Sneaky

Carefully closing the door behind her after her last check up for the night she quietly exited the hall and went to the backyard of their inn where she sat down and enjoyed the peacefulness of the night. This was the place she came to think whenever something was on her mind and with today's event in mind she had a lot to think about. Memories of old times flashed past filled with events she hated and loathed but also the time when she finally found her husband after all the struggling. She even remembered the bad times that came with that too. As she sat and reminisce a figure slowly approached her from behind and sat down on the bench while pulling her close.

"What's on your mind?"

His familiar hands comforted her as she leaned on him and continued to stare at the sky.

"What makes you think something's on my mind."

"Haha, don't joke around with me. You always come here to think or you wouldn't even be here."

"Not true."

"Stubborn as ever I see."

Chuckling to himself he didn't further push the subject as he sat there and patiently waited for her to speak up. She was always like this even when they were young. "Stubborn as a bull" finally after a couple of minutes had passed she finally spoke up.

"You saw it right?"

"Saw what?"

"Don't play dumb. you know what I'm talking about."

"Are you referring to the boys "unique" features or maybe the girl being a Beastling or is it perhaps that look in our daughter's eyes? There was many things to see and think about but which one are you talking about?"

"Haa...Maybe all of them."

"I see."

With that silence washed over them as they grew quiet once again until eventually she spoke up once again.

"So that's the boy eh."

"it seems so."

"She's definitely going to have a hard time cracking that case."

"Maybe so, but with the stubbornness she got from you I doubt it'll be an iss- Ow,ow,ow"

"Who are you calling stubborn."

Pinching his thighs she kept at it until he eventually begged her to stop. Satisfied with the result she let go and let him continue.

"okay, okay I get it but you got to admit she is stubborn."

"And that's exactly why I'm worried. What if she does something silly?"

"It'll be a good lesson for her then if it ever comes to that point."

"Maybe but I don't want to see her get hurt either."

"I know, neither do I but we can't be by her side forever to protect her can we. She's got to do this by herself."

"Mmmm...What do you think of the boy?"

"What about him."

"He doesn't seem exactly human from what I can tell but I can't see any further then that which is worrying.

"He doesn't seem like a bad match though. But he seems to have some difficulties of his own that he also needs to get over just like Tearia."

"So you saw it too."

"Do you think anything can hide from my eyes? I may be old but I'm not going senile yet. Haha."

Laughing at his silly joke to himself his wife slapped his arm to get him to stop.

"Are you sure you're not crazy?"

"Haha, no my love. I'm only Crazy for you."

"Always a flatter eh?"

Well she may have said that she wasn't dissatisfied with it either. Staring into his eyes she once again saw the same similar look she had seen earlier but this time she didn't feel scared like before but happy.

"Well if he's an ok match for her, Why don't you train him a little bit?"

With that his carefree smile vanished as it was replaced with a dead serious look that she hadn't seen in a long time. She knew she was stepping on a landmine with him but she still had to bring up just in case. For him and herself.

"That a no?"

"You should know better than to ask that anymore, I don't want to train another one. Not after last time."

"Are you still depressed about that haa.. there was nothing you could do. It isn't your fault she died you know? You don't have to keep blaming yourself....plus this time the one your training will maybe be the father of our future great grandchildren doesn't that sound delightful?"

"Maybe i'll teach him a few tricks if they ever make any progress but that's my final answer."

"And I'm the stubborn one?" Sighing under her breath she went quiet again as she enjoyed staying side by side with her husband. Eventually he kissed her cheek and got up to go start his business with the inn.

"Make sure you get some sleep, Goodnight."

Watching him walk away and turn the corner she eventually turned back to the rising sun as she slowly drifted off into her sleep.

*Creak*

Little by little the door opened as Xelfia peaked her head out of her room after getting dressed. Spotting her grandfather at the front she waved at him and walked up to him. All night she had been thinking about what happened and how she could possibly help Xilo which ended up with her staying up late into the night with nothing to show for it unfortunately.

"Is he still in there?"

"Yea, he should be sleeping though I'm not sure. Try not to wake him if he is, he needs his sleep."

"Don't worry, I just want to check on him that's all."

With that she turned around and lightly made her way across behind the counter through the backdoor and silently walked down the hall until eventually reaching the room Xilo and Xelfia were in currently. Turning the knob she poked her head into the door at first to see if he was awake or not only to see his white hair with a streak of red combined covering his face as he slept right next to Xelfia. "Yay he's asleep still." Thankfully he was still sleeping. She quietly trotted into the room and went beside Xilo. Poking his side and touching his face a little she checked if he would wake up at all before finally having some confidence he wouldn't wake up. Slowly brushing the hair out of his face she revealed his handsome face she constantly saw whenever she stopped to think and admired it as he slept.

Since he was sleeping at the moment he didn't have the usual cold and hard look to him as he usually always did whenever she saw him but instead had a happy look of relief that she had never seen before. Enjoying looking at this new expression she had never seen before that made her heart bubble she grabbed a chair and leaned beside him and stared at his face. If anyone saw her at the moment they would probably swear she had hearts in her eyes. She was completely in a trance that she didn't want to wake up from.

After a couple hours had passed and she built up some courage she finally brought her face closer to his and slowly touched his lips and felt his breath on her palm. If it was any other time Xilo might have woken up already but she was lucky he was so exhausted. Enjoying that feeling for a little bit she eventually brought her own face closer and leaned in to give him a kiss. Bringing her lips over his, she lightly tapped theirs together for a quick second before she felt a quick electrical tingle flow through her body that caused her to heat up and back off. Panting and breathing heavily she steadied her breathing as she contemplated whether to do it again but before she could something interrupted her.

*Knock* *Knock*

Sighing with frustration at her ruined moment she composed herself as she went to the door and let whoever was knocking in. Seeing her granddaughter on the other side of the door with a slightly flushed face and a sleeping Xilo she raised an eyebrow but she didn't sense anything else amiss so she left it be and entered to take another look at Xelfia.

"Hi grandma. What are you doing here?"

"Checking on them of course, you?"

"I was just doing the same. I am worried as well, you know?"

"That's fine but don't wake him up okay?"

"yessss."

With that her grandmother went to work as she turned back to Xilo and looked at him but this time from further away and a lot more restraint.
