CHAPTER ONE

The alarm rung loudly annoying her to the core.

Who ever invented the noisy things needed to be arrested. She turned it off and lazily sat up. She felt tired and disoriented. Why exactly had she set the alarm?

Unable to process anything she decided she was going to sleep for a few more minutes. Hopefully her mind would be refreshed and she could finally remember why she set the alarm.

She lay back down and covered her head with a blanket. As soon as she begun to drift off to a peaceful sleep , the blanket was yanked back and her body was exposed to the cold morning air, making goosebumps appear all over her body. She peeked at the offender.

Her mother stood with her arms crossed. Her blonde hair in a messy bun, an apron around her blue chore dress. Brown eyes playfully glaring at Silvermist.

How Liliana Meyers managed to look this well rested and energetic at 6 in the morning would forever remain a mystery to her.

" You are supposed to be up young lady"

" But mum" Silvermist whinned. " why?"

" Because you have school today" she replied as she made her way to the window drawing the curtains and letting the offending sun rays in. Clearly her mother was bent on destroying any traces of Silvermist's sleep . " You get up and get ready if you aren't up in ten minutes am coming back here with a jug of ice cold water. we both know am not kidding " her mother then left to clean the house and get everything ready for breakfast. A house wife's job was never done.

Silvermist was no stranger to the ice cold jug of water. She wasn't looking forward to her mother following through with the threat, so she sat upright in her bed.

School. Silvermist thought with a frown. What School? As far as she was concerned she didn't go to school.

She shot out of the bed when she remembered the conversation she had with her father yesterday.

She groaned and then stretched, the lack of enough sleep made her moody.

However that turned into worry when she remembered that she was going to go to school for the first time in her life.

She was 16 and had no idea how Highschool worked. Everything she knew she had been taught by her parents. They took the trust no one quite seriously.

To say she was scared would be an understatement. She had tried to argue with her father but it was of no use. He couldn't continue teaching her since his work was demanding a lot from him. In the end he had decided she needed to go to school. That way she'd learn from professionals and hopefully make some friends.

So here she was cleaning herself up and getting ready for school. She watched herself in the mirror as she brushed her brown hair after a quick shower. Her blue

eyes following each stroke carefully.

She was beautiful, well her mother and father had told her that much. She hadn't been told by anybody else, After all she did live life running from everyone. She didn't even know what it felt like to be called cute by a boy. Judging from the squeals of female actors when they were told, she guessed it felt nice.

The trust no one thing was hindering a lot of things for her. Her parents even had to cut off all contact with their families. She hadn't heard about any relative and hadn't met any. Her parents were all she needed, but for how long could she have them?

When she was done she grabbed a quick breakfast before kissing her parents good bye.

As she approached the gates of the Highschool, she couldn't help but wish she could run for the hills screaming loudly.

Everything looked foreign and new to her. It didn't help matters that her peers were giving her the all too familiar new girl stare she had seen on one of the high school teen series she had watched on TV.

She covered her hair and part of her face with the white hoodie. Hopefully she could reduce the staring.

As she made her way to the school secretary for her schedule, she couldn't shake off the feeling of being watched and it wasn't the new girl stare she had gotten earlier. It felt like something scary and hair raising. She took a deep breath and entered the office. She wasn't going to let paranoia get the best of her.

She grabbed her schedule and headed to her first class. Thank heavens she had made it in time to sit where no one would notice her. A couple of guys, however had stared at her the entire lesson making it very awkward for her.

The mathematics session ended quickly and she found herself following students headed to the laboratories for her next lesson. She watched as students paired off with their friends when they arrived. Holding her book tightly she made her way to the empty station near the glass windows at the back. The windows over looked the large school ground.

The lawn wasn't well taken care of, it had overgrown yellow grass here and there. She watched an old grounds keeper pick up litter left behind by careless students. No wonder he couldn't maintain the place, he spent the entire time cleaning up students.

A pretty blonde woman wearing a lab coat walked into the class and started teaching grabbing Silvermist's attention. A few minutes later there was a knock and she went out when she came back she had a polite smile on her face.

" Maria Meyers" she called out.

" Yes " Silvermist answered.

The teacher turned her eyes to where the voice had come from.

" Your uncle is here to pick you up"

Silvermist was confused " Uncle? I don't have an Uncle" well not any that she was aware of.

Girls in class giggled like she had said something stupid. The boys just looked at her like she was crazy.

Ignoring them she stood up and backed away from her station. Instincts telling her to back away.

" You are wasting time child" A bulky muscled man said when he made his way into the classroom. He was bald with a large shaggy red beard. The left side of his face had a scar that run from his eyebrow to his eye. His eyes looked glassy and unusual. He wore clothes she had never seen before ,some sort of shirt and trousers with short male ankle boots. Around his waist was a scabbard.

"You are not my uncle" She whispered her voice shaking with fear.

" We are running out of time" the man stated as he started making his way towards Silvermist.

" You are not my Uncle" She screamed. This time around her voice had grown a little bit steady. However, as soon as she screamed that the glass windows shattered and the fragments were suspended in the air. When she gasped they fell to the floor.

That's when the chaos begun.

Students were screaming as they tried to avoid getting hurt by the many falling glass fragments. Their teacher was trying to call the police, sensing that things weren't as they seemed. The man, surprisingly, was still making his way towards Silvermist. The tiny glass fragments that never seemed to stop falling only bounced off his skin. If they pierced his dark tanned skin he didn't flinch.

She didn't think twice when she jumped out of the room through the window. Right now the height didn't matter. Her only thought was to escape the scary man.

As she landed on the ground, she felt the stinging of the glass laying on the ground. She didn't bother to check if she was bleeding when she took off.

She stood to catch her breath when she saw familiar neighborhood.

She looked at her hands and they were normal making her question if she had even hurt herself just a few minutes ago.

She did not dwell on that for long. She had more pressing matters to deal with than mysteriously healed cuts. Glancing behind her to make sure she wasn't being followed by the creepy man, she continued with a quick jog towards her house. When she arrived at the front door she found it ajar. She gulped when she sensed something wasn't right.

Taking a deep breath she entered her house.
