Next Mission

Shiro eventually exited his bedroom and tried to leave, but he wasn't quite sure where to go. It was because of him that this mission failed, he thought he would get kicked out.

But nonetheless, he would open the door. He didn't care, as long as it took him anywhere.

He entered a long Hallway which went to for quite a while. On the left side of the wall, there were pictures with dates labeled on top of them. There was a picture for every 5 years.

The first date was 1939, but the picture for it was missing. This would also apply to 1944. No picture would appear until 1949, which Shiro realized what these were for.

On the picture for 1949, Shiro noticed that the people inside the pictures were wearing the P.E.S armbands. Some of the members were old, some young, and some could be seen in multiple other pictures compared to others.

This was the history of the psychic execution squad. A log of it's members and their accomplishments.

"Wow."

As he ascended up the timeline, he eventually made it up to 2008. It was the first time he saw Weatherman, who looked younger compared to him today. Surprisingly, he held the captains armband. He also saw a picture of Enji who was missing the scar she had.

"So they've been around for almost 3 generations?"

In 2013, Aiko the current captain made her appearance. Not even 5 years later, she was made the captain while weatherman was demoted.

"Not really surprised there."

He continued to walk down and eventually reached 2018. There wasn't a picture for it. Naturally it was because one hadn't been taken yet.

Shiro eventually made it down the end of the corridor were double doors were waiting for him.

He didn't have a good feeling, but he opened it anyway. He was introduced to a lush grassy field that seemingly didn't end. On a tall hill somewhere, there was someone sitting down waiting for him at a tea table.

Oddly she wore a black wedding dress.

She was waving at him madly.

"Shiro-kun!"

Shiro recognised her as she was the only one he knew which ever used honorifics. It was the overseer.

Shiro tried to leave through the door he came through, but it suddenly disappeared.

"What's wrong Shiro-kun?? Let's have some tea?"

Shiro was very cautious about her. She was incredibly unpredictable, and now she even wore that suspicious outfit. Despite keeping his distance, Shiro suddenly found himself sitting Infront of her.

"!!"

He jumped back, but the overseer told him not to worry.

"I just wanted your opinion on my new dress~"

"It's perverted. Let me out."

She cried as she complained that she was too mean to her, but Shiro really didn't care about her feelings. He asked her to get straight to the point.

"I heard about your failure."

Shiro wasn't very shocked at the news, but he did feel very down. Every time he thought about that mission he could only remember Hoshiko dying.

"You've got the blues huh?"

"Stop trying to be relatable."

Shiro growing a little more comfortable, he decided to sit down. But he was still wary of the overseers odd behaviour.

"Shiro-kun, I'm going to be honest but your failure could cost us the whole of Japan. I saw the report from Enji, but I understood that the Kyubi which Akira absorbed was weakened. It was only thanks to the circumstances that you were able to beat him, but if it reaches its full power, then not even all the psychics we have available could take him out."

He was well of his failure, the entire country could be destroyed any minute because of him.

"But is my fault for even assigning you to it. I completely ignored your inexperience, and now this has happened. Instead i'll be having you take a much easier mission."

He was surprised at the sudden request, but glad to know that he wasn't being kicked out. This was the only family he had left.

She handed Kai a document with a surprisingly low amount of papers inside. He opened it up and got to reading.

"In a school in Tokyo, there have been rumors about students with strange powers. One of them was able to beat up a gang by just flicking their wrist, and others were capable of just as bizarre abilities. They have no care whether they show these abilities in public or not, so its likely-"

Kai interrupted her as he could guess what it was.

"They were given powers by Eclipse?"

The psychics which Eclipse created have all taken something away from him. His rage towards them steadily grew, and this was something that the overseer had noticed.

"Perhaps, but there is also the possibility that they are natural. We are going to have you infiltrate that school, and it will be your job to find these psychics. If they resist, then feel free to detain them."

Shiro got up from the table, and was about to leave but the overseer stopped him.

"Shiro-kun? Unless they are from Eclipse, do not kill anyone."

Shiro looked back at her with distant, but the overseers once playful face was hard and serious. The sudden change made him flinch.

"That's an order. Disobey and I won't show you the same mercy."

A door that led to back to Aether suddenly appeared in front of him. He quickly left without hesitation. Even after all this time, Shiro could still never get a read on her.

He didn't need to complete the assignment immediately, so he went to the combat room for some training.

The comms device which psychics wore also acted as a kind of recording device. Since Shiro wore his during the entire battle, a recording of his final battle with Akira was saved, including when he was possessed.

He observed his body using new more polished techniques which he'd never tried before. And foolishly he tried to replicate them.

"Focus on multiplying the number of blood cells..."

When he did, a pain emerged from his finger tips as it suddenly exploded from pressure.

This was not the result he wanted.

"How did that guy do it? A blade of blood..."

As he kept trying, Arashi eventually entered the training room.

He was still quite injured from the other day, but he seemed to be recovering very well.

"Arashi? Are you sure you should be walking around right now?"

Without a hint of hesitation, he suddenly punched Shiro.

"You let Hoshiko die right in front of you? After all that crap you talked about saving her and shit, you let her die?"

Shiro tried to get back up, but Arashi kicked him back down.

"We failed the mission because of you! Fight me you asshole, I'll beat it into you. What it means to be a psychic hunter!"
