Turned out, the girls were from a small village in a large country called India.
Their village got ransacked by pirates and most were just murdered. Some women were raped and killed, while they kidnapped the healthy young. The kids were taken to be trained but most were just eaten.

And the country of India was ruled by the British empire which was a faraway empire.

Which was why, Rose and the girls were on the first floor- in the living quarters.
They'd made the place a lot cleaner than it used to, and removed almost all the belongings of the pirates to not be reminded of those beasts.
