CHAPTER 1

As the soft music played and people glided across the floors of the warmly lit room, a slender body dressed in a black body con dress made its way to the large French doors of the balcony. Swiftly walking around all those who stood in her way, the woman grabbed the door handle and pushed them open. A gust of wind blew towards her, her long ebony unclipped hair swaying around her face. Walking right to the railing, she let the door softly close behind her.

She took a long breath to calm herself down. Jenna didn't know why she had come to this party. What she was hoping for. But here she was doing her best to avoid the man she had hoped to see. She didn't really want to talk to him or even meet him. She had just followed her heart when Nathan had mentioned that he would be here. She admitted that it was stupid of her to do so. But she had always been stupid when it came to him.

"and what do we have here?"

Jenna froze. That voice was like warm honey but it was the voice of the man she had been avoiding all night.

She heard the footsteps as the man made his way towards her. Jenna steeled herself. She couldn't avoid this. but if there was one thing when it came to their meetings it was that Jenna would always turn into a klutz. Like right now as she turned, not realising how close he was to her and her heel buckled under her out of shock causing her to start falling backwards.

She quickly grabbed onto the closest thing she could which happened to be his coat and pulled him towards her cursing under her breath. This was going to be so embarrassing. Or so she thought. But to her surprise, her descent stopped almost immediately as she felt his arm go around her waist. she opened her eyes, staring at his buttoned-up chest, quite shocked at the fact that she had pulled him with such force and yet the man had not so much as buckled. What was he? A mountain?

She looked up at him, confused. A mistake on her part. Because she was met with the full force of his ice blue eyed stare. How could anyone's eyes look so cold and hot at the same time, she would never understand.

She quickly looked away. "I am sorry." She said, as she tried to push away from him. she couldn't. because he was holding her captive quite effortlessly.

"you can let go now." Jenna said, trying to sound as calm as possible.

"hmm…" she heard him hum. "I could." But he made no effort to let go.

"then you should." Jenna said with a bit of a bite. This time she looked up at him, right in the eyes, her stare cold.

Something akin to amusement shined in his eyes as he said, "I should." But again, did not let her go.

Jenna narrowed her eyes. "do you find this amusing?"

He squinted a tad bit. "do you not?"

This time Jenna put a bit more force as she tried to push him away. "no I don't."

He instantly released her.

"such a shame."

Jenna quickly stepped away from him and straightened her dress.

"what are you doing here all alone?" she heard him ask as he pulled out a cigarette.

"cooling down." Jenna replied as she side eyed him. "until you came that is."

He chuckled. "now that's one way of saying you find me hot."

Jenna held back the urge to roll her eyes. "who doesn't find Marshall Wayne attractive." She said with pleasant voice. This she hoped would satisfy the man's ego and let her leave his presence immediately.

She saw his smile drop. Then it was back up again. but this time, it was off. Almost fake.

"want to spend some time with this attractive man?" he asked smoothly as he took a swig of his now lit cigarette.

Jenna gave him a smile. "I'll have to pass. My fiancé is on the opposite side of this door, searching for me. I should get back to him."

She quickly turned but stopped on her way back as she heard him say, "for someone who is already engaged, isn't it a bit too much to openly admit to finding another man attractive?"

Jenna closed her eyes. Like this man had any right to say that. she turned on her heels, this time without tripping and said with a bright smile, "yes, it is. So what? Think of me as a slut then." Then her smile dropped at the speed of light as she glared at him one last time and turned around making her way to the man who was standing in the middle of the room, looking around.

Marshall stared after her wide eyed. What was that? and who was that? Marshall had seen this girl walk to the balcony alone from his seat at the corner table and decided on a whim to go after her. He hadn't seen her face. But her dress hugged her well in all the right places and he liked that so he had chosen to talk to her. He didn't know what he was expecting. Well, he was surprised for sure. the woman was entertaining to say the least. And a pleasant face was just a bonus. The woman was attractive no doubt. Long straight dark hair on such a pale skin made her hazel eyes stand out. Not to mention how perfectly her body fit against his. He felt like he remembered that. that touch.

Marshall was intrigued now. A slut she said. Why had she been so harsh. He had not even done anything yet to warrant such hostility. Or had he? He tried to recall if he had seen this woman before. But he couldn't remember.

Well then the next time they meet, having her under him in a bed wouldn't be so bad now would it he thought as he pushed his fingers through his dark blond hair. He could try and figure out who she was as he played with the strands of her hair.

"are you okay?"

Jenna snapped out of her thoughts. The car had stopped. She looked out the window and saw her house.

Shaking her head she replied to Nathan. "yeah. Just a bit tired."

Nathan smiled at her. "have some rest. We'll meet tomorrow."

Jenna nodded and made her way out of the car. When she reached at her porch she turned around and waved a bye to Nathan who nodded at her and left. Jenna sighed. She really did feel tired.

She slowly made her way inside the house and went straight upstairs walking towards the last door at the end of the corridor.

But before she could grab hold of the handle the door flew open and there stood the cutest nine-year-old boy in the world.

"and why are you still awake Mathew?" she asked, her tone mock scolding.

"cause I was waiting for you Mumma." Said the boy as he hugged her around her waist. Jenna smiled and kissed his hair as she hugged him back.
