WASTED LUCAS

Her face flushed red. She looked up at him. "You have to leave now." She said, through gritted teeth.

"What’s wrong? Are you ashamed of me?" he inquired.

"It’s not that please leave. I will talk to you at home okay." She said, staring at him with pleading eyes, but he didn’t want to leave. He moved closer to her and grasped her waist, pinning her closer to the elevator wall with her hand on his chest.

"What are you doing? My employees are literally staring at us." she muttered.

"I don’t care. Do you think I came here just to give you your lunch? I came to ask you out. I won’t take no for an answer," he stated. Her face flushed. She wanted to hang out with Mason afterwards, and Xavier was making things hard for her. He studied her facial expressions.

"Don’t tell me you are thinking of saying no to me. Without me, your life will be boring." he muttered. Her lips curled into a sneer. He was thinking highly of himself now that he had a ring on his finger.

"I don’t have time for this. I need to get to work." She said and removed his hand from her waist, pushing him out of the elevator. The employees were still watching them and it got her pissed.

"What are you guys staring at? Don’t you have work to do? Get out!" She screamed at them, and they scattered and went to their different working stations. Amber glared at them, putting her left hand on her waist with a death stare.

"You are so scary. I am taking you out tonight on a date. Don’t forget." He beamed and started walking away.

"I don’t intend on going back home tonight." She said under her breath and walked into the elevator holding the lunch box. She wanted to call Peter and scold him about why he allowed Xavier to bring her food to her.

She arrived at her office and placed the lunch box on her desk, sighing, when her secretary knocked on the already open door.

"May I come in?" he asked.

"Come in, is something the matter?" She asked and noticed he was carrying a bunch of files and holding a bottle of perfume in his mouth. She quickly took it from his mouth.

"Why do you go through all this stress to bring everything to me all at once?" she complained. He dropped the files on the table.

"I have something to take care of at home, so…I.." he paused, looking down. He was scared she wouldn’t grant him leave. She took off her suit jacket and hung it behind her seat. She sat on the seat and started dragging the files towards her. The first one was a business idea from one of her employees on how to expand her company within the city.

"You were saying?" She asked and raised her head. She knew what he wanted, but she wanted him to say it.

"I…I have to leave a little early today. I promise I will make it up to you. I will come early to work tomorrow. I will…" she cut in.

"Stop! I get you. Stop talking and go where you want to go, but don’t be late tomorrow," she declared.

"Thanks, boss." He beamed, smiling brightly, and she returned the smile. He arranged some files on the desk.

"I will get you a coffee before I leave," he said.

"Don’t bother, just ask Lucas to bring it to me," she said.

"He hasn’t left his office since the morning do you think…" she cut in.

"Just tell him," she declared. He nodded and walked out of the office. Lucas was in his office. His table was empty. There were only bottles of alcohol on the table. His computer was also gone. There was a cigarette in between his fingers.

Amber’s secretary arrived at the door of Lucas's office. He was about to knock on the door when he noticed a "Do not disturb." sign at the door, and there was smoke escaping from the bottom of the door.

He pushed the door open and fixed his eyes on Lucas, who was smoking with his legs crossed on his desk. His jaw dropped. He started coughing due to the smoke that was getting into his nostrils. He didn’t know Lucas could smoke. Lucas’s eyes were closed as he smoked, so he didn’t notice Amber’s secretary was in the room. The secretary crinkled his nose and walked closer to his desk. There was a glass of water next to the bottles.

"Manager Lucas! What are you doing? Are you here to work or drink? This isn’t a club." He complained, pushing the empty bottles to the ground. They landed on the floor and broke into a million pieces, but Lucas still didn’t react to him.

"Lucas!" he screamed. He had lost his respect for him. He grabbed the glass of water and turned around, pouring it on Lucas’s head. The water was cold. Lucas froze on the spot with his eyes wide open as the cold water drifted down his hair, landing on his clothes.

He quickly stood up and tossed the wet cigarette at him.

"Hey! Who gave you permission to come in here? Didn’t you see the do not disturb sign at the door?" Lucas asked, forming in anger.

"I saw it. Miss Darlington asked you to get coffee for her," he said, attempting to walk out of the office.

"Coffee? Do I look like an errand boy? I am here to work, not run errands for her? Why does she have you?" He ranted.

"She wants you this time. You need to be fast," he said, and walked out of the office. Lucas was feeling frustrated. His eyes were twitching.

"Fuck!" He yelled, pushing his box of cigarettes to the floor.

"How am I supposed to know her favourite coffee? I will just buy her all the things in the store that will do." he groaned, running his hand through his hair, with gritted teeth still staring at the bottles.
