Regret

Confusion and pain slammed on her face. He stared at her neck where the necklace hung. His look became more fierce, cold and deadly as he stared back at her.

"You're my biggest mistake Jane." He spoke in gritted teeth. "I never thought I'd say this to you, but I regret every single thing and every single day I have spent with you. I hate you Jane. The moment all this is over, I don't want to ever see that disgusting face of yours."

Jane didn't know how to react. Her body was too shocked by how he looked and how he spoke, that her eyes could not form a single tear. She so wanted to believe what she was hearing from him was not true, but judging by the deadly expression on his face, there was no other choice than to believe that he meant every single word gushing out from his mouth.

"Why do you hate me so much?" She finally manage to speak after finding her lost voice. "Why... why did your mood to me suddenly change? What did I ever do to you?" She asked those questions looking at him and tears raining down her eyes.

His lips curved up into a deadly smile. He held her chin with his finger and made her look at him. "I don't like questions baby girl." He said in a deep wicked voice.

She prayed in her heart that this was just one of her nightmares or he was just acting up. She wished she wasn't seeing right and that a witch must have cast some spell on her to make her see a complete different thing. However she tried to come up with one silly excuse, doubting what her eyes was seeing and what her ears were hearing, she somehow know that it was the reality displaying right before her eyes.

He turned his back at her but she was quick enough to hold his arms, preventing him from taking further steps.

"Fine. Don't answer my questions. But just answer one please...." She pleaded in a sad voice.

Deep within her soul and her body, there was a lot of questions filed up for him. She wanted to ask why they behaved the way they did earlier and why he was suddenly angry at her. But she have to give up those questions and ask this very important one.

He turned to her, still keeping his cold and deadly look.

"What is that?" His eyes were keenly fixed.

"Alder. Why...did they call you Alder?"

The room became dead quiet that even a drop of pin could be heard loud and clear if it touches the ground.

The question bugged her ever since she heard Della called him by that name instead of Francis. Her body was too terrified to ask the question at that moment. She even heard Felix screaming out that name angrily.

He took a step closer and leaned his face closer to hers until his hot breath fanned her face. His cold eyes never changing.

"Adler is my name, not Francis."

The world just stopped spinning for her. All this time, she had thought he was Francis. If he was Alder then why did he have to hid that away from her.

"But why did you....."

"One question Jane." His deep angry voice resonated in her ears.

She blinked her eyes in shock. 'Please tell me you didn't mean any word. Please tell me you're only putting on an act'. She cried inwardly. He turned his back on her and held on the door's knob when her voice echoed in his ears.

"I knew you weren't mine to keep.....but I loved you more than the numbers of stars in the sky. I loved you endlessly and I still do and will always do." She sniffed and wiped away the remnants of tears away from her face. "But if you hate me so much now. If I really disgust you to the core, then I guess....." Her lips wobbled inwardly and tears rolled down from her eyes. The words that were about leaving her mouth were too heavy and too heartbreaking, but to her, it was for the best. "I guess I have to let you go if...If it makes you happy." She held her chest and more tears rained down from her eyes.

Without a word or facing her, he left. She fell down on her knees crying her eyes out. At that moment she felt like she could die of a broken heart syndrome.

"I love you so much Francis. I love you...." The sound of her wailing flooded the room.

Even though this is all she ever wanted, even if it pained her that her love story have to end up like this, she was thankful and glad that it was him she fell in love with. All the memories she had made together with him will be taken to her to the grave. Nevertheless, she wished he really had loved her back in return.
