First Day Chaos

"P-haaaa!" I gulped down air as my head broke the surface of the water.

I half expected that I'd have been dropped in the Ocean, far from any land due to my method of arrival before noticing the small, child-like body I found myself in. I was soaking wet from head to toe but I was clearly wearing some pretty fine-looking clothes, like I was the child of a wealthy merchant or aristocrat or something. I looked around to see I was seemingly in the very large backyard of a mansion, having fallen into the gutter and hitting my head.

"Ha! That's what you get, Freak!" I heard a child cry from above me. I turned around to see that about three stories above me was an open window. A head popped out of it, looking down at me with malice in his eyes. I didn't get to stay staring at an idiot for long though, as the child reached into the third story for a moment, only to grab an expensive-looking vase and chucking it at me, though his weak arms missed by a mile.

"Whoah! Are you trying to kill me!" I yelled back.

"Of course I am, you freak!" The child yelled before I heard shouting from behind him.

I couldn't make out what was being said, but it was clearly enough for him to stop accosting me and retreat. I was so confused. My head was spinning and throbbing all at the same time. What was going on?

At that moment, I felt the ground move out from underneath me as my head throbbed one final time. Memories of a life that weren't mine, but at the same time were, assaulted me. My name was Ramiel D Miles, an illegitimate child of Henry Miles and a barmaid in town. I was taken away from my mother when I was young by my father, but this wasn't because my father loved me and wanted to take me in or anything. It was because of the seemingly monstrous physical strength I've had since I was born.

As I sorted through my memories things became more clear to me. My father took me in so that I could be a bodyguard for his legitimate heir in the future, the little shit that just pushed me out of a three-story window, however, because I was still considered 'young', being only 9, I hadn't started any training yet. It seems my half-brother sees me as a threat and has been bullying and accosting me relentlessly these last few years.

As I finally finished getting my bearings, I spotted a small faint blue glow coming from between the grates where the water from the household was flushed through. Remembering that, at least according to my memories, I still hadn't received my devil fruit and adding to the fact that no one came around to this part of the mansion due to the smell the grate was giving off that Blue Glow probably had something to do with my wish.

I took a deep breath. The water from this grate wasn't sewage, but it did come from the washing room where they washed the dirty clothes, so it wasn't exactly clean, nor did it smell nice, but as long as I took a bath afterward, I'd probably be fine. I reached through the grates, stretching my hands as far as they would reach, just barely touching the tip of the fruit. I tried again and again until after almost a minute of stretching, my fingers finally gripped onto the fruit.

[Fruit]

I pulled my arm back out, taking care to wave it around to get the dirty, moldy water off of me before I stood there, admiring the slightly glowing fruit in my hands. A smile crept upon my lips thinking about all of the possibilities that were going to open up for me now that I had one of the most broken logia types in the series. It wasn't exactly my aim, but being pirate king wasn't out of the cards anymore, though I was more interested in the adventure of it all than in searching for the One Piece, though the nagging feeling of wanting to know what it was made the idea a tantalizing prospect.

Not being one to waste a golden opportunity, I immediately, and without hesitation, took a big bite out of the fruit.

"Bleah!!!" I very nearly threw it up immediately but through sheer force of will which I didn't even know I had, I managed to swallow the rotting mass of sewage on my tongue.

"How did kid Luffy stand eating such a terrible fruit without spitting it out?" I said, thinking aloud. I knew he was built differently but... damn."

My knees felt weak and my legs nearly gave out from the effort but I had swallowed it and surely my new power was already coursing through my body. A thought occurred to me to finish eating the entire fruit, as there was a theory that only by eating the entire thing could one awaken it, but I decided against it. The power was already absurd without awakening and at the end of the day, mastery over Haki was what really mattered.

I staggered as I began to walk back toward the front of the house, but when I put my hand on a tree nearby to balance myself a small zap occurred, causing large cracks in the tree to form. Instinctively I pulled my hand back in fright. It was one thing to see a Devil Fruit power being used on-screen. It was an entirely different feeling to see it in action.

I turned over my hand and my eyes widened in shock. In between my fingers, small amounts of electricity were jumping back and forth like it was some kind of Tesla Coil. The feeling was hard to describe. It was both an exhilarating and also completely natural feeling. I clenched my fist, seemingly shutting off the power before opening it again. This time there was no electrical arcing.

I chuckled happily to myself. "That's so cool," I muttered.

"What are you doing, Master Ramiel?" I heard a voice from behind me.

I quickly turned around to notice one of the maids, whose name was Lorelei, was approaching me with a set of towels. She'd been with us for roughly 5 years now, but would often take multiple month-long sabbaticals to return home to her family. It was a mystery as to why she was allowed to do this and not get fired, though my more mature brain told me it was probably because she was sleeping with my 'father'. She sure was beautiful though. Supermodels from my Earth would pay millions to look like she did. Perfect Curves with a perfect face. Despite being in her late twenties, she still looked young enough she could pass as a teenager. Her long straight light brown hair with amber eyes complimented by a pair of slim red glasses. I remembered me from the past had quite the crush on her and by the looks of it, the me from now will continue that tradition.

"Um, nothing really. I just had an accident and took it out on the tree." I said half-jokingly.

Lorelei raised one of her eyebrows, looking at me with some suspicion and disappointment. Ok, that hurt my pride a bit, as no one likes to look bad in front of their crush. Still, even though I was sweating under her gaze, I couldn't just fess up that I'd acquired a Devil Fruit, especially a Logia type with that much power.

Lorelei's gaze hung over me for a few more moments before she sighed softly. "All right then, young master. Off you go now. You're all wet and smell funky. I've already drawn a bath, you can use it first." She said, giving me the towel and shooing me off.

I happily complied. I wanted to test my devil fruit power out more, but the mansion is filled with servants and Lorelei wasn't wrong about my smell.

...

"Damn it, go away!" I muttered under my breath.

It was already well into the evening after everyone had gone to bed, but I was still wide awake. This was partially due to purposefully taking a nap during the day so that I would be well-rested enough to train my power at night, and partially due to the faint buzzing sound in my ears that had been going on for the last few minutes.

Buzzing may not have been the right word for it, however, as it felt like indistinguishable whispering in at least two different voices. One was soft and familiar while the other was harsh and sounded like it was coming from someone remarkably punchable, though once again, I couldn't get the sound out of my head.

Finally having had enough, I jumped up from my bed and carefully made my way out of my room. It was a small thing, only just barely big enough for my single bed a desk, and a dresser. It reminded me much more of a student's campus dorm than an actual room, but considering I had it all to myself unlike the servants who were doubled-up, it was fine. Sure it wasn't like the extra spacious room of my 'father' or half-brother, but it was really only a place for sleep for me anyway.

As I snuck through the halls, I felt like the buzzing sound was getting louder and the voices slightly more clear. I could pick up faint, brief words now. "Mission" "Suspects" "No Activity" and more, that was until I walked past the door to a certain someone and the noises began to fade again.

I knew I should probably just keep going, go on to training, and not worry about it, however, curiosity got the better of me at that moment. I gave out a silent sigh and turned around to the door where the buzzing was coming from and peeked through the keyhole.

There, sitting at her desk and talking on her transponder snail was Lorelei, and she did not look pleased.

"Sir, can you please rotate me out? Lord Miles is getting suspicious that I keep poking around about pirates." Lorelei asked.

"Absolutely not! He may be a pirate now, but he was once a Celestial Dragon! We need to keep an eye on his activities and you're the only member of CP0 who can handle this! Besides, you said you might be able to recruit that brat to help you, right? Someone with potential?" The voice on the other end stated.

Lorelei's lip quivered. "That's right, but I want to see my son and husband again." She weakly protested.

"Shut up! The fact you even actually fell in love and had a child on a mission is already a disgrace to the name of Cipher Pol! If it weren't for your ability to honeytrap people and create spy networks you'd have already been liquidated!" There was a small pause. "I had such high hopes for you, you know. To become a member of Aegis Zero, but looks like we'll have to put our hopes in that newbie, Lucci."

"He's only a child! You can't send him out already!" Lorelei protested.

"Too late. He's already dealt with the Hostage Crisis on Kamakuri Island" The voice said.

"Was he alright?" Lorelei asked hesitantly.

"His performance was... troublesome but the job was done. The pirates were eliminated, though Lucci did receive several injuries on the back." the voice relented.

Lorelei didn't speak for a few moments before finally asking what was on her mind. "Are we really the good guys? Sending children to fight for us and to recruit?" She asked.

There was a pause on the Den-Den Mushi. "This is why we are the Dark side of the World Government... If that is all, return to your mission." the voice said and hung up with a click.

"Damn it..." Lorelei said, putting down her receiver for a few seconds.

Seeing what I clearly wasn't supposed to have seen, I tried as best I could to stealthily sneak away from the doorway and return to my room. My situation was FAR more dangerous than I had realized, as I was being scouted by the maid I had a crush on and unless I played my cards right, I'd end up being either sold or kidnapped to become a slave of the world government, which definitely wasn't something I wanted.

"I know your there, Ramiel," Lorelei said as I froze on the spot.

Lorelei sighed and I could hear her walking to the door. It was no use trying to run away from her. I may have superhuman strength and a lightning logia, but I was unrefined in the usage of both. Besides, if she really was from CP0, then there was no way she wouldn't have been able to catch up with Soru or Geppo, plus from the fact she knew it was me, specifically rather than just 'someone' means she probably at least had basic Observation Haki.

'Shit' I thought as Lorelei opened the door to reveal herself standing tall and imposing in front of me. Her amber eyes looked down at me with a complicated expression, probably contemplating wether or not to just kill me now or not and what the consequences of that action would be.

"Come inside. We need to talk." She said coldly.
