Chapter 8 Vale

'So this is the city of Vale, it can't really compare to the cities of my past life but its much better than the primitive city of the world I just left'.

After saving the train's crew, they allowed her to hitch a ride to the city. Once they arrived at Vale's train terminal Mordred was once more thanked and given a few thousand lien this world's currency. The white fang she captured was taken in by the city's police for interrogation, she was also asked some questions about what happened before she was let go. 

Now she walked amongst the busy city streets.

'Let's see, so I need to get a scroll which is basically an iphone, find an inn, then do some research about this world, I hope I don't need proper documentation'.

Mordred had already stored away her equipment when no one was looking so that she didn't draw attention, but she did consider that it might be fine since hunters walk around with their weapons everywhere they go.

After looking around and purchasing a scroll she found a cheap inn to stay at. She opened the door to her room and what greeted her was a warm and cozy home. She threw herself onto the soft bed.

"Ahh this bed is amazing!"

As she snuggled into the pillows a thought quickly appeared in her head.

"The bathroom!"

She jumped off the head and ran straight to the bathroom. She looked inside and saw a typical bathroom that you would see at any hotel but for Mordred who spent years in a ruined world where basic plumbing and sewage systems were almost nonexistent, this scene was like a holy grail.

She went to the bath's faucet and turned the handle. Water came rushing out and she slowly reached her hand out and touched the water.

"!!!"

"It's hot water! It's really hot water!"

Memories of having to shower in ice cold water for a limited amount of time or having to wipe herself down with a cloth filled her head.

Thinking of these memories she wasted no time and filled the bath then stripped naked throwing her clothes to the side. She laid down in the bath and felt the warm embrace of the water all over her skin. She closed her eyes, relishing the feeling before opening her eyes and looked at the water she was in.

The bath water was no longer clean but now murky.

"...maybe I should shower first before bathing…"

Embarrassed by how dirty her body was she drained the water and took a shower.

"Ahh that felt amazing!"

She walked out wearing a bathrobe, her long blonde hair loose. She sat down at the edge of the bed. She grabbed her scroll and searched for information about the city. Deciding to familiarize herself with the city's layout and current state to see if its just like her memories and since she plans to stay here for a long time.

'Vale is quite large I guess that should be expected of the capital city of the kingdom that is supposed to hold about a fourth of the human population. The creators went hard on the old European style since there are practically no skyscrapers within the city unlike the city of Mantle in Atlas'. 

'The entertainment industry sucks, where the hell is all the anime!?'

'Beacon Academy, the school that trains huntsmen, the place where the main story starts. I am quite tempted to go there but I won't since it will be nothing but trouble. I don't have any proper documentation, I would have to take a bunch of tests, and I doubt I could adjust back into a school life considering the way I lived the past few years'. 

'Vale has rampant gang violence that the city council covers up so that the population doesn't panic and cause a horde of grimm to attack'.

'Then the kingdom's military. Honestly it's terrible, basically just a militia consisting of hunters and civilians that are called up to serve when needed, no armored vehicles just normal transports and the air force consists of a few bulkheads that are not armed and are just used as troop transport'.

'No wonder the kingdom gets its ass kicked'.

~Growl~

"Guess it's dinner time".

Mordred opened her inventory to grab her stored food but stopped.

"I should eat out, I have a shit ton of money and quite frankly I deserve to spoil myself".

She opened her scroll once again and searched for any nearby restaurants. One caught her eye, an all you can eat restaurant that's about a five minute walk from her inn. She began to drool at the images of the food.

She got out of her bathrobe and changed into her normal attire, black shirt and black pants with boots.

"I should probably shop for clothes when I get the chance".

With those last words she left her room in a hurry towards the restaurant.

"What the hell is up with my appetite!?"

She sat alone at a table covered with bowls and plates, licked clean of the food that was originally on them. Once she started eating she couldn't stop.

'My appetite wasn't this big in my past life and it definitely wasn't when I was in the previous world, if it was I would have starved to death!'

Customers began staring at her wondering where all that food went. Even the chefs were surprised but we're also proud that someone liked their food this much. 

In the end she had to force herself to stop eating, but she still didn't feel full.

'My appetite is going to drive me bankrupt if I'm not careful'.

She reluctantly left the restaurant and walked back to her inn. She arrived back at her room, she took off her boots and snuggled into the bed once more.

"Ahh this bed is heaven…"

"These rewards are quite good, I don't know where the sword is from but it should still be good. I also have five years to prepare, I believe in five years I will be strong enough to take on Cinder and the Wyvern. Actually I could probably kill Cinder now if I get the drop on her but I don't know where she is".

"Though I don't want to do all the heavy lifting, the scale of the attack was big. Hordes of grimm, an army of white fang that somehow got their hands on Atlas mechs, as well as the Atlas fleet and robot army getting hijacked, turning them against the defenders".

"I'll need to gather capable allies and probably make an army to deal with everything".

Mordred stood up on her bed and declared.

"I decided, I shall make a mercenary army so powerful that even Atlas will feel scared to confront me and Ironwood will become even more paranoid than he already is, HAHAHA, I accept!".

Mordred pressed the accept button. The mission's clock began ticking down.
