doing all of this, Ares?' She tightened the hug to her dagger. 'I can't really understand your true intentions, making you more terrifying than Frayah.'

On 5th of October, 206, Myrene celebrated her birthday in silence while hugging the daggers of her mother.
