Arcday morning saw me return to the Police HQ for another week at work. The third week of the 35th month, or the second full week if we ignored the two-day week at the start, was both more "leisurely" and busy compared to the previous week. There was not a single attempt at my life so far, hence the leisurely part.
As for the busy one, we only dealt with a single case, but the whole week, or rather work-week, passed, and yet we failed to solve the case. The case itself was a suspected theft case. A family called in and reported that the little daughter's Seedot had gone missing from their garden while she went back inside to bring some more cookies for their tea party.
We first suspected that someone had stolen/kidnapped the Seedot since it was a somewhat uncommon Pokemon in Kanto. We spent the next 4 days looking into any potential leads while checking the market, both the official and black market to see if we could find the Seedot, but came up empty-handed on all accounts.
Even after being dismissed for the week, I privately spent both Dialday and Kyoday looking into some other places where a Seedot could be sold. Yet, I failed to find any leads. Well, actually, I did come across two Seedots during my search, but I was able to determine that neither of them was Sid, the Seedot we were looking for.
With that said, Grouday ended up being the only day of my extended weekend that I truly relaxed. I spent the day inside Utopia and only left the next morning when it was time for work. After meeting up with Detective Monroe, she apprised me of the investigation that had been done by our unit while I was away, and I shared the locations I had visited.
She did chide me a bit for "working" while I was off duty, but considering the circumstances, she understood why I did it, so she let it slide. Regardless, similar to my experience, the team failed to find any trace of Seedot as well, and that remained true during our investigations over the next two days as well.
At this point, it became apparent that the thief had either left Celadon City or was for some reason not planning to sell the Seedot for the time being. It was also possible that there was no thief and the Seedot had vanished due to some other reason.
While one part of our unit continued to focus on the previous measures, the other part decided to go back to the crime scene and start an expansive as well as thorough search effort starting from there. We were out there for the whole day, scouring the whole neighborhood and the adjacent ones as well.
Despite not finding anything, we resumed our search/investigation on Palkiday, and roughly two hours after lunchtime, we managed to locate Seedot, or at least what was left of the poor little dude. We found his remains about four neighborhoods from the victim's house, which was roughly 10 km away, in a shrub below a Pidgey's nest.
Considering the circumstance, it was not hard to deduct that the Pidgey had spotted the lone Seedot while flying/passing by, and decided to bring it back home for obvious reasons. There were three Pidgey in that nest, two adults and a youngling.
It was unfortunate that the case ended up having a sad/bad conclusion, but at least we managed to solve the case, and the family got to know what became of Seedot, though the parents did not share Sid's fate with their daughter. The Pidgey were left alone since they were wild and it was determined that they had not really broken any laws.
Upon our return to the HQ, we were asked to finish the case report before being dismissed for the day, or in my case for my prolonged weekend. Admittedly, I felt a bit bad about the end of the case, but there was honestly not much I could do about it, so I went to the closest KFP and ate my frustrations away.
Following that, I made my way to the dorm, and on the way there I checked my mail. I actually saw that I had received a reply concerning my junior professorship. I quickly proceeded to open it before reading through the reply, and it was a confirmation notice that I had been granted the Junior Professor title.
They actually added a digital copy of my certificate to the mail and mentioned that a physical certification would be sent to an address of my choice. Further, they also mentioned that my paper on Skellibra would be appearing in the next edition of Nature's magazine, which actually came out tomorrow.
It had been nearly two months since I sent in the application, and I had finally gotten the result. During these 7 weeks, I had gotten quite a few inquiries on what happened to my application, mainly from Aaron and my parents, but also from some of the others, and I could now finally give them a proper response.
Since I did not want to talk about my Junior Professorship while I was still walking to the dorm, I waited until I arrived in my room, before I called my parents to tell them the good news. Mom and Dad were thrilled to hear that my application had been accepted, and Mom praised me to the high heavens, while Dad told me that he was proud of me.
They decided that something like attaining a professorship warranted a celebration, and insisted on taking a break from their travels to meet with me in person both because they wanted to congratulate me physically and to celebrate my new Junior Professor title. Since my dorm room was not really suitable for such a thing, we decided to meet up at our home in Hope Town after breakfast tomorrow.
Shortly after that decision was made, we hung up. With my parents out of the way, I first sent a personal message to Aaron about passing the review and gaining the Junior Professor title. In my opinion, his attention to the matter required at least that much. Following that, I also sent a message to our group chat to share the good news with my other friends.
It did not take long for congratulatory messages to come in, and some of them asked if I was going to hold a celebration. I was honestly not sure since I had not planned to hold a proper party, but I thought that it might be nice to have a get-together, so I told them that I'd see about organizing something for the next Kyoday or Grouday, to give everyone some time to free some time for the celebration.
After tying up the chat, I was about to head inside Utopia when my phone began to ring. A quick look showed that Kinji was calling so I picked up, and apparently, he wanted to congratulate me properly and not just through a message. While we were talking I saw that a few others were calling me as well, but since I could not just hang up on Kinji to pick up their calls, I waited until Kinji hung up before I began calling back the others.
I ended up having to call back pretty much all the girls, along with Aaron, Ace, and Yu. I heard Coco shouting his congratulations while I was on the phone with Akame, so he could be listed as well I guess. As if that had not been enough, Aunt Lily and the other aunties called as well, most likely having received the news from my mother.
Only after chatting with all of them did I finally enter Utopia, and I spent the rest of the day there. I made sure to tell my Pokemon that I would be busy this weekend since I would be spending time with my parents.
The next morning, I woke up a bit early and directly teleported to our home in Hope Town. I came an hour before my usual breakfast time to get the cleaning out of the way. If I waited till my parents arrived, Mom would ask us to clean up the place anyway, and we would do it mostly the classic way. It was better for me to take care of the cleaning before it came to that.
I called out Mothra/Butterfree, Gwen/Gardevoir, Tatsumaki/Alakazam, as well as Luna/Clefable, and had them help me clean the house. Using wind manipulation and psychic powers made cleaning really fast, and in less than 30 minutes we had dusted and cleaned the whole place.
Then I prepared breakfast, and we ate it together. My parents showed up an hour later, and Mom proceeded to hug the stuffing out of me while proclaiming how proud she was of me. Dad pat me on the back and also told me that I had made him proud.
We moved on to the veranda and spent the next few hours talking. I brought up the celebration I was planning to hold next week, and Mom jumped onto the idea. She told me to leave it to her and took over the organization of the party, which suited me just fine.
As I had expected my parents stayed for the full weekend, and I accompanied them during that time. We separated on Grouday a few hours after dinner, but not before agreeing to meet up back here on Kyoday next week. I also confirmed the time of the celebration in our chat group, while also adding that the celebration would start at 5 p.m.
Arcday morning saw me back at the Police HQ, and we actually got assigned to a rather interesting case. It was a theft case, but the interesting part was the item that got stolen. The burglar had absconded with a Mega Stone, specifically an Ampharosite.
That was not something that could simply be compensated by the insurance if we failed to track the burglar down. Well, they could give the guy some money, but he wanted his Ampharosite., which was totally understandable. We started by examining the crime scene and went from there.
We kept investigating, but it quickly became apparent that this case would not be solved within just a day or two. On Giratiday, close to 4 p.m. I got some good news, though the news had nothing to do with the case. Instead, it was Ryujin/Gyarados, who informed me that he had gotten the feeling of completeness.
I naturally made sure to check his status sheet that evening after entering Utopia. Since that was the case, I made the announcement over UtopiaFM and told everyone to gather at Ryujin's place. Once everyone had gathered, I wished him good luck together with Fortuna/Togetic, before joining the others in the circle they had already formed around him. I then gave Ryujin the go-ahead, and he initiated his breakthrough.
Everything went smoothly, and as soon as his breakthrough was complete, I went up to him and congratulated him on reaching the dark gold stage. The other members of the Sinister Six were right behind me and began congratulating him right after I did.
The rest followed suit as well, and I went ahead and began checking his new/updated status sheet.
'Name: Ryujin
Species: Gyarados
Gender: Male
Age: 13+ Years
-
Type: Water, Dragon
Potential: Light Aurora (15.98%)*
{Deep Purple (50.49%) -> (51.96%) -> Light Aurora (15.98%)}'
As expected, Ryujin had joined the Aurora Club, and while 16ish percent was not all that great, it was already not bad considering that he had broken through to the dark gold stage. The reduction his potential bonus ultimately suffered was no joke after all. Still, his attaining light aurora potential meant that he had unlocked a third ability.
'Abilities: Intimidate, Mold Breaker, Moxie*'
I was happy to see that the ability ended up being Moxie since it was pretty much one of the best abilities I could think of for a Gyarados. I shared the news with him, and Ryujin was quite happy with his new ability as well. I then continued looking through his status, and the next change only appeared in the bond section.
'Bond: Mikail (deep)*
Quirks: Slightly Combative
----
Parameters:
Stage: Dark Gold Stage (mid)*
Vitality: D
Strength: C
Endurance: D
Agility: D
Energy Capacity: D
Energy Density: D'
Well, I had already felt our bond deepening, so seeing it on paper was no surprise. The same was true for his stage, or more specifically his sub-stage since I/we already felt him release (mid) dark gold undulations. The truly important part was his parameters, and from them, I could see that Ryujin had to raise three more parameters to C to reach the (high) dark gold stage, so he had some work ahead of himself.
I then moved on to his type relations section and saw that the breakthrough had helped him complete the standardization of his dragon-type weakness, which was definitely good news.
'Resistance: Fire (Major), Water (Major), Steel (Minor)
-
Weaknesses: Fairy (Minor)
-
Standardized:
Dragon*
That only left him with a single weakness, so training his resistance to fairy energy would be our next step. This was something I absolutely had to share with Ryujin, and he was really happy to hear about the completion of his resistance training since it meant that he no longer had to be bathed in dragon flames. Following that reveal, I looked through the rest of his status sheet.
'Techniques:
-
Proficient:
Earthquake (+), Brutal Swing (+), Breaking Swipe (+)
-
Advanced:
Scald (+), Whirlpool (+), Outrage (+), Draco Meteor (+), Surf (new)
-
Mastered:
Dragon Rush (+), Hydro Pump (+)'
Seeing no other changes caused by his breakthrough, I closed the status sheet and declared the start of Ryujin's celebration, while thinking that we should focus on mastering Surf next.
