Chapter 2

Thane stood for a second to think to himself as he started to leave the scene. He couldn't help but wonder what the power of electricity could do. Maybe it could be useful to him in the future but once he realized that the one man that could introduce him to that power was long gone he decided it was a better idea to leave that subject for another day. "I can't believe that girl managed to get away." Curt told himself. He felt almost disrespected by the fact that the ice girl managed to get away from him though he tried his best to hide his distaste from Thane. Even though he was smiling, secretly his heart was full of anger. "Stop smiling, you idiot! This is the third time this week you managed to lose a criminal and it's only Monday!" Brona yelled at Curt. "Calm down Brona. I am sure that they wouldn't have gotten far. Still… make sure to send all the personnel here out to find them. Oh and Curt… Come here." Thane told him after he finished looking at the surrounding area. Curt slowly walked towards Thane as his smile started to turn from a jokeful one to a facial expression full of fear. "Yes sir?" Curt asked Thane in a low toned voice. "One more mess up and you are going to need to find a way to make up for it. Understood?" Thane told him in a somewhat chilling voice.

"Yes sir! I won't make the same mistake again." Curt told Thane as he started to round up personnel to help him search. "Brona!" Thane yelled as Curt left. "Make sure you find them or it will be you two suffering by the end of the week!" Thane started to yell. "Yes Sir!." Brona told him as she started her own search. Nekane stood there secretly watching this whole situation unfold from the rooftop beside the building he got thrown through. "Thank god I can travel using electric currents. I felt like I was going to die after getting hit by that punch." Nekane told himself. Though he could only travel through electrical currents once a week because of the stress that it takes to even pull it off. It was made even worse by the fact that he doesn't know where he would end up because the electric current goes way too fast. Still he was thankful that he had the energy to pull off that escape. Without time to waste though Nekane decided to get up and start moving. The DPHC was searching for him, and him staying near the area he got knocked out sounded like the easiest way for him to get caught. He hurried down the building he managed to land on and started to walk down the stairs in a hurry to get out. "Oh my god what happened out there?" A woman asked as Nekane continued to walk down the stairs. It seemed every time Nekane managed to make it to a new floor a new reaction would end up popping up in Nekane's ear. "No!!!!! My dad lived in that building!!!!" He heard another person yell as he got closer to the floor.

"Daddy isn't that where the Jackson's live?" A little boy asked his father. "Yes son." His dad said as he started to cry. Nekane's walk soon started to turn into a walk as the realization started to fill his ears. "Everyone please walk to your home before anyone else ends up getting injured. If you have any questions please make sure to call the DPHC. As always please remember to stay safe." The woman's voice started to talk on the microphone again as Nekane managed to get out of the building. He was now a wanted man and nothing he could do would ever change that. Nekane soon covered up his head with his hoodie as he tried to find out what he was going to do. Though the only thing that kept coming up his mind was to go home but he just had the feeling that someone would be waiting for him. Still he had no choice but to go because if he didn't then he would be walking around with zero things in a world that needed a lot of money to survive. As Nekane started to walk home though he started to get a strange feeling.

"Who are you?" Nekane heard a female voice say as he felt touched on the shoulder. Nekane jumped out of fear upon feeling that hand touch his shoulder.. He was so stuck in his mind thinking about what he was going to do that everything seemed to be able to scare him at that point. Though when he soon realized who it was that tapped his shoulder his eyes opened up with confusion. "Wha… How did…?" Nekane said as he struggled to find the words. The beautiful woman with the ice powers had somehow managed to find him. Just as he was about to say another word though she pushed him into an alleyway to make sure they didn't get caught "Are you deaf or something? Who are you?" The woman continued to ask as Nekane regrouped himself. "I should be asking the same question. One, how did you find me? I thought you were beaten and caught by the DPHC." Nekane asked as he pushed away her hand. Nekane did everything he could to make sure she could read his body language because he was struggling to understand what situation he managed to put himself in. "My name is Dolores Hennie and I need your help." the woman told Nekane as he continued to push back. "Oh no no nooooo… I don't want anything to do with your whole super powered rise and gain power thing. Don't try to bring me into this." Nekane said as he did everything he could to keep away from her.

Before he could turn away and try to make a break for it though Dolores managed to grab his hand. "Don't try to run away from this like a coward! Besides I can tell that you have your issues with Thane and as you can see right… You are not just going to end up falling back into your day to day life now that everyone believes that you are a murderer." Dolores told Nekane. Nekane soon just threw her hand away in anger. "So you came to make fun of me?" Nekane answered in anger. Everything in his life seemed to be changing on the dime and he was getting frustrated with himself because he was already starting to wish that his normal life wasn't going to leave him. Though he could see himself living his whole life in hiding wishing that he had just followed the rules and not gotten himself in trouble. "Look I can help you through this but we need to work through this together because if we don't then it will end up being bad for the both of us." Dolores continued to try and convince Nekane. "So what? I just barely met you and I don't even know what your plan is or what will happen once I start to listen to you? Do you have anyone you can trust?" Nekane told her. Though Nekane had zero intention to hurt her feelings he couldn't help but think the worst of the situation. "No… I don't have anyone to rely on." Dolores answered him in a sad tone because she knew that alone she would end up being caught by the DPHC.

Soon the rain started to pour more heavily on them as they took a second to realize that they were both helpless. "Hey look I am sorry I didn't mean too…" Nekane started to say with regret. He took a second to look around and compose himself better because he was just going to end up making them both get into a worse situation if he didn't stop acting up. Though as he looked around he started to look at her face in a realization that she struggled to hide her powers because as soon as the rain started to hit her face it would change into ice. Every second it seemed like there was a dance of beauty and shine because Nekane had never seen such a beautiful power before. "Yo… You are not able to hide it…" Nekane said as she started to nod. Soon it all became clear to him. She was found because of the rain and she ended up getting into the fight because she had no option but to fight. So Nekane decided to do something he never thought he would ever do in his life. "Look" Nekane told Dolores as she looked at him in confusion. The whole situation was not making sense to her anymore. As she looked at him more though, her eyes started to open up more. For Nekane had decided to pull down the hoodie he had been wearing this whole time.

As his hoodie started to get pulled down she watched as the rain turned into electricity as it touched the surface of his skin. Though he pulled it back on the instant it came off because he didn't want anyone to notice it. "Look I understand the situation that you are in but I am not the person to help you out of it. In fact I am pretty sure that I will only end up making the situation worse for the both of us." Nekane told her. "That is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard in my life." Dolores told him as he started to turn and walk in the opposite direction. Dolores decided to just leave it because at the end of the day she would only end up making things worse for herself if she continued to ask for his help. As she started to walk towards the street though she realized that she was going to get spotted if she walked out with the clothes that she was wearing at that very moment. She started to look around the alley remembering what Nekane had shown her. She hasn't really had her parents teach her simple things since she was little. Yet it made her mad that she wasn't doing the simplest thing of hiding her powers knowing the situation she was in. Though she was more mad at herself at the fact that she had not managed to at least convince him to help her out even for just a little bit. There was an emptiness filling up her heart at that very moment because she felt like she always ended up losing everyone in the end.

As she started to calm herself down the sounds of the world started to fill in her ears louder than they have ever done before. "You are not the only person who lost everything today…!" Dolores told herself in an angry voice. Dolores could hear the microphone from a distance saying the same trash she had heard for the past 10 years. "Remember to stay in your homes and be safe. The DPHC is doing their best to keep this situation under control, and remember if you ever see these people again make sure to report them back to the DPHC. They are highly dangerous and have killed thousands today." The voice on the microphone continued to say. Dolores at times just wished that she could block out the noise that comes out of that microphone but she knew that her fingers were not going to be enough to block out the noise. She soon managed to find an umbrella lying by a dumpster. As she started to walk towards it she couldn't help but feel like it was abandoned. She couldn't help but feel like it was discarded, but even though it was an object it seemed to bother her. Still there was no time to think to herself because the DPHC were starting to get near her and she didn't want to end up getting captured by them.

You see, Dolores has heard stories about the DPHC and what they do to people once they are caught. Some have said that the DPHC takes the super powered humans to secret locations and runs tests on them in an effort to steal their powers and use them as their own. Others say that they train you to become killers and throw you back out as a DPHC officer to catch others like you, and if you refuse you will be killed and forgotten about. All Dolores knew was that they had taken away something dear to her. They had made feel lonely for all of these years and she had no intention of forgiving them. As she walked out into the streets of the city she started to think back to the days from when she was a kid and how much simpler they were. Then again simpler didn't seem to be better. Thinking about it would make Dolores become more sadden as time passed her by. Like a broken record it seemed like nothing could be recovered. Though the thing that was making her the saddest was the fact that after all of these years she was finally able to talk to someone like her and somehow it was never going to last. The one chance she had to talk, someone that understood her, was gone. Now all she could do was look at the screens all around her. Not one of those faces understood what really happened yet every single one of them said the same story over and over and over again.

"I repeat to everyone in sector 5. If you are walking outside please go straight home now. There has been an attack by two powered humans that has resulted in thousands dying. The suspects are still at large and there is no information on their location at this very moment. I repeat if you are outside in sector 5 go home immediately." The voice on the microphone continued to go on. "It wasn't me…" Dolores whispered under her breath. "I am going to make you pay curt. Pay for everything you have done. Just you wait." Dolores whispered under her breath again. Dolores soon started to think back to earlier that day. You see she was working as a cashier in a video rental store today. The day was normal as it could be. She woke up and made herself some toast and eggs for the morning. "Today's weather is going to be normal in the morning with the sun being out and smiling for us. Though as we start to get to 2pm there will start to be a high chance of rain. 80 percent to be exact. So if you are going to be outside for a very long time make sure that you bring something to cover up. Now moving on to the news." The news anchor said as Dolores ate her eggs. "Man, I forgot to pay the rent today. I hope the landlord doesn't get mad at me again." Dolores told herself as she continued to watch the T.V. At that point Dolores was starting to wish that she had someone that could remind her of things that she would forget.

Everything seemed to be a reminder of everything she had lost and everyday felt like her just wishing that she could have it back. Life had different plans for her though and everyone seemed to be the most unlikeable person in the world making everyday feel worse by the second. More so when the first thing she heard when she walked into work earlier in the day was the same annoying conversation that always ended up repeating itself to her. "Did you hear about the attack that happened the other day? Man, I wish I could just snap my fingers and all super powered humans would disappear." A man said as he walked outside the store. All Dolores could do was think. "If only he knew what the real story was." As she remembered the stories that she was told as a kid. She wished that she could just tell the whole world about what the DPHC was doing but at the same time she knew that no one would believe her. As she started to work that day everything went the same as usual. Helping customers that needed help and making sure she was respectful. "The weather channel was right when they said it was going to rain today. I wish I had ended up listening to them and brought an umbrella Dolores." Her co-worker told her. Dolores looked at her with a smile. "Lucky for me I came prepared with a raincoat." Dolores told her. "Do you want to walk home together today Taylor?" Dolores asked her co-worker again.

Taylor had been her friend for years now. Before meeting Taylor, Dolores had no one to help her. In fact before meeting Taylor Dolores would have been alone and living on the streets because everyone refused to help her. By the age of 10 Dolores had no family to rely on so she was forced to learn how to work in the world by herself. Though the fact that she was a slow learner didn't really end up helping her case much. By the time she was 11 Dolores was living off of leftover sacks from a gas station that didn't want them anymore. Sadly no one wanted to take her in because they didn't believe her story of not having known her parents because the government would have sent her to a new and caring family. Everyone always believed that there was a bad reason for her being alone so whenever she asked for a home and a place to live she would always end up being turned away. There was always the one sentence that would pop up in everyone's mind. "What if she ends up having powers like the rest of those freaks?" Every single time Dolores would hear that the only thing that would pop up in her mind was. "Why would it matter?" She was a helpless and hopeless kid alone on the streets and the only thing they were worried about was their safety. Then again Dolores knew that the news was feeding them the mindset of being cautious of anyone they came into contact with.

Though the news wasn't being fully honest about their information. That was mainly because the DPHC was controlling a good amount of the information that the news would give out. Though Dolores knew that the DPHC didn't deserve the protection that they were given. They had taken everything from her and that man was living peacefully even after he did. The worst part was the fact that he still remembered her face so if he ever saw her for just a second then she would be doomed to being attacked by him. Still after all of the pain that she had suffered a shining light managed to break through. "Are you ok?' A girl's voice told her one rainy day. Dolores was hiding inside of a box to keep herself from getting wet yet somehow someone had managed to find her. Taylor, a woman living by herself, managed to take her in and raise her as her own. Taylor became her best friend. The person who saved her from all the pain in the world. Which leads us back to the present. "Thanks for agreeing to walk home with me Taylor." Dolores said with a smile. "No problem Dolores. You would do the same for me." Taylor told her in a cheerful tone. Though as the rain fell down that very day Dolores had a feeling that something bad was going to happen. Though she just thought that it was the habits from her childhood coming back to haunt her. "It feels like it was just yesterday that I found you and took you in. Now we are walking side by side as friends and it feels like I found someone I can rely on all the time you know. I am beyond glad to have found you that day Dolores." Taylor told her in almost a regretful tone. "Taylor, is something wrong?" Dolores asked as she started to become concerned.

"Um… Dolores." Taylor said in a voice that would haunt her for the whole day. "I'm sorry." Taylor said as she started to break into tears. Dolores stood there in shock because before she could start to understand the situation there was a flash of red light. "Taylor?" Dolores would say as she saw a hand go through the hurt of the woman her called best friend. "Hello little girl, we finally meet again." Curt said as he appeared before the dead body of Taylor. That man had taken everything away from Dolores and that was the last straw. Dolores was never going to forgive him. He was not going to make it out of the situation alive. Though as Dolores finished recalling her memory she had managed to make a huge mistake because when she got stuck in her mind she had managed to walk into one of the DPHC officers. Too injured to fight and stuck with the questions of why Taylor had to die the way she did Dolores knew that she had no choice but to try and run away. The injuries were too great though and no matter how much she tried the officer seemed to continue to gain on her. All that went through the mind of Dolores was that she couldn't go out that way. She wasn't going to die until she made Curt pay. Until she figured out why Taylor died. When that took away… her parents and left her alone in this cruel world. As the DPHC officer gained on her though something happened that she thought would never happen. "Electric Shock." Nekane said as he knocked out the officer. I thought you left…" Dolores said in a sad tone. "Sorry but I just couldn't leave you alone to fend for yourself" Nekane said in a regretful tone. "So how are we going to survive?" Nekane soon asked Dolores as he reached out his hand to help her up. "By working together." Dolores answered him with a determined voice.
