43. Not the two same people

"Mr Gale?" With amusement he chuckled as he stared at those indifferent eyes. He hated those eyes so many times, but now he understood that it was something needed in this current situation.

Women like Gloria Stein that showed her feelings openly might get in trouble. But these women always kept their feelings inside and were now on guard of anyone.

Last few nights he knew what he did was wrong, but there was no other way.

"You knew it... long ago..." Anna Gale came to that conclusion after thinking how he acted last few years.

His expression became solemn. "Yes."

"Will you tell me how?" Anna Gale actually remembered her father being a good man that love her and their mother.

But from one day to another he changed.

And that change was so groundbreaking that it hurt her deeply. Michelle and Alice grew up never knowing that this man knew how to be happy man and loving father, so they were not hurt as much she was.

"Six years ago I found out about experiment that failed. People changed and they had to stop experiment. But they erased traces and everything was calm for another year until breakout in Asian country. They cleaned the mess quickly and soon again was peace over it. I tracked news all over the world until I saw signs of extreme behaviours happening here and there and slowly being cleaned. But it still started spreading more and more." He spoke solemnly and glance at the group of soldiers. "No matter how many of those you kill, it's already airborne. As that didn't change can become only food to those creatures. Child, hate me as much you want. But you must remember things that led me to become this cold to your mother. You must remember."

"What for? " Anna Gale indifferently glanced at him. "I'm glad you two are no more together. You didn't feel comfortable with her and she was afraid of you. Now she found new friends and can live as she wants and you found a new partner in life. The three of us live safely and are rather happy."

She said what she wanted and turned around. "You are not a dumb or weak man. Gather points to get own room. I might not like you, but I won't hate my sibling. Don't you even dare to ask me to call that woman mother. I have only one mother."

"Understood." Henry Gale sighed in relief.

Even if that child is born, she won't ignore it. That was enough for him.

He turned around and saw Gloria Stein looking at him from further away with fear in her eyes. He went to her and looked at her. "What is it? Did you get hurt? I told you to stay back in the base."

Gloria Stein was stubborn person and he couldn't control her like he did to Jocelyn.

"No. Not gonna stay there while you are outside. I need to watch your back."

He suddenly felt comforted. A woman that holds man's back was not a small thing in this situation.

"Your daughter, will she harm the little one? " She held her hand protectively over her small bump.

"No. She said she will not hate it as its her sibling, but she can't accept you." He bluntly told her in face what she thought of her and made her speechless.

"You let her speak about me that way?" Since she became pregnant her aggressive behaviours became worse.

"I know you are pregnant, but that doesn't mean I will jump at any of your ridiculous thoughts. Anna dislikes you as I cheated her mother with you. It's logical behavior. I like you more than Jocelyn and want to have you by my side for the next few decades of my life. Even though I married Jocelyn long ago, I never felt for her like I felt for you. She was too calm and too depend on me. I tried various way to make her get out and become more dependent on herself, but it became worse. You on other hand are real fighter. Now that you are pregnant, make sure you are safe. World is no more like before where I can just give you a key to lock the door and that's it. I might stumble and fall and die. Or get killed by zombie. Or just die of heart attack. You never know. But as long as I can still move, I will be supportive as much you need me to. What's the point of me being strong if I can't use it?"

Gloria Stein became speechless about the whole tsunami of words swapping over her and started laughing. "Fine... Go and work. I'll still keep your back safe."

He could only sigh and agree.

This stubborn woman couldn't be even stopped by armored soldiers and pushed her way trough the crowd to sit right next to him.

His heart warmed up and he was about to hug her but gave up and continued to help others load things into trucks.

Gloria Stein had a smile on her face until she didn't see Jocelyn rolling her eyes and shaking her head. She saw a pitiful expression passing her eyes and snorted. "Pretentious b***h."

Jocelyn could see her mouthing a curse but just shrruged. If he is good to this woman or not it's no more her problem.

She realized in last couple days that she was strangely free.

Yes, she felt free... and happy... and finally got again wish to live the way she wanted.

The three women took her to a house and they gathered each a bundle of clothes they wanted to wear and some personal items.

After all, soldiers said they can take as much they can carry. They never said to take only one bag of things.

Anna Gale stood in mid of crowd and checked the house in the other world and saw that her sisters were reading something intently and let them be.

It was just mid of day so she casually checked the house of that driver and almost chocked.

His backyard and front yard was filled with baskets and bags of various vegetables and she hit her head.

"Oh... my... goodness..."
