I creep up to the edge of the forest as I see the mages gowned in their red cloaks. Due to my high rank, being this close, practically yards away, can't be sensed. I hold out my hands as I inwardly comment, 'Hey Sky, your about to see a little bit of the power I used to kill Mayonaka.'
I can practically feel Sky's excitement as she hurriedly yells, "Yes! I love watching you do amazing things! Please!"
I have to resist laughing at her enthusiasm as I hold out my hands, 'Alright! Alright! Absolute Shadow!'
The shadows around me begin to waver as the forest seemingly comes to laugh, grabbing everyone's attention. Shadows begin to fold and weave before me as if an art is being formed, screams escape from the mages as the shadows grow in a frenzy, creating a massive wall surrounding them in moments, only 3 exits now seeable. 1, straight through the slaughter of demons and the other 2 being at their sides.
But, finally, a voice shouts out from the crowd of screams, "Where's the commander?!"
Everyone begins to look around with panic, having never seen such a 'spell' before. One of the mages to the far left looks around before yelling, "Screw this!"
He bolts towards the doorway, leaving his allies to struggle with the summoning circle. His partner reaches out for him as he yells, "Stop!"
Suddenly, the man stops before slowly looking back, his voice barely hovering above a whisper as desperation floats in his eyes, "Help me…"
Before a breath can escape anyone's throat, his body is ripped in half as a monstrous streak escapes the forest. Everyone looks at the pathway bewildered, mortified, scared, anything within the feeling spectrum was felt at this moment as they gazed at the horror in front of them.
A 10 meter alpha pillar, purple, black, and white in color. It stares at them with its big, globular eyes, as if gazing at weak prey. The mages stop their changing in shock. They had continued chanting as they were commanded to, but now their instincts have begun to kick in, telling them one thing. Survive.
The mages panic as they begin to run, running far away from the nightmares beginning to surround them. First, those soldiers, then, that giant insect, and now, the one before them, leaving them with only 1 exit. The right.
At first, it's one mage, bolting for the exit. But as he grows closer, more begin to join him, a spring for their lives. I smile evilly from the shadows as I jump forward, standing in the exit way. Everyone stops, except for one person, who hurriedly murmurs as he casts a spell. The winds begins to stir in his hand before launching at me, taking the form of a few blades.
But I simply stand there as each one soars through the air, reaching me within seconds. But as the blades hit my skin, they simply dissipate, as if they couldn't cut a regular person in to pieces. The mages gaze at me in shock as I brush off the attack, as if it was nothing.
Fear overwhelms them as they have nowhere to run, having had all their pathways blocked off. One of them gets on the ground as he asks with a voice full of desperation, "Please…spare me."
I stare him dead in the eyes as I ask, "What do you have to offer?"
He gazes up at me, his eyes showing that his hopes are rising, but I stop them dead, "Power, none. Services, none. Usefulness, none. Begging for your life won't be useful as it won't get you anything."
His eyes dim as a look of sorrow appears on his face, but I quickly add, "However, my alpha pillar can be a bit….blind sometimes. So you can try getting past him as I won't let any get past me."
Everyone turns around to gaze at the large 30 foot insect. This thing has mercilessly massacred a man with ease, they can't even imagine getting past it.
But slowly, someone begins to approach me when suddenly, a voice breaks out, "We're out! Prepare to run!"
Everyone looks over at the Igris guards as they realize, as they were taking their time, the Igris guards were under tremendous stress. They were using every last drop of mana to keep these barriers up and it's a miracle they are even standing due to mana fatigue.
Moments later, one collapses to the ground, his barrier falling as the fighting on the other side continues. Slowly, the other side begins to flood inward as more earthen walls fall, like a river and a dam. And as the other side is revealed, the true horror of what has been happening appears before everyone's eyes. The demons that took such effort to summon were butchered and bloodied, their corpses lying all across the ground like fertilizer, drenching the dirt black in their abyss like blood.
And the true demon stands above them, her white gaze locking onto the new targets as she chops the last wave of demons down, like wheat.
Everyone freezes for just a moment before sprinting in both directions, heading towards the closest exits.
As I see the wave of people, I sigh before lightly jumping upward, soaring into the air as I close my mouth, 'Shadow Breath!' I feel a heat enter my throat as I look down at the opening, the first set of people just reaching it. I squeeze the air from my lungs as a stream of black flames flies towards the doorway, blocking it off entirely.
But the people don't care as they continue to run, flaying through it without any other worry except escaping. Moments later, they are engulfed in flames as they fall to the ground. But they're quickly forgotten in the frenzy of the running people, who do the exact same thing as their predecessors, burning to a crisp.
I shake my head as I tell Sky, 'This is like sheep running to the slaughter…'
[Sorry there was no chapter yesterday, I got stuck in the anime binging loop.] Thanks for reading!
