44. But...

General Lewis looked at her flabergasted expression. "Something happened?"

She nodded. "I asked a friend to gather as much vegetables he could find and he did. I will leave here and go there to help him while I check the surroundings here. Don't worry. There are no larger groups of zombies nearby. You already sprayed disinfectant in the surroundings and that is stinking to them so they are far now. But as soon you fill trucks, go back. We can continue tomorrow. I'll go and get for the base some vegetables."

He uncociously saluted and saw her dissapear behind light.

"General, what if we try passing trough it?" One of officers asked.

"Idiot. If she could take anyone where she let her sisters stay, she would have long taken her mother. Watch well over both parents. Even though she has some grudge with her father, she still watches over him. I can see that. Now, let's get the gasoline. Did you find gas tanks?" He asked as he looked at the surroundings.

"We found few where miss Gale told us to look at. Five groups went to one gas station and the other five to the other. There is food inside and such." He spoke and suddenly saw a soldier rushing their way. "What is it?"

"There is a large group of survivors asking to join us back to the base." He pointed and whole bunch of cars with people inside.

"Bring them to the base. Casey, tell everyone that we will raid only until end of this block and go back for safety reasons. Those in the construction company gathered materials?"

Smith came forward. "Yes. They are already packing up and planning to go back and start helping to dig ditches deeper."

"No need. The ditches will be connected with electricity and if they really get inside, they will get electrocuted. They can just go back and start building secondary wall. With secondary wall we will have enough time to set up traps and prepare weapons In case of an attack." General Lewis already had many ideas and had plan to make huge minefield near the base and only the road will be free of it.

And warnings will show a map of mines in case survivors run into it.

While they already made new plans, Anna Gale appeared in that backyard and rubbed her temples as she thought how to transport these.

Just then she heard carriage nearing and glanced behind the corner.

The man drove a carriage full with various bags and she sighed. Is he crazy?

Suddenly she saw him seeing her and pointed at the back of his carriage. She shrruged and just winked at him.

He was curious to see what this child planned and spoke loudly. "Jeremy, Carlo come here. I want you two to meet someone."

Anna Gale was curious and saw two young men that were visibly similar to him and realized that they are his family members.

They saw a young boy in strange clothes leaning causally on wall of the mud house and looking at them indifferently.

"Marco, who is this?"

"Don't ask..." Marco looked at Anna Gale. "That is someone that saved my life. Benefactor, I did as you said."

"Very well. Come here and let me ask you something." She could see that he felt uncomfortable talking and pointed behind house.

Marco motioned to his brothers to stay there and rushed behind Anna.

She stopped far away and saw that the two young men were curiously peeking, but didn't try to spy on them.

"Tell me, do you trust your family?" She had no time for pleasantries.

"I trust them with my life." He rushed to say. "I heard that you saved those children and with them you saved my family as well. If they knew it was you that did that, they would die for you. Trust me, please."

Anna Gale shook her head. "I don't trust not even my own family. Let's go. Let's see if I can give them a chance."

She could see their curious stare that changed from curious to astonished. "You... you... but... you are just a child..."

"Yes. Now let's start. I'll drive supplies to place that needs it. When I come back you three pack the baskets and..." Suddenly she had a crazy idea. "I have helpers from the other side. I have an idea, but first let's bring this over there before I don't see if it's possible."

She waved her hand and opened gate. The carriage suddenly came out in mid of crowd, scaring many and soldiers started yelling for everyone to move.

They always run towards the shiny gate whenever they see it, like moths to the light.

"Jackson, Stevenson... I have na idea." She pointed at the shiny gate. "Bring few people and line them up. I have few people on the other side and they can just push bags and produce out and helpers here can grab it and drag it out."

Stevenson blanked while Jackson ordered few soldiers to stand next to the shiny gate and wait for it.

Anna Gale quickly passed the gate and made it appear in the back yard where most of the supplies were.

"Quickly. Just push baskets towards the gate. I can't bring humans trough the gate, but things can be pushed inside and out." She chuckled and saw that Mario pushed nearest basket and it was quickly pulled away.

"Hurry. They have to rush and have no time." How else to explain?

The three men had to just drag the baskets towards the gate that just appeared and disapeared and appeared near next one and so on.

The gate flickered every time she turned it off and on so the soldiers were ready every time to pull and drag the baskets away.

Bags with flour, baskets with various vegetables and pumpkins were sent towards the base and finally the gate disapeared completely.

As they saw gate disapear they knew that she won't be coming back for that day and dragged all the bags and baskets towards the canteen.

Just as they started taking away the food, jeep with general Lewis appeared and he jumped out.
