After waiting a few hours, I hear a knock at the door. I get up with a bit of resistance, the couch calling for me. I open the door to see a black tailed woman in business attire. A button up, tie, black suit, and black skirt that ends just above the knees.
I smile as I step to the side, letting Sam enter. 'Even after 5 years, she hasn't changed much.' I think as I look her up and down.
She stares at me coldly but I can tell it's unintentionally as she usually has a stronger demeanor around her when she means it. I sit down on the couch as Winter leans on me, her tail wrapping around my waist as she does.
'Why is she so clingy today?' I ask myself as I feel her cling to my side, but I put it off into the pile of procrastination and focus on the current matter.
"It's nice to see you again." I say as I look at Winter's parents who are sitting together on the loveseat in front of us. Winter's father nods in agreement, "It is indeed, how have you been?"
We do some small talk back and forth as Sam and Jack silently listen, Winter adding her input from time to time. After a few minutes, Sam asks, "Why are you here since I doubt you came to just visit."
I nod, as I nonchalantly say, "We fought against the monarchy of Restard. As you know, I own the cube and there are some functions you didn't know of."
She sits there silently while her husband looks at us with a face of disbelief. "Treason?!"
Winter nods her head, agreeing with what he said. He sits there in awe, unable to believe it. "How are you able to stay so calm about this?!" He asks as he stares at us.
Winter glances at me as she answers, "I have faith in Kurayami, he has protected me so far."
He sighs as he shakes his head. He goes to speak again when he is suddenly interrupted by Sam.
"What is your plan?" She has stayed silent this entire time and listened so I assumed she was going to ask this. My face becomes serious as I answer, "I told you the cube has many abilities you didn't know about, one of these is utilizing an electromagnetic field to float."
She nods silently, knowing that this could be possible as the cube was meant as an all survival tool, a seed for the human race to begin anew.
"Well I flew us to the demi-human kingdom, they are on peaceful terms with Restard but since I can change my form, I will be fine. Winter can change her hair color which isn't very common in this world so it is also good. Jack, I'm gonna have to think of a way for you to disguise yourself.....wait." I suddenly remember something and look inside my game inventory.
'The only item I have that is mythical rarity. The twin parasites.' I think as I turn to an empty spot in the room. Suddenly, a beat up container falls on the ground with a *Boom!*, causing everyone to jump. They look at it oddly as Winter asks, "What is it?"
And Winter's father quickly adds in shock, "And where did it come from?!"
I turn to look at everyone, "I found this container just outside the cube, and this is moments before we found the cube itself."
Everyone listens silently, like students listening to a teacher's class passing lecture.
"Sam, this may of been before your time but how did you guys get your power originally?" I ask her with my serious face.
She thinks for a moment before answering, "They inserted parasites into the necks of people. It was quite horrifying, why?"
I look at the container, then back at her as I say, "Because there are 2 in here. And they are very much alive."
Everyone freezes, even Winter, as what I said just sinks in. Silence hangs in the air as Sam stares at me with shock on her face, a very rare appearance. After about half a minute, the purple piece of jello on my head mews as he dreams away.
This causes Sam to jump up, "Impossible!"
I look at her with a deadpan face, "Wanna see? I haven't opened the container myself but I can."
She stares at me as she looks me over, as if trying to inspect me. Eventually she sighs as she sits down, "I have been shocked a hundred times over since you entered, why am I still surprised."
Jack's eyes go wide as he begins to piece things together. I nod at him as I explain, "I can give you one of these, but I don't know what the side effects will be except that the two in here have a psychic link. These things from my assumptions have mutated which is why I can't pinpoint the side effects."
Jack sits there with a look of shock as he understands what I mean. I quickly add, "But the choice is up to you."
Jack thinks for a moment, knowing the weight of this decision. After about 5 minutes of silence, he nods, "I'll do it. I have my faith in you."
I stare at him as shock numbs my mind, 'Did he just say he will do it because he has faith in me?! What does having faith in me have anything to do with inserting a foreign body in your system?!'
I look at him as I ask sternly, "You do understand that this could potentially kill you? And this is only to change your appearance-"
"I know." He responds as his face turns resolute. "I am going to do it."
I look over at Sam, "What was the survival rate of the regular parasites?"
Sam pauses for a moment before answering, "They were fairly high actually, the success rate being 70-80 percent."
I sigh as that eases my worries slightly, only slightly because these things have mutated and could instantly kill a person for all I know."
I walk over to the cracked glass panel and look over the options, finding the one I saw years ago.
"Unlock."
A hiss could be heard as the top front of the box shifted downward, revealing metallic arms with needles. The arms have a container on the opposite end of the needle, clearly made to hold something. Clanking of machinery can be heard as a silver, human-shaped platform extends from the machine, straps hanging loosely on it.
But the most eye catching thing is a see through container filled with a yellow liquid, resting inside are two different carapace covered insects.
[My friend is currently drawing up a cover for this novel! Time to update it! And a loveseat is a two cushion couch.] Thanks For Reading!
