Chapter 9: Guardians of the engine room

It was finally time to go to Cape Town Stadium and this was a straight shot. After a quick look at Google maps, everyone got in the truck and off they went. Everyone was quiet and lost in their own thoughts. This was a serious situation they were in and the closer they got to their destination, the worse it became.

They got on the N2 and then hopped onto the N1 before finally making it to Cape Town Stadium. They were still a few kilometers away but they could see the massive figure of the stadium standing out amongst the buildings surrounding it.

Willy drove the truck as close as possible before getting out. Everyone followed suit and they got out. "Should we move now or wait till night?" Willy asked as he looked at Ryan. Ryan could see that Willy was getting impatient but he still respected his opinion.

Luckily for him, Ryan also felt that it was better to strike now since waiting till dark will make it the hardest for them. The guys got ready to change so the girls looked in the opposite direction but it was unnecessary since they had black pants underneath the jeans.

Ryan wondered if this was the actual reason they were so quiet. He felt hot in the truck despite only wearing black pants but they actually wore jeans on top of it. He felt like laughing but decided to keep it in.

The guys finished changing and got their weapons ready. Everyone looked at Ryan again since he was the man with the plan. Ryan made four teams for this mission. One team to destroy the engine. One to rescue the children and two distraction teams, one to help each team.

The engine team would be Cassidy, Wikkie and Ryan. The children's rescue team was Caylin, Rebecca and Willy. Clifford and The Ai were the rescue team's distraction team and Vaughie and Dawg belonged to the engine team.

The teams were decided and it was ready to head out. They had to hide a lot of times because of the amount of cranonians present near the stadium. It didn't take long for them to pass through the entrance for the stadium though.

As they got into the stadium, they couldn't help but gaze upon the magnificent spaceship in front of them. It wasn't shaped like a flying saucer but more like a giant balloon, yet the ship itself was really cool and got approved by all the guys.

They slowly moved through the seats of the stadium as they approached the rear of the ship. There is a small entrance at the back and all they saw were two Cranonians standing guard. Unlike those they have encountered, these ones looked more level headed.

They even had something akin to swords at their waste bands. Ryan tightened his grip on his sword before slowly moving towards them. He got as close as he could which was quite a distance before running towards them.

The cranonians jumped towards Ryan without even removing their swords. They probably thought he was nothing but an insect that can be squashed anytime they want. Unfortunately, they were going to regret this in a moment.

Ryan swung the sword with full force horizontally and cutting off the head of the first cranonian before following it up with a spin and cutting off the head of the second cranonian too. He immediately retreated before blood could touch his clothes.

Everyone looked stunned for a moment but Ryan placed his index finger on his lips before signaling for everyone to head inside. Clifford and The Ai headed into the direction of the lab followed by Rebecca, Caylin and Willy.

Vaughie and Dawg went towards the engine room followed by Ryan, Wikkie and Cassidy. Vaughie and Dawg took care of every single cranonian they came across so reaching the engine room was pretty easy.

Ryan got his sword ready and quickly opened the door of the engine room before rushing in with his sword. There was no one though. Wikkie and Cassidy went deeper inside the room and Ryan told Vaughie and Dawg to go support Willy since they'll need help moving the kids.

He then followed Wikkie towards the platform where the engine was.' It was really small for an engine though,' Ryan thought before Wikkie placed the bag he was carrying on the ground. Wikkie took out three Molotov cocktails and placed them onto the floor.

It then hit Ryan. They forgot to grab matches at the store. Wikkie took out a lighter before looking at Ryan with a grin. They got lighters when they were out buying clothes. Ryan looked at the three petrol bombs and wondered if it was a good idea to give three to each team.

He didn't dwell on the topic too much and got ready to help Wikkie burn down the engine. Then a voice Ryan recognized as Cassidy's reached them saying, "Guys…you better look behind you." And sure enough, three giant cranonians were looking at them.

Ryan gripped the sword even tighter as he looked at the three giants. They looked like two story houses. "Destroy the engine and get back to the exit. I'll keep them busy and then follow you guys," Ryan left those words to Wikkie and ran to the closest giant cranonian.

Ryan didn't run too fast since his only plan was to distract them long enough for Wikkie and Cassidy to finish destroying the engine and make a break for it. He got close to the first cranonian and waited for it to throw out a punch at him before dodging to the left.

He circled around the cranonian and slashed at it's hind legs but it barely made a mark and the next he saw was another fist coming at him. The second cranonian joined the fight and Ryan had no way of dodging it to the sides so he quickly jumped.

Unfortunately, being in midair caused him to be unable to move out of the way of the next incoming fist.
