Luka Murdock

When he was six, Luka Murdoch had his life turned upside down. Pirates had invaded his island and killed his grandfather in front of everyone. After killing all those who ran the island, the pirates started passing on laws. 

"Every household is to give a heavenly tribute of 100 million Berries! Any house who fails to do so will lose their homes and forfeit their rights as citizens! If you're not citizens, you will be demoted to pets/slaves!" 

A pirate laughed as he read out the new laws. Of course, he was met with opposition. 

"....." 

Luka trembled as he stood in front of the stage again. On the stage were dozens of heads lined off on display. Luka knew the people these heads belonged to. The kind old man who gave him candy in secret. The little girl who played with him every day. The teenagers who teased him from time to time. The heads before him that belonged to bright people who smiled every day, were now stained with blood and tears. 

"....." 

Luka slowly placed his hand over his heart. 

(It hurts...) 

He thought. 

"Let's go, Luka." 

His father had appeared behind him and led him and his mother out of the crowd. Later that night, a group of people had gathered at his house. 

"We can't stand by and let them do as they please!" 

"Those bastards, to kill even children..." 

"We have to fight back!" 

Those gathered spoke to his parents with rage in their voices. 

"Any word from Whole Cake Island?" 

His father asked his mother. 

"I tried using my father's Snail Transponder to let them know what's going on...I did get to them, but Totto Land is too far away. It might take at least a week before help arrives." 

His father nodded. 

"A week is too long. Who knows how many people will die before that happens?" 

"Then..." 

His father nodded. 

"We're going to fight back!" 

"Oh!" 

The people roared. Luka's face became flushed with excitement. 

(Father is so cool!) 

He wore a huge grin. 

"........" 

Once again, Luka found himself standing before a stage. This time there was no one standing by his side. 

"Last night some idiots got the bright idea to rebel." 

A pirate stood before the crowd carrying a sack. 

"They were idiots, but they were a bit strong. They took down a single member of our crew! Isn't that impressive?!" 

He burst out laughing and emptied the sack on the stage. Heads rolled out of the sack and onto the stages. Blood flowed from their severed necks and formed a puddle. 

"Mommy...Daddy..." 

His eyes reflected the severed heads of his parents. He watched as their blood mixed with others and flowed off the stage. 

"Because they were able to accomplish such a feat, I'm going to bestow on you all a gift!" 

The pirate spread his arms. 

"Every household will now have to pay 200 million Berries as tribute! Isn't that great?!" 

He laughed while the crowd looked in horror. 

"....." 

Luka felt his chest tightened until it became unbearable. He walked out of the crowd with wobbly steps. His entire family was dead, and they were all killed before him. Yet, he didn't shed a single tear for any of them. 

(It hurts so much, but why aren't I crying?) 

He asked himself as he stumbled into his home. He fell to his knees devoid of strength. His ears were ringing and his vision was blurry. 

"Mommy, Daddy..." 

Despite the pain in his voice, no tears came. 

"Am I a monster just like those pirates?" 

The following days were hell for Luka. 

"You can't pay the tribute? Then, you have no right to live as a person." 

A pirate said these words after throwing him out of his house. He stooped down and put a collar around Luka's neck. 

"There, that's better. Hahahaha!" 

As a pet Luka had no rights. He would be kicked, spat on, and slapped for no reason by the pirates. Sometimes a random pirate would come and beat him to an inch of his life whenever they had a bad day. He wasn't alone, it was the same for all pets. Gender or age didn't matter. A pet was a pet, it didn't deserve to be treated like a human. 

"Ugh..." 

On the fourth day of the pirates' rule, Luka was curled up in a ball withering in pain. The rain was pelting his skin and his stomach was rumbling. After many attempts, he got up and started walking. He needed food or he would die. With this thought in mind, Luka subconsciously found himself standing before his former home. He found the spare key and went inside without care. He wandered into the kitchen. 

"......." 

He stood in silence as he stared at the kitchen that was ransacked. 

"Food..." 

He mumbled and headed towards his parents' room. He entered the room and mindlessly dug through everything hoping to find something to eat or something he could trade for food. He dug through the closet before collapsing. His head hit the wall and it broke the broads. Blood started flowing down his face as he opened his eyes. There, he saw a weird silver fruit. It was the first time he saw such a fruit. He slowly grabbed the fruit and started to devour it without care. 

"It tastes horrible..." 

He mumbled while continuing to eat it. 

"We're under attack!" 

A shout came from outside and startled him. 

"The Big Mom Pirates came faster than we expected!" 

"Everybody, grab what you can and get to the ship!" 

"We're leaving!" 

"...Huh? They're leaving?" 

Luka suddenly regained his strength and ran outside. He saw the pirates scrambling to leave the island. 

"We're saved...We're saved!" 

His face brightened. 

"The Big Mom Pirates are here to save us!" 

*Bam!* 

His house was hit by a cannonball and exploded. Luka was flung into the air. Soon a barrage of cannonballs rained down on the island. 

"...What's going on?" 

Screams rang in his ears. He looked around. People were running and crying before being hit by cannonballs. The Pirates weren't safe either. They were being blown to pieces along with everything on the island. 

"Dammit! Why are they destroying their own territory?!" 

A pirate screamed before being swallowed by an explosion. 

(Testing, testing.) 

Luka heard a voice broadcasting across the island. 

(People of Iduna and the pirates who took it over, this is Charlotte Daifuku third son of Big Mom. You all must be confused about why we're destroying the island. The thing is, Mama was extremely pissed when she heard the island was captured. She was especially pissed the people of Iduna allowed it to happen, thus sullying her name and reputation. As such, she's ordered for both the island and the pirates to receive punishment.) 

"What?" 

Luka couldn't believe his ears. 

"They didn't come to save us but to destroy us?" 

His chest tightened again. 

(Anyway, we brought our entire fleet to make an example of this incident. So, that's it. Iduna no longer exists.) 

Another round of cannonballs rained down on the island from all directions. People, buildings, civilians, or pirates, everything was being swallowed by explosions. Luka's body was thrown about in the madness, but he wasn't taking any damage for some reason. However, Luka didn't even notice this. His mind was too preoccupied with replaying everything that happened to him recently. 

He lost his family, lost his human rights, was tormented and beaten every day, and yet he didn't shed a tear. 

"This isn't fair...This isn't fair." 

His chest tightened until it felt like his heart was going to pop. 

"This isn't fair!" 

The heat from the flames was nothing compared to the pain in his chest. 

"Why?! Why?! Why?!" 

He screamed. He was flung into a building and the first thing he could see was a jolly roger. 

"Pirates...." 

The house exploded with him in it. He forced the burning rubble off himself and stood in a sea of flames. 

"It's all the pirates' fault.' 

His vision became blurry as silver tears flowed down his cheeks. The pain in his chest numbed. It reached the point where he didn't even know if he still had a heart. 

"I hate them! I hate them!" 

A cannonball hit him and he was swallowed in an explosion. 

"I'm gonna kill them..." 

His voice came from his silhouette in the flames. 

"I'M GONNA KILL THEM ALL!!!" 

With a roar, Haki rushed out of his body. Strong gusts extinguished flames around him. He started to walk as his haki created a path through the flames. With silver tears flowing down his cheeks, Luka looked towards the sky. 

"I will hunt every pirate down and slaughter them all..." 

He clenched his fists that were oozing mercury. 

"Every single one of them!" 

Luka roared as he slammed his fist in Luffy's face. Luffy flew back and bounced off the earth. He looked up at Luka who had bubbling hot mercury flowing around him. 

"Thank you for reminding me of why I can't lose to you." 

Luka spoke as if growling. Luffy stood up and spat out a couple of teeth. 

"No problem." 

He lifted his fists and grinned. 

"But you're still going to lose."
