The Tournament! (2)

"Rafael and Hugo, step forward" Bei yelled. A boy with a greenish skin and pointy ears and nose stood up and walked forward, right behind him a boy with blond hair and light blue eyes walked.

"It's the prince wanna be" Link thought, looking at the blond boy, he remembered that he was the one that spoke to him at the weapons rack.

"Identify yourselves" Bai spoke, looking at the 2 students standing inside the Rune Zone.

"My name is Rafael" The blond boy spoke with a clear voice.

"My name is Hugo" The green skinned boy said.

"Alright Rafael and Hugo, like i said, you can go all out, no harm will come to your enemy" Bei continued "Good luck to both of you"

Rafael held a sword while Hugo had a spear, they eyed each other for a bit.

Rafael smirked, getting on Hugo's nerves, he ran towards Rafael with the spear behind his back.

Wosh!

When he was 2 feet away from him he spun, swinging his spear with him.

The spear blurred in the air, aimed at Rafael's neck with breath taking speed, the sharp metal tip of the spear was at the perfect distance to slit his throat.

Rafael lifted his sword sending a strike at the coming attack.

Ding!

Both weapons collided with each other, sending sparks flying everywhere.

"Wow" The students watching reacted in excitement, except for one.

"What the hell is this? Are they fighting or putting up a show?" Muttered to himself, he frowned at the exaggerated fight.

Link found a lot of the moves made by the two opponents to be misplaced, he thought most of them were uncalled for and with too many indications. When Rafael was going to slash horizontally, he would make it too obvious that he was going to, and Link found that irritating.

<Calm down, unlike you they probably have never been in a real fight before, just ignore it>

Bai sat there, looking at the fight but his attention was elsewhere. As he was watching he heard someone mumble something, which prompted him to look.

"Interesting, someone has experience in here, but who was it that said that?" Bai frowned, he had exceptional hearing, perks of being a Draconic, but he couldn't pinpoint where the comment came from.

The fight went on for a while until Rafael found an opening and slashed at Hugo's stomach, the sword was inches away from making contact when the white runes around the ring shone, creating a barrier around Hugo which protected him.

"Rafael Wins," Bei announced. The students started clapping, the fight was exciting to them.

Samuel inched closer to Link and whispered "Why did they move like that? Were they pretending?" He asked.

"I don't think so, it's just they are used to sparring with their fancy instructor hired by their families, they know nothing about really going in for the kill" Link Continued "Plus, these two idiots are both magicians but they barely remembered to cast spells, what a joke"

Rafael held his head up high, enjoying the cheers.

"Next, Fei and Tom" Bai yelled.

Fei and Tom looked at each other, they were disappointed, they never thought they would be fighting so soon. After walking into the Ring and introducing themselves, they just stood there.

"Don't hold back, or we won't be friends" Tom said. He was fully aware that Fei was stronger than he was, after all Fei is the son of a veteran adventurer, he learned a lot from his father.

"I won't, you do the same" Fei answered.

They nodded to each other and jumped. Fei held a bow in his hand with a quiver full of arrows on his back, while Tom held a short sword and a shield.

Fei jumped back while Tom jumped forward. Fei nocked an arrow in but did not fire and kept backing away, he knew that if Tom managed to close the gap between them he would be put in a bad spot.

They both moved quickly around the Ring, it was big enough to Hold a truck inside with some extra space after all.

When Link looked at his friends, he was impressed. At their feet a current of wind spun, circling them.

"Air Boost" Link muttered.

Fei was backing away while sending Mana through the ground. Miniature walls grew to block Tom's way, but they ended up being broken easily.

Tom's sword shone with a dim light, it held a destructive power that impressed even Bai.

"These two are not bad, was it one of them that spoke earlier?" Bai thought to himself. To him, it was not the comment that caught his attention, but the timing. Link said those words the moment Rafael and Hugo struck each other.

A red spark shone near Fei's feet, it quickly formed into a ball of flame. As he jumped back again, he kicked it, creating a red blur heading towards his opponent.

Tom lifted his shield, taking the blow head on.

Boom!

Smoke covered the area as Tom was flung out of the smoke, the impact was stronger than he expected, barely managing to get himself back on his feet, his hand was shaking.

Ding!

Suddenly, a Barrier appeared around Tom, an arrow ricocheting off of it.

"Fei Wins" Bai announced right after.

Tom was shocked, he didn't even see where the arrow came from, he smiled though and left, his friend fought him seriously, he was not angry.

"What a boring fight" Someone spoke from the crowd of students, It was Rafael. His comment encouraged others to say the same thing, which this time pissed Link off.

Bai looked at the students and was about to speak, but someone beat him to it.

"How ignorant" Link spoke, he couldn't let him disrespect his friends like that.

"What did you say?" Rafael glared at Link.

"You're a noble aren't you?" Link asked.

"Isn't it obvious?" Rafael said, puffing his chest. He was right, his aura and style screamed nobility.

"So that means the closest thing you got to death is choking on your mother's breast milk isn't it?" Students laughed, some did and others found the comment offensive, obviously they were of nobility as well.

Rafael looked at Link in anger, he spoke "You're exaggerating but you are right, i never experienced life threatening events, that's the job of your kind is it not?" Rafael was pissed off that someone of a lower social standing dared to speak to him that way.

Link had to admit that his comeback was sharp, he smiled and said "Well, this kingdom was built on blood and sweat, you saying something like that only proves how much of a cockroach you are, Does It Not?" Link spoke the last three words slowly.

Rafael was fuming, he was about to say something back but Bai clapped his hands once, the noise was so loud that some covered their ears.

"Enough, This is a military academy, not a kindergarten. If you two have a problem with each other step up to the Ring" Bai said, looking towards the two of them.

Rafael smirked and walked up, he really wanted to put Link in his place. Tom and Fei frowned, they didn't want to put their friend in a situation like that because of them, But it was too late.

Link walked up to the Ring, he stood opposite of Rafael and smiled, taunting him.

"Begin" Bai spoke.

The moment Rafael heard Bei he grabbed his sword tightly and ran towards Link, doing a vertical slash aimed at Link's head.

Link lifted his hand, striking at the direction the sword was coming from.

"Trying to block a sword with that kitchen knife? Is he stupid?" Rafael thought to himself, he was not the only one, so did a bunch of other students.

At the back a beautiful blond girl stood there watching, she looked at Link's Dagger strike with interest.

The sword finally made contact with the Dagger, Rafael smirked, he couldn't wait to see the defeated expression on Link's face.

Cling!

Shards of broken metal flew in all directions, signaling the breaking of a weapon.

Rafael stood there, shocked. He did not understand what just happened. The sturdy sword was broken into tiny pieces, his arm felt numb with barely any feeling.

Link stood there and did not attack, he looked at Rafael with disdain.

"Here's a tip for you, cockroach." Link spoke "choose your enemies wisely".

With the Second Level of The Story of Genes, Link is capable of breaking wood with his bare hands easily, plus adding some Mana into his Dagger, Link managed to break his opponents sword without even the least bit of resistance.

Swinging his Dagger again, the barrier activated and protected Rafael, when suddenly it vibrated, a spiderweb of cracks started forming, sending his opponent into panic.

Rafael and The students watching did not understand what was happening, looking at Bai they found him just standing there, watching with interest.

The cracks started to spread faster, nearly covering the whole barrier.

"Is the instructor not going to stop this?" Rafael started to sweat profusely, he thought to himself "Is he really trying to kill me?"

Fear started seeping into his heart, his legs became shaky and his face paled, he looked like he was about to collapse any moment now.

"That is enough" Bai spoke calmly from the other side. Link pulled his arm back, and looked at Rafael.

"There you go, your first near death experience" Said Link, with his killing intent slowly fading.
