Chapter 2: Uninvited Guests
Yun Feng finally returned to the village with his daughter, Yun Mei, in his arms. He had run for hours, his legs aching and his lungs burning. He was relieved to be back, but also anxious. The village head had gathered everyone together and was speaking urgently.
"Listen, my friends. We cannot stay here any longer. It's not safe. We must move to the town further north," the village head said, his voice trembling.
Yun Feng heart sank but he still nodded, agreeing with the village head. He had seen the monsters of the forest with his own eyes, and he knew that they were a threat to everyone.
without leaving another word he brought Yun Mei and Yun Fei to their house and quickly began to pack everything in silence, his priority now was getting his daughters to safety.
"Dad do we really have to leave home" Yun Fei lightly said as she walked over, there was a look of concern and hesitation on her face, this village was were she had called her home all her life, suddenly leaving despite the present danger they were under felt unreal to her.
Yun Mei also looked at her father, oddly silent she had the same expression on her face.
Yun Feng gently sighed, "I'm afraid we have no choice girls", then he pulled both of them into a hug, "it doesn't matter where we go, home is where we all are together" After saying that he brought out two identical bracelets and wore it on both girls left hands.
"what is this for?" Yun Fei asked carefully caressing the jade like bracelet on her hand, it was green all round and had picture of a fox and a man holding a two babies in it's bossom enclosed inside the bracelet.
"it's something you mother made for you with all her love and heart before you both were born, she made it as a reminder that no matter were you are , you are not alone and always in our heart"
"yes yes that's right, anywhere we go as long as father is there I am happy" Yun Mei's eyes lit up like suns as she said with a smile gradually appearing on her face as she happily fiddled with her own bracelet, fir some reason she felt her heart warm up with joy.
Yun Feng glanced at her and couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as he teased , "just me?, are you forgetting your sister"
Yun Fei also turned her star like eyes in Yun mei's direction
"...hmph as if I care about her!!!" Yun Mei snorted before running to the corner to pack her things, her mood seemingly improved after their exchange.
"this red haired demon sure knows how to keep a grudge haha" Yun Feng luaghingly said to Yun Fei.
Yun Fei nodded subtly before returning to pack her things.
As the day wore on, more and more martial artists began to fly over the village on swords or riding on mystical beasts. Yun Feng watched them go,.
They were all heading towards the deep part of the forest, where the red pillar of light had erupted days ago. , his heart heavy with a sense of foreboding.
Yun Feng began to sense a calling from the depths of the forest. He had an uncontrollable urge to check it out, it was a feeling he hadn't experienced before since he reincarnated into this world, it felt like whatever lied in the heart of the crater where the light erupted was very important or might be even life changing for him.
The sudden appearance of people with abilities to fly, re awakened some of the fantasies he had in his pass life, the desire to be able to gain strength to crush mountains with his bare hands and part seas with a single wave if hus hands or even command legendary monsters that he could only see in the movies back on earth.
But he knew that he couldn't act on those urges. His most important goal right now was to get his daughter (his whole world) safely to the town far away from those monsters of the forest.
"I really should stop thinking of useless things, that old man did say I wasn't suitable to cultivate after all" Yun Feng muttered under his breath.
He pushed the unholy thought la out of his mind and continued to help the other villagers prepare for the journey ahead.
soon everyone was all packed and ready to leave.
Bang!!!
Just as they were about to leave, four flashes of light descended from the sky, a loud sound erupted in the gates of the village causing a cloud of dusts to gather and form a ten foot high dust mushroom.
"what was that?"
"are the monsters here already"
the villagers turned their eyes to the village entrance in panic.
Yun Feng drew the girls closer to him and kept his eyes on cloud of dusts that was slowly desipating.
Soon a group of four powerful looking men wearing the same blue robes came into view. The aura that emanated from them nearly suffocated the villagers.
The four men all had cold impatient looks on their faces, Yun Feng guessed they also had plans to explore the forest in search of fruitful encounters, but judging from how late they were to the party they must have come from somewhere far away and weren't so happy about it.
They looked around at the villagers, their eyes scanning each person as if searching for someone not bothering to hide their disdain and disgusts for the villagers. Their gaze lingered on Yun Feng, and he felt a shiver run down his spine and hus knees nearly bend from the sheer pressure crashing in his shoulders.
"hey you over there, We need a guide to the crater. You look like someone that can be of use so you will do" one of the martial artists, an old man with three wretched scars on his face said, his voice cold and threatening, as if he was a king giving an order to his servants.
The villagers cowered in fear, their eyes wide with terror. Yun Mei clung to Yun Feng's leg, when she heard the scary man, she could see that his eyes were set on her daddy already, tears streaming down her face.
"Don't go, daddy. Please don't go," she cried, looking up at him with pleading eyes.,
"my daddy isn't going anywhere with you people"Yun Fei moved in front him despite the fear in her eyes and the massive pressure bearing on her, she spread her hands standing in the way of the four men and her dad.
"aren't you one feisty chick, I'm afraid the choice is not up to any of you little doll hehe" The four men watched on with amused looks on their faces, they found it cute that little ten year olds were standing against their orders, The old man even had a weird lewd look on the his face as he looked at the two girls .
"enough of that girls" Yun Feng quickly dragged them both behind him seeing the old man's face.
Yun Feng felt his heart racing as he looked at the four men standing in front of him. He knew he had to be careful with his words, or he might end up in trouble. He took a deep breath and replied calmly, "I'm sorry, but I cannot be your guide. I have to take my daughters to safety."
One of the men snorted, "a mortal ant like you dare to refuse us? Do you know who we are? We are from the Blue Phoenix Sect from beyond the mountains. We have the power to make your life miserable....no to even wipe out everyone here"
Yun Feng felt a bead of sweat roll down his forehead. He had heard of the Blue Phoenix Sect before. They were one of the most powerful sects in the region, and their members were known for their arrogance and cruelty, every single member of that sect could obliterate a thousand of him with just a flick of their fingers.
"I understand your situation, but I cannot abandon my family," Yun Feng said firmly, holding Yun Mei and Yun Fei tightly.
The man sneered, "Family? How sentimental. You are nothing but a coward. Fine, if you won't help us willingly, we'll have to use force, maybe if your daughters are gone you would have a change of heart."
The man raised his hand, and a powerful aura surged towards Yun Feng. Yun Feng felt as if he was being crushed by a mountain. He stumbled, but managed to keep his footing, holding onto his daughters tightly.
"Stop!" a voice boomed, interrupting the man's attack.
All eyes turned towards the village entrance, where a group of people had just arrived. They were dressed in black robes, and their leader was an old man with a kind face.
The scared faced old man lowered his hand, and the aura dissipated. "Master Chen," he said, bowing respectfully. "What brings you here?"
Master Chen looked at the man coldly. "You know the rules. No one is allowed to use force in the mortals of this village without my permission. And I certainly did not give you any. you've only been authorized to explore the Blue valley forest nothing more."
The man looked abashed. "I apologize, Master Chen. I was to impatient, We were just trying to persuade him to help us."
Master Chen turned to Yun Feng. "And what about you, young man? Do you have any interest in guiding these young men to the crater?"
Yun Feng hesitated. He knew he couldn't refuse Master Chen, but he also couldn't abandon his daughters.
"I understand your situation," Master Chen said, as if reading Yun Feng's mind. "You are a responsible father. But I have a proposal for you. You guide these young men to the crater, and in return, I will provide you with a safe passage to the Back water town. My disciples will escort you and your daughters and the rest of the villagers personally."
Yun Feng's heart leapt at the offer. A safe passage was exactly what he needed to protect his daughters.
"But Master Chen, what about the monsters of the forest? It's not safe to travel alone, I am nothing but a mortal after all, and all those monsters seemed to be on something and wouldn't even need more than a breath to make short work of me" Yun Feng said.
Master Chen smiled. "Don't worry, those disciples are skilled fighters. They will ensure your safety. And besides, we have received reports that the monsters have retreated deeper into the forest, away from the crater. It should be safe for you to travel."
Yun Feng thought about it for a moment, weighing his options. He knew he didn't have much of a choice. The monsters of the forest were a threat, and he couldn't risk his daughters' lives. But he also didn't want to abandon his duty as a father but the choice wasn't his to make anyways.
"Fine," he said, finally. "I'll guide them to the crater. But I want your word that my daughters will be safe."
Master Chen nodded. "You have my word. My disciples will ensure their safety. And once you guide the young men to the crater, they will leave you alone and you can return to your family ."
Yun Feng nodded, "Deal" feeling a sense of relief wash over him.
The martial artists smirked, pleased with themselves. "Good. you have one minute to get your shit together then Let's go," one of them said, gesturing for Yun Feng to follow like they were speaking to a dog.
Yun Feng nodded before turning to the old village chief and hus wife, "please take care of my daughters, I'll join you at Back Water Town"
"don't worry we will protect them with our very last breath!!" The old couple sincerely said.
Yun Feng nodded before smiling at the teary twins, "you girls better behave before I return, make sure you keep your bracelet on every time girls" he reminded them before hugging them one last time.
Then he carried a bag of holding before leaving his crying children. He knew that he was putting himself in danger, but he couldn't let the girls and villagers suffer because of him.
"Took you long enough, little doll" The scar faced old man said with a cruel smile on his face, "now hurry up and take us there".
Yun Feng silently walked in front of them, he couldn't help but wonder what lay ahead. He had a bad feeling about this, but he pushed the thought out of his mind and focused on the task at hand. He would bring this men to the crater and find a way to get back to his kids alive.
Master Chen looked with pity at the silhouette of Yun Feng and the Blue Phoenix sect members slowly disappearing into the forest and couldn't help but sigh, that was a man who was once out of his reach, a man he greatly respected and admired yet such a man was being toyed around with mere ordinary members of a second rate sect.
Such is life, Master Chen breathe out a sigh before turning around to make arrangements for the villagers, since he promised Yun Feng, a man who once saved his life their safety he would keep his word, chances were that this was the last time he would see that kid alive.
