Chapter 3: Blue Valley Forest of Mysterious Monsters
The Blue Valley forest was full of massive trees that towered into the night sky, but it was eerily calm.
The lush greenery that should have been brimming with life looked dry and barren. There were no clicking insects or singing birds, and the constant scream of agony from prey being devoured by predators was nowhere to be heard. It was as if every creature of the forest had chosen to take a tour somewhere else.
Yun Feng didn't care about the changes in the forest; his current predicament was as tough as it got, and he didn't have the energy to bother about anything else.
He could feel dagger-sharp stares accompanied by ill intent resting on his back, watching his every move as if waiting for him to make a mistake before pouncing on him.
"Where's all this anger coming from? Didn't I just leave my family to venture into the dark forest with you lot?" Yun Feng was irritated inside but didn't dare to stop. He moved slowly and calmly, taking in every tree and rock, verifying that they were safe to pass before taking a step forward.
"Hey, mortal! Why the hell are you moving like a fucking snail?!" one of the Blue Phoenix sect members finally couldn't help but bark loudly at Yun Feng. His words seemed to carry some mighty invisible vibrations that surged forward with great might.
The next thing Yun Feng knew, his lanky body was Yanked off the ground and sent flying into the air like a balloon high on helium gas.
Bam!
Yun Feng's body traveled twenty yards before crashing heavily into a tree and forming a human-sized crater.
"Aaarghhh!"
Yun Feng screamed in agony. His entire body was riddled with gruesome injuries from the impact, and he could hear crackling sounds similar to bones breaking from within him. He could even feel his slightly dislocated jaw dangling up and down, threatening to fall.
"Tian Wu, you rascal! Didn't you hear what master said? We are not allowed to attack any mortal, hehe." Still impaled in the tree, Yun Feng could hear the scar-faced old man admonishing the attacker from just now, but judging from the old punk's tone and laughter, it sounded more like he was praising him, or worse, encouraging his shitty actions.
"I have to get away from these people, or I will never see my kids anymore." Yun Feng's heart was racing and threatening to jump off his chest as he forcefully willed and dragged his body out of the tree, leaving a human-sized hole in it. All the while, panting heavily, trying to catch his breath and trying to reduce the burning pain bursting forth from his chest.
"Sorry for slowing you down, your graces." Yun Feng quickly bent to his knees and pleaded, ignoring all the million stabbing pains assaulting him. As he moved, the sound of broken bones knocking against each other could be heard.
The current Yun Feng looked like nothing more than a bag of bones covered with bloody skin mixed with dirt. The handsome youth that used to turn heads was nowhere to be seen.
"Huh?" Yun Feng's actions surprised the four Blue Phoenix sect members for a moment. They all believed the lanky, frail, and weak-looking Yun Feng would be completely immobile after the prank they played on him.
Yet, despite his entire body being covered with blood and dirt, this mortal was still capable of removing himself from the tree all by himself.
But soon that surprise quickly turned into disdain. "It seems mortals possess surprising qualities about them." The scar-faced old man's wrinkled face broke into a smile of ridicule before stepping forward. He brought out a black-looking bottle and grabbed Yun Feng by the neck before forcing its contents down Yun Feng's throat.
"Gable gable"
Wide-eyed and perplexed at the mans actions, Yun Feng tried to resist at first. However, when the contents of the bottle emptied into his stomach, he felt something miraculous he had never experienced before. At this moment, he couldn't feel much pain in his chest; he could only feel a warm current of energy flowing through his veins, bringing him great relief.
Despite still being covered in injuries, he felt no pain.
"Wh-what did you just give me?" Yun Feng's eyes blinked with surprise as he stared expectantly at the scar-faced old man. His current appearance looked like a child who had just discovered the wonders of candy for the first time.
And in a way it was this same for Yun Feng since this was one of the first time he came into contact with such hideous looking magical liquid from this world, it found it surprising that something that tasted like puke and looked even worse was that effective.
Bang!
What met his enthusiastic interest towards the bottle was a kick to his guts, sending him flying another two yards.
"What it is or isn't has little to do with you, mortal worm! All you need to know is how to get us to the crater before we choose to kill you." The scar-faced old man pressed his tumultuous aura on Yun Feng as he threateningly said.
Yun Feng could feel the weight of the world bearing down on him, and even colder sweat gathered behind his back.
I only asked a simple question old forgey, if you don't want to answer just say no,, what's with all this death threats. Yun feng inwardly shook his head but he didn't dare to show his thoughts on his face as He knew this old man wasn't playing and might kill him for no reason at all. Only by proving useful could he still keep his life from being taken away by these irritated fiends of men.
The next moment, Yun Feng managed to get on his feet before falling on his knees once more in no time and pressed his head firmly on the ground. This impact increased the bruises on his forehead.
"Please let me off your grace, this little one will immediately bring you over to the crater. I know of a shortcut that would reduce the distance we have to cover by at least half!" Yun Feng managed to say with great discomfort. Blood rolled off his forehead and lips as he spoke.
"You idiot! You should have brought us that way in the first place. Better make up for our lost time now, or get it!" The old man snorted before retracting his aura completely.
"Thank you, th-thank you, your grace," Yun Feng thanked quickly before springing up to his feet. The special elixir was still in effect, so he could barely feel any pain despite barely having an uninjured body part. Only his pride hurt badly, but he was helpless to do anything, which mattered little since no one cared about the feelings of the weak in this world. His life was at the mercy of these men's feelings.
All he could do was keep on going, hoping he would be rid of these monsters from the Blue Phoenix sect as soon as possible.
. And kept going he did!
"What special qualities? He's nothing but a dog worm of a man hehe with no choice but to do our every word." One of the four sect members spat at Yun Feng with great disdain.
"I wonder what the powerful master Chen noticed in such a useless and spineless weakling for him to stop our fun," the thinnest Blue Phoenix sect member added. There was a frown on his face as he recalled the memory of them being interrupted from destroying that puny village.
He, for one, enjoyed the feeling of being the strongest of everyone and relished at the sight of mortals being cleaved into two by his sword. Master Chen stopping them from attacking that time caused him to hold a grudge.
"It seems the years have begun to leave their mark on even someone as powerful as Master Chen otherwise why would he make Deities like us act respectful for a mortal ant like . I even hear he would be leaving the Dark Force soon, which is time our sect master would even make a move on him! And with the aid of his mysterious sword, Master Chen is bound to fall. At that time, our sect would become the most powerful sect in the region." Another Blue Phoenix sect member added, A bright smile spread across his face. It was as if he could already envision himself wantonly committing unopposed vile acts.
"Hush! Is Master Chen's and the Sect Head's name allowed or worthy of discussion?" The scar-faced old man coldly shouted at the others. There was a hint of fear in his eyes as he spoke. He clearly knew how terrifying that man was since unlike their sect master he had nothing holding him down or serving as a weakness.
"Apologies, Elder Duanmu," the three Blue Phoenix Sect disciples quickly bowed apologetically.
Despite being berated by the old man, the three others didn't dare retort. Instead, they shut their mouths and stared around apprehensively as if worried that someone else had heard them. Soon, their eyes rested on the back of Yun Feng, and an unmasked killing intent flashed in their eyes.
"Don't worry. this little guy just reminds me of someone amazing who fell from grace back in the day, but judging from how feeble and weak this one is acting I must have judged wrongly that man would not act this sloppy even if he had fallen so low," The Old man looked at Yunfeng with a look of disgust before continuing
"We will get rid of him as soon as he outgrows his usefulness, if his injuries don't kill him first," the old man silently whispered into the ears of the three with a wicked glint, making a slicing-the-throat sign with his neck.
The other three understood, and a bloodthirsty smile appeared on their faces.
At the same time, Yun Feng felt a chill run down his spine. Cold beads of sweat gathered on his forehead.
"You won't kill each other but would kill me, nice nice nice, you guys forced my hand," sighing in his heart, Yun Feng's face warped into an expression he hadn't made for decades. He was no fool despite his cowardly appearance since he stepped into the forest with these four and could perceive that he must have heard something he shouldn't have, which sentenced him to certain death.
Only the dead can keep secrets!
However Yun Feng wasn't all that worried, to him these guys were merely jumping clowns providing with well needed security till he reached the ground of the red light eruption, but now that his 'guards' intended to murder him their deaths was more or less written in stone
Yun Feng eyes flashed a bright light as if coming up with an idea, it was so fast that even the old man who was paying attention didn't notice it, Yun Feng wasn't one to wait around for his death, especially now that he had kids eagerly praying for his arrival.
Since he was going to be killed, he might as well strike first! With that thought, he quickened his pace and rushed forward.
The Blue Phoenix Sect members noticed his increased pace. They thought little of it, after all, no matter how fast a mortal moves, it wouldn't be a tenth of a weak cultivator's speed.
Without making any more noise, they followed Yun Feng, seemingly alert. After all, they were in a wild forest filled with deadly creatures.
if only the old man knew the thoughts that roamed through Yun Feng's mind, he would probably stopped doubting his guess!!
"Is that a Blaze Grass Fruit? How lucky!" On the way, the Blue Phoenix Sect disciples picked different strange fruits and grasses that Yun Feng couldn't identify. But from the look in their eyes as they happily pointed and harvested, he could tell they were good stuff for cultivators.
Gradually, their backpacks were filled to the brim with strange herbs and fruits, all of which Yun Feng was forced to carry despite his injuries.
