Second Chance

As the moonlight shone on his back, David walked back home.

He stayed silent, quietly navigating alleyways and continued walking back towards his house, completely silent.

He was now on one of the main roads which cut through a large part of the tribe's camp.

Around him were a large number of huts and temporary houses, built not for longevity but for convenience.

His hands that were at his sides, swung a bit less far, coming to a stop as he saw an argument in the distance.

David attempted to stay quiet as he walked towards the commotion, not seeing any alleyways which he could use to avoid the commotion nearby.

There were two men, both of them shouting at eachother. One of their faces was red, his fists clenched with a strange look in his eyes.

David, seeming unbothered simply walked closer, his hands remaining near the robes he wore on his legs rather than freely swinging as they did before.

The screams of the men soon became clear to him:

"I'm serious! I saw your wife with another man!" A man said, his voice a bit low and sounding a bit pitiful,

"I already told you that my wife isn't a harlot, you buffoon!" The other man said, his voice becoming even louder,

"I saw her with another man! I swear!" The other man said, his voice also becoming a bit louder,

"Oh really?! When?" The man asked sarcastically,

"I saw her with another man at night! They were even holding hands and acting like lovebirds!" The other man said, becoming a bit angry himself,

"Fucker! Don't you have night blindness?!" The man said, spit flying from his mouth,

"Night Blindness?!" David thought, suddenly stopping in his tracks,

"You can doubt my honesty, but not my sight you fucker!" The other man said, even angrier than before, his face red,

"What the hell is wrong with people in this world?" David thought, unable to process this man's words,

"Yeah! I can doubt your honesty! Didn't you have an affair?" The man said,

"My wife knew about it! She didn't mind!" The other man defended himself,

"Didn't mind, huh? Didn't she chase you all over the camp while you were in your underwear?! Aren't you a promiscuous woman" The man said,

"Speaking of promiscuous! What is it with you?! I heard that you only work as a tailor so that you can touch women's breasts while measuring them!" The other man said, little spit droplets flying from his mouth,

"As if! The entire tribe knows that you have a foot fetish! You probably only work as a cobbler so that you can get off to it!"

"That's why your wife has been saying that you rub her feet every night, isn't it?!" The man said, his voice growing even louder,

As David grew closer, he looked at the man's face clearly before remembering:

"Isn't this the tailor who sewed my clothes just last week?!"

"I would never!" The other man defended,

"..."

David simply stood nearby, his face expressionless although he felt aghast. His mouth almost opened wide at the men's shamelessness.

"Who even argues about this stuff at midnight?!" David thought, feeling shocked,

At this point, both the men had red faces, their veins bulging and their fists clenched. They were about to get into a fight.

David who was at the cobblers right, attempted to walk behind the man, not wanting to gather the attention of the two men.

The tailor's eyes suddenly opened wide. He quickly bowed at a perfect 90° angle before saying-

"Apologies, Sir Wei Chang!"

"Sir, huh? I guess this is the privilege of being a gu master's child..."

The cobbler appeared confused as he heard the other man's voice, he quickly looked around, squinting as he turned to his right and bowed.

"Behind you, idiot!"

The cobbler quickly made a turn, facing the direction which was behind him. He was now facing the left of Wei Chang.

"No! To your left!" The tailor said, looking annoyed,

The cobbler quickly turned to his right, facing the tailor once again.

"To your left!" The tailor said, looking even more annoyed,

The cobbler turned towards his left, facing the same direction as he was before.

"You are just....." The tailor almost wanted to sigh, appearing speechless,

"I apologize for our conduct...." The tailor said, appearing almost like an obedient dog,

"It's alright..." Wei Chang said, looking annoyed,

This situation looked extremely weird. An adult bowing to a child and even apologizing to them.

However, when a child had the backing of a genuine gu master, against a mortal, this would only be considered normal.

Although personal strength was valued the most in the Northern Plains, the strength of one's backing was generally almost as important as one's personal strength.

Wei Chang simply walked away, appearing deep in thought.

"A gu master..." Wei Chang thought, a small smile forming on his face as his heart rate increased,

"When I lived in my previous world, I had nothing except my own work and a grand total of three friends that I had made. I both lived and acted as a common man, with absolutely nothing other than his few connections and his office job"

"Suddenly, I was brought into this world and given a brand new opportunity, a world where life isn't dictated by money. A world where any man, no matter who they are can achieve greatness"

"This world...is my second chance."
