Don't get the wrong idea things here, as nothing called dragon slayers existed before this duo showed up.
In fact, almost all cultivators would be unwilling to fight dragons if no benefits were accompanied by such an effort.
And even if benefits were really accompanying such a mission as killing dragons, then they would still refrain from doing it, since it was an extremely risky fight that they will have to take that could lead to their deaths or be heavily injured 9 times out of 10.
And even without the threat of death, the majority of people would still refuse to take action, since time is really fundamental for their growth and they could use it in trying to obtain stronger martial arts/ cultivation techniques or even cultivate to get stronger, instead of chasing dragon's around and beheading them.
Derek seemed to finally realize what his father was referring to when he told him to watch the demonic cultivator closely, his eyes narrowed as Abaddon finally went inside the wooden house.
Undoubtedly, even behind the wooden roof of the plain-looking house, Abaddon was still clearly visible to the duo up in the sky, it's like nothing in existence could ever hope to come between them and their target if they chose to lock into it.
" Father I think I got it. His every movement from the moment he started killing everyone was accompanied by high speed and urgency, it's like he is being chased by something or running out of time, even entering the house was done with his top speed! "
The father showcased a satisfied smile after he heard his son's analysis, he couldn't be bothered to hide the truth anymore and directly explained why did he stop him from attacking earlier.
" Exactly, I didn't stop you because this demonic cultivator can threaten your life, I mainly did it cause his every action was abnormal to what a ruthless demonic cultivator might commit. I don't know the exact reason behind it, but we will soon find out if we keep an eye on him."
His words were clear and easy to understand, unmistakably indicating that they should wait longer before they take action, just to be on the safe side of things.
However, despite all of that, Derek was a heat-blooded guy and he couldn't simply watch the demon who massacred thousands of people without hesitation keep living on the same ground as him, he clenched his fists tightly as he prepared to attack.
" Insolent, don't you have any respect for your father's decisions anymore? Or don't you tell me that you got full of yourself after experiencing the power of your body! "
His words which generated terrifying sound waves sent shivers down Derek's spine, and he unconsciously took two steps back, simultaneously calming himself down and halting the actions he was about to make.
" Humph! I'm doing this for your own good, I understand that you are burning with fury after you saw a lot of people die in front of you without being able to help in any way. But always remember son, the risk of dying always exists, no matter how strong you are."
Derek bowed his head to his father and apologized. After all, he knew that he was stopping him for his own good, even though he felt that killing the evil cultivator below won't take any effort, he still followed his father's instructions and observe him a little more before taking any action.
Seeing his son controlling his anger and suppressing his desire to take justice for the people who died, his father explained a bit more.
" Listen, someone that is as strong as that dark shadow won't be in a hurry to kill everyone, he would even want to fight more people. His movements are full of mystery, I'm not saying that he can injure us, but it's better to be on the safe side."
Derek thought about his father's words for a few minutes as he comprehended the logic behind them, ' There is always a mountain on top of a mountain, and heaven on top of heaven.'
He recalled his father's famous saying whenever they were fighting dragons and people here and there.
He couldn't help but subconsciously take a closer look around the house, just in case someone else stronger than that demon was chasing after him.
Since he couldn't think of any reason why would this guy that was on the 9th layer of the godly realm will act like he was running from something.
Hence, his first thought was that someone except them was coming after him, but more openly and direct. But he soon recalled something as he spoke up.
" Oh, and what about our mission, the deadline is tomorrow since they want the tournament ground to be heavily guarded so no mishaps occur in their yearly recruitment. "
The old man didn't care much about such trivial matters, and if it weren't cause of the heavy payment he will get out of it, he would have never agreed to be a guard on a mere yearly recruitment.
He casually instructed his son to send a letter to their client, explaining that they would be delaying their arrival to one more day after bumping into a problem on their way.
He even asked him to inform them that the payment isn't enough for such a dangerous route that they had to take in order to reach the tournament ground and that his life is more important than some resources.
Derek rolled his eyes at his father's shamelessness, ' What dangerous route, who would actually believe that you would face trouble inside of rainforest? I really feel sorry for the people who hired us.'
Derek was the guy that was upright and just in his every action and word, if it was him leading his father into everything, he would never ask for more payment from his client after he deliberately wasted time doing his own business.
Unfortunately, the old man even though he was righteous and such, he was an old fox who would try to squeeze every bit of benefits out of his missions and clients. And gaining more resources in this mission couldn't be any better to make the time he gonna spend on observing the demonic cultivator worth it.
Inwardly, Ron that was Derek's father wasn't interested in taking justice for the people who died or whatever his son was thinking of. Hell, he didn't even bat an eye when everyone was consecutively dying in front of him.
Moreover, why would he risk going into a fight with a 9th-layer godly realm cultivator over some villages and second-grade clans who happened to bear the wrath of a demonic cultivator.
In his heart, they should just blame their luck and die in peace. Yet, things weren't as simple, and after he saw the sucking technique of the demonic cultivator, his greed kicked in without control and his desire to put his hands on it knew no boundaries.
Matter of fact, he even thanked the thousands of people who died to display the demonic cultivator technique, cause now, he would have a way to increase his lifespan even further.
Yes indeed, Ron was only thinking about the benefits he would gain after he sucks the vitality out of a lot of people with that demonic technique, even his consciousness wasn't disturbed by the thought of killing many people.
Almost everyone would deem him a monster who threw his beliefs and morals to the darkest point of the abyss, but the truth wasn't anything like it.
Since at his age, righteous behavior and mortal meant little to him. He was at an age where death could visit him at any given moment, so the thought of getting more lifespan by just killing mortals or weak cultivators was tempting to no end.
Matter of fact, the main reason why he wanted to keep observing Abaddon wasn't in reality just in case that someone might be chasing him, but mainly to see where he put all his belongings and if he had a hidden cave somewhere where he put everything inside.
Cause till this moment, he didn't catch a glimpse of anything that could be described as a space that could fit such precious demonic techniques. No ring or bag was around the old man that just canceled his black form.
In the middle of a green forest that was full of ancient gigantic trees and plants, a wooden house that was situated right inside of it stood firm in its position.
A dark shadow that soon turned into an old man on the verge of death appeared out of nowhere as he sat cross-legged on top of his bed, sweat drenching his whole body, almost looking like he was running for minutes without pause.
An ugly expression adorned Abaddon's face after he heard the system's prompt that he just got after staying inside the house for just a few seconds, his eyes flashing with a cold light.
" I wonder why would such people be around this remote place. But well, I guess I have no choice huh? I was intending on playing this game safely, but you guys are to be blamed for the actions that I'll have to take from now on! "
The cold robotic voice of the system kept repeating itself from time to time, after all, his host was the most important existence to him and it was his sole job to protect him from the heaven-defying son of fortune, or any kind of death and life situations.
" WARNING! WARNING! Two extremely dangerous auras that aren't the bit weaker than your current self are sending hostile looks toward you."
" Urgent Mission: Survive the threat that is looming around you with the least amount of injuries possible."
" Rewards: Unknown."
