Chapter 9 Ideas for the Future

Mordred was sitting at her desk, browsing the world's version of the internet. She had been doing research on the world, searching for everything that was unique to this world. She set down her scroll and pulled out a notebook from her inventory, she opened to a blank page and began writing.

'It's been about a month since I arrived in Vale, this place is quite nice, the food is good and the people aren't assholes. This place is really great, you just have to ignore the gang violence that happens in the poorer parts of the city that sometimes find their way here'.

'Other than the situation of the city I have made very interesting discoveries. Dust. Dust is one of the most important minerals mined in all of Remnant. The original show of RWBY never went too deep in the applications of Dust used in the world at least from what I remember but after some searching I have found that the residents of this world rely on Dust way too much'.

'Dust is the primary fuel source of Remnant, it's used to power cities, cars, electronics and used in ammunition. Honestly this reliance is so huge that if Remnant ran out of Dust they would be in a worse situation than if the United States all of a sudden ran out of oil'.

'While Dust is the primary fuel source, Remnant does have other sources that aren't used greatly such as coal, oil, wind and water. I have found no cases of solar or nuclear power being used or even mentioned'.

'Another thing I found is that gunpowder doesn't exist. I mean why would it when people use Dust as a propellant. The thing is that as a propellant in ammunition Dust is inferior to gunpowder. I have tested it. I almost lost my hand because a Dust bullet I made for my pistol went off prematurely but I'm fine, my pistol, not so much'.

'Anyway I went to a weapons craftsman that could be trusted after asking around town and requested for him to make normal Dust bullets for my AK, I had to let him inspect my gun first. It was a bit expensive and the results weren't good. Dust bullets have less power and fly slower than normal gunpowder bullets. They are still good at killing but suck against armored targets. If you want Dust bullets to be stronger than use more Dust or use an artificial variant of Dust that is made by combining different types of Dust together but that option is even more expensive'.

'I could make a business selling gunpowder bullets. I'm sure it would do good since they are cheaper than Dust as well as the fact that in recent times the price of Dust has been on the rise'.

'I would need to do more research on business since I've never managed or started a business before, I should also sell firearms as well. But to do all this I need capital. I need more money, I planned to take jobs as a huntsman but that could be a problem since I have no certification from any academy and I have no Aura, so people would be less likely to hire me'.

'I have tried to unlock my Aura and followed information on the internet to help me but it didn't work. I could try and use the method that was used by Pyrrha to unlock Jaune's Aura but I would need to find someone to do that for me. Couldn't I hire someone to do that? I'll have to explore that idea another time'.

'Well to get more capital I have decided to steal it. How? Vale has lots of gangs that need to be removed and I need money. I'm sure those gangs have plenty of money in their pockets from all their illegal activities. The perfect source of money'.

Mordred finished writing her last thoughts and closed her journal. She stretched her body while sitting in her chair.

"Man, that was a lot of writing, my hand hurts".

She got up from her chair, grabbing her scroll. She pulled up a recent news article.

"My first target, a local gang in the area, the Concrete Kings. I don't know why they use Kings in their name when they are a small gang that gets bullied by larger gangs".

She walked out of her room and wandered the streets, Getting closer to the main base of the Concrete Kings that she managed to find rather easily since there was an online forum that revealed the location of the base. Why haven't the police made any moves? Who knows, probably corruption?

She neared the base, an old factory building that once produced fabrics. Mordred got into an alley, after ensuring no one was nearby or that there were any cameras she pulled out her equipment. She was dressed in an all black shirt and pants with modern tactical gear equipped that was also black. To somewhat hide her identity she used a black cloak she found at a garage sale. All black, very edgy.

She readied her weapon and did one last check of her gear.

"Time to deliver justice"

She activated mana burst and jumped onto the roof of a three story building that overlooked the factory. During her travels when she first arrived in the world she trained in using mana burst. She can control it quite well but not to the point of being as good as the original Mordred.

She studied the outside of the factory, noting every guard and entrance she spotted. The gang base had a considerable lack of guards and defenses making them an easy target.

"Well stealth has never been my forte so might as well go guns blazing!"

Two guards stood at the front entrance of the factory. Bored out of their minds.

"Hey".

"Yeah?"

"Do you ever wonder why we're here?"

"It's one of life's great mysteries isn't it? Why are we here? Are we the–".

~THUD~

"WHAT THE-!"

The two guards turned to see a figure clad in all black land directly in front of them. They didn't have anytime to react as the figure smashed their heads together, knocking them out.

"Two down!"

The figure said in a happy tone. They pushed open the door and entered the factory. A slaughter would soon begin.
