After almost ten minutes of being bombarded with questions, Margret finally snapped and started berating him, to little effect. He only shut up when she threatened to fail him and leave right away.
Margret was taking some deep breaths to calm down. After she calmed down she noticed the other workers who had finally picked themselves up, were all looking at Robert's feet in shock. When she looked over, she was also surprised. Sitting at either side of him was an Eevee and Vulpix, both shiny.
Margret was mildly surprised. This kid had two shiny Pokémon when even rich and influential families would find it hard to source one. The truth was this was the first time anyone besides Roberts family and uncle Jack had seen these two as well. To avoid trouble the only time they could come out of their Pokéball's was in the clearing hidden away by the jungle and in the house.
Robert didn't return them to their Pokéball's when he ran out because he didn't feel the need. After today he will be leaving, and they would be protected at the junior league so there was no need to hide them anymore.
While the shiny Pokémon were surprising, that was all. She had seen shiny's before and wasn't overly impressed. They were rare but that was all. There were even a few currently at the Junior League.
What surprised her more was that the kid didn't seem nervous at all, he seemed to be oozing confidence. As if he had already passed any test she could have. Margret snorted a little, this kid was making light of how hard it was to get into the Junior league. If he thought he could coast in because his Pokémon were shiny then he had another thing coming.
Robert was indeed confident that no matter the test he could pass it with flying colours. He had worked hard and didn't think he couldn't even pass the entrance test.
The test itself was usually decided by the individual inspector so there is no way to prepare for it because there is no way to know what it will be. No matter what though the test had to be related to being a trainer or with Pokémon and he was confident in anything related to either.
Margret looked at Robert now silently waiting for her and nodded in satisfaction. Her threat might not be the most ethical but it was the only thing that worked. "As you may have noticed I'm not your typical inspector. Truth is I'm an instructor from the junior league." Everyone widened their eyes in shock at this revelation. It was obvious Margret wasn't a standard inspector but no one expected this. "The reason I came is because of you're older sister's, Stephanie and Sasha. While neither stood out when they first arrived, they both worked hard and endured through all the trials sent their way. both have now become very impressive young trainers."
Dennis, Robert and Mariah, who had made her way over after Robert darted out of the house, beamed with pride when they heard this. Margret saw them all puff up with pride but she didn't think it was strange or pour cold water on them. Truth is that out of the few young trainers that make it into the Junior league, even fewer manage to make it through the full five years and pass. Most groups will be halved within the first two years. To be able to make it to their last year was something worth being proud of.
"The reason I came personally is that while your sisters were training, they would always sing praises of their little brother. Even after being in their last year next year and going through all the hardships they have, remain adamant that their little brother would be like a fish in water there. If it was just first or second-year kids I could just wave it off as kids bragging Those two however are finishing their fourth year and know better. It's quite unusual for so many young trainers to qualify for the junior league in the same family, so I thought I would come and take a look myself".
Margret then looked down at the still silent Robert with a little scorn, "I however am unimpressed. All I see is a wild little brat who hopes to coast through because he lucked out and got a couple of shiny Pokémon."
"Skaaaarr" Margret frowned at her Skarmory's sudden outburst but didn't say anything. Margret didn't notice it but when she spoke about Robert just then, Both Eevee and Vulpix narrowed their eyes a little as a cold light flashed in them. Skarmory had far sharper senses and noticed the twos change, so he warned them little.
Robert himself however couldn't care less. He was happy to hear his sisters were doing well. As for this instructor, even if she gave a test that was a little harder than normal it wouldn't bother him. Robert was still confident he could pass any test she threw at him.
Margret saw how unfazed Robert was and still oozing confidence. She raised her opinion of him a little, at least he didn't seem hot-headed and rash. "alright let's get straight to the test then". As Margret said that she pulled out a device that was twenty centimetres long and ten centimetres wide. The top half had a screen and the bottom had a round indent.
This was a tool inspector's used to check the level of Pokémon. You shrink down the ball with the Pokémon inside and it reads out what Pokémon it is, its type and level, nothing more. "I'm sure you saw how this works when you're sisters were tested, so I won't explain it. Which of these two are you going to use for the test." Robert was stressed at her question as he didn't know the answer himself. He looked at the two who were both sitting up tall and puffing out their chest, he knew they both wanted to go. Robert looked back at Margret, who looked confused about why he hadn't answered her yet.
"How about you decide and I'll use that Pokémon". Eevee and Vulpix gave him an annoyed glare. Margret widened her eyes in surprise. "Do you mean that you have both these Pokémon past level 20, even if they are Shiny's that's a little hard to believe?" Robert simply nodded back. "hmmm, alright let's go with Eevee then." Eevee immediately looked excited while Vulpix deflated a little. Robert bent down and comforted her as he patted her. "it's ok Vulpix, next time there is a test it will be your turn. You can still stay out and watch this time. Alright Eevee hop into the ball for now."
Robert returned Eevee to her Pokéball and handed it to Margret. Margret placed it in the device and soon after her eyes widened in shock. She quickly looked up at Robert and saw the smug look on his face, like he won one over her. Her brow twitched a little but she really couldn't say anything. As she looked at Eevee's data again she couldn't help but think, 'maybe those two weren't wrong after all'.
