Pin sat up calmly on the grass looking around at the burnt ash around him, his body felt a little sore but that could have been from the explosion, it's been a while since he used all his power in one place. The only problem was how long it would be before someone noticed their presence.
He noticed he could gulp or sigh properly as the fire burnt the inside of his esophagus. He didn't overthink it. His body had taken enough damage for today he wasn't going to risk doing it again. Instead, he focused on his other abilities and what they could do to help out. His powers were always useful in fights and this is definitely one hell of a fight he'll get to witness.
Not being able to talk he continued as the heat of the sun blared down on him from above as he walked through the destruction he caused so the mutated beings wouldn't suffer as well. His mind wandered back to how exactly he got himself into this predicament. Pin thought over everything he knew in order to remember something else that might come in handy.
Pin wanted to shout for Rania, but he was unable to as looked down below him at the large black creature laying half-burned in front of him. Pin sighed heavily knowing that there were no more people who needed to know where he is right now so he couldn't tell anyone where he is and even if he did they probably wouldn't believe him anyway.
'I can't cast magic like this…' He thought.
A trail of black feathers on the ground had him nervous as he followed the trail to a pile of bodies. He tried not to look at the charred flesh or eyes of the dead people as they lay still in the ashes.
"Idiot!" A voice shouted.
He gawked up to find Rania in the tree above angrily glaring down at him with her wings spread wide open. She had been perched in that tree this whole time waiting for him. Her eyes were narrowed dangerously and her expression was filled with anger. Pin gulped as she landed on the ground, he hadn't meant to leave her in charge and now here he was getting scolded.
"Where were you?!" She yelled.
Pin tried everything he could by signaling his hands he couldn't talk getting increasingly frustrated as she kept asking questions instead of listening. He had never felt this helpless in his entire life, the way his throat seemed to close up every time she talked made it worse than usual. He just wanted to go home!
"You really can't talk can you?" Rania asked.
His throat was charred she could view flesh hanging off his neck like some kind of sick Halloween mask. His tongue felt thick in his mouth as he tried swallowing the burning sensation that filled his mouth. Pin didn't respond and instead glared at her hoping she would listen to him.
Rania looked surprised before realization crossed her face.
"True Healing!" She whispered.
[-400 Spirit.]
[ Spirit Remaining 2600/3000]
She closed her eyes concentrating on repairing Pin's throat. He didn't notice but her fingers brushed lightly against his skin leaving goosebumps as they moved along his jawline. Pin felt shivers running up his spine. After an excruciating five seconds, Rania removed her hand. Her eyes opened slowly to meet Pin's as she nodded.
"Thank…you…" Pin noted.
"Look I wanna say sorry for before…I didn't realize how much you really changed and you aren't that hero before," Rania said sincerely looking apologetic.
"The person who is gathering these soldiers really has no regard for human life yet they want it for themselves…I can't let this person have their way, Rania," Pin explained.
Her eyes sparkled hearing him speak for the first time since he started working together she looked genuinely happy. Pin found himself wanting to make sure that smile stayed for as long as possible.
Noticing the glint in her fairy-like wings he was stunned at the sudden change. Before it was as if they weren't glowing as brightly as usual and he wondered why he didn't see the wings before now. Rania's wings were beautiful and colorful, he could barely understand how such beauty came from someone like her.
"You have wings?" He noted.
"A girl is allowed to dream!" Rania yelled.
He started to laugh at Rania's comment, but the sound died in his throat as the reality of their situation set in again. They were fighting against creatures they don't even understand. And it seemed like they are going to lose. They needed a miracle.
"What do we do?" He questioned.
"I am not sure myself…I was stuck in a maze last night and fought some chimera-based human thingy that nearly did me in also…Pin...," She explained.
"Hmmm…" Pin responded.
They paused for a moment, neither sure of how to proceed. It didn't seem like this guy, whoever he was was very organized and planned everything in advance. They need to figure out what they are working toward and then make sure they work for the best outcome. He couldn't see the future because his mind was blocked.
"Did you even enjoy being immortal?" She questioned.
"Immortal?" He thought.
"Being able to live forever and die whenever you want and be able to do anything?" She asked.
"You wouldn't know what to do with yourself," Pin shrugged.
He started to walk off trying to find a solution before realizing that the only way he would survive was to defeat this mysterious human thing, who obviously was not a normal human, whatever that means. Rania flew after him with surprising speed considering Pin could feel the energy radiating off her like the sun itself. She grabbed onto his arm and stopped him.
"We need a plan as we can't just keep walking into these traps!" She shouted.
"I know…" Pin replied.
The chanting from last night could be heard again They glanced up to where it seemed to emanate from, a huge circle of rocks surrounding a small clearing on top. Pin took note of the rock formation before turning away. His curiosity peaked, but he knew he wouldn't be able to explore.
'How do we get out?' Pin thought.
Mantras of the same chorus ran over and over till they got louder, making Pin's head pound with its intensity. Rania looked alarmed by how loud the chant is. Pin shook his head. They would have to wait until it died down before trying something, otherwise, he would be stuck here all day and possibly longer.
"This chant is from our world Rania," He stated.
"I couldn't tell…it's so blurred to me," Rania stated.
Pin sighed and put both hands to his temples massaging them gently. The chant was still echoing throughout his head. How long will it last? Suddenly, there was a bright light behind them. In the middle of the rock formations, a large circle appeared in the shape of a triangle.
"So the visitors have finally made it!" The voice echoed.
A man in long robes stepped through the opening into the sunlight. His hair was slicked back and his face was hidden beneath a mask that seemed to glow with an eerie orange glow. There was another man next to him dressed in all white.
The mutated humans crawled behind them chattering amongst themselves in excitement. The other man's cloak was pulled tightly around him shielding any part of his body. The first man stepped closer eyeing Rania and Pin warily.
"Who sent you? I don't recognize you either…" The man mused.
"That is because I am the one who will end you," Pin smirked.
"Sir, I think he is the intruder whose immortality was taken by your fool," The man laughed.
"You are merely human now and barely worth my time," He grinned.
Pin could feel the heat of anger rising in his chest as he clenched his fists. His heart began to throb painfully and he gritted his teeth. He hated when people mocked him about this especially those who hurt others around him, he didn't ever want anyone else's pain. Rania gripped his shoulder to calm him down, which helped a little, but he still held his temper tightly.
"Death won't come quick enough," He snarled.
"And I will kill you myself," The man sneered.
"Wait!" Someone cried.
A woman came forward running towards the two men. She looked older with her hair pulled high over her forehead and tied up into a bun.
"My lord! You promised me that we would win the battle without casualties! We cannot let these beasts take over!" The women pleaded desperately.
The morphed humans crowded around Pin and Rania waiting to see what would happen as she spoke. Pin couldn't stand there anymore; he had to get the hell away from this place or he would go insane! He turned quickly heading back towards his group. But it was too late; he was already surrounded.
He tried desperately to break free but it seemed futile; there was nowhere to run! Pin let out an enraged shout and swung his fist as hard as he could. As soon as he hit something the impact was almost as strong as getting punched in the gut. He groaned in pain but forced himself to stand tall as best as he could despite feeling dizzy. That bastard threw a punch at him.
"See, a lousy human!" The man laughed.
