"You're late."
Just by listening, Gin knew that the instructor was angry and he felt sorry for it. Thus, he decided to just tell the truth.
"I'm sorry," Gin apologized calmly, "I'm a bit lost in directions, you see."
The man frowns upon hearing a strange answer before scoffing, "Yeah, right. Kid, if you will make excuses next time, try something more convincing ok?"
'But... it is the truth...' Gin mused inwardly as he looked at the man with his head tilted slightly on the side.
Gin then answered annoyingly, "For a moment, is there a scheduled time to attend a class?"
"..."
The man thought about it for a second, understanding that there was nothing like that.
Sensing that he made a mistake, he decided to switch the topic, "Kuhum, coming here without a bow, looks like you've attended a wrong class kid. I see, your lie seems a bit true now."
'Oy, oy, what's wrong with this guy?' Gin thought inwardly as he watch the man with a frown, 'Is this where the bullying starts or this guy is having a bad day that he wanted to vent his anger at me?'
"Can I come in now? Or not, instructor Hans Treen," Gin asked sternly while glancing his eyes at the name tag of the instructor.
At that moment, the man name Hans removed his frown as it was replaced with a cheeky smile, "Pft, sure. Go inside newbie. Sit wherever you want."
'Ugh, this guy is just messing with me. Hey, why me...?' Gin mused inwardly before he enters inside and find a place for him to sit.
After sitting down in a place where no one will bother him, Gin decided to look around the archer class and saw that everything that belonged to archery is there. He looked for more and saw that some guy continued to laugh while eyeing him.
Gin was familiar with those guys as when he goes inside, those people continued to laugh. Even when he entered the class, it was the same guys who keep laughing.
They only stop laughing as soon as Hans stepped on the front, picking a bow on the ground and showed the weapon to the newbies.
Hans checked the string of his bow by plucking it. Doing it three times, Hans nodded seeing that it was strong before he swiftly gets an arrow on his quiver and shoots it at the target on his front.
The arrow was shot in the middle. It was perfect.
Hans glanced half of his head and speak, "Just because a certain someone said that he lost his direction to this class, that doesn't mean I'll tell the whole lesson again. I will continue I left off so listen carefully."
"Yes, instructor!"
Everyone enthusiastically shouted, except for Gin, who remained quiet.
After hearing the reply, Hans proceed to teach the newbies as he began to speak various things, starting from the basics ones, proper holding of the bow, and many more.
Time quickly passed and everyone was carefully listening to Hans's lessons. Even Gin was listening intently as information that he hadn't heard of was being discussed in front of him.
Still, Gin is being bothered by the thing he saw at Hans's eyes turning dark when he was entering here. He thought it was his imagination first but it was real as while Hans discussed, his eyes were never darkened throughout the whole time.
'Looks like he also has some eyes ability.' Gin concluded that it was the case, 'I should check it later.'
Gin was deeply thinking about it that it made him heedless about his surroundings. He couldn't even hear that he was being called by someone.
"Masked Guy!" Hans shouted loudly this time but it was also the time that Gin snapped back.
Gin scratches his head annoyingly and cursed the man inwardly, 'Just play with somebody else, geez. What the hell is wrong with you?'
Seeing Gin's body expression, Hans squinted his eyes before saying, "It's time to show me what you've learned from just listening."
Hans paused as he pointed his finger at the target, "Demonstrate how to shoot a target that has a range of a hundred meters."
Hans wanted to test Gin if he really has a talent and he wanted to confirm it now. Colton was even vouching for him which is unlikely of himself.
"Why me?" Gin asked, didn't even hide his annoyance at the words.
"Uhm, because I said so?" Hans stated with a tone of obviousness, "Quickly stand up and shoot, masked guy."
Gin was left stupefied for a moment as he was reluctant to stand, but he did it anyway and is afraid that Hans would really likely be angry if he didn't follow this time.
Slowly standing up from his place, someone interjected the two as if he was waiting for the moment.
"How about I do it, instructor Treen?" A man spoke as he stand up, attracting everyone's attention.
The man continued. "My occupation is an archer and I think I'm born to be an archer. Speaking of born, that is what I felt after I was summoned to this world. Hence, I think it is right for me to do it."
Gin shivered hearing those cringe words, and can't help but moved his head to look at the man.
He had that kind of face that could attract everyone's attention but it wasn't a face that could match. In terms of good-looking faces between Gin and him, they are the same but that's the only thing they had in similar.
"Go for it, boss!"
"We know that you will not disappoint us!"
"Yeah!"
"Go! Go!"
His confident voice was being followed up by the cheers behind his back, which is somewhat familiar to Gin. It was the same people who were laughing at him earlier.
Thinking about it for a moment, an answer quickly appeared inside Gin's head as he mused, 'I see… So, that's how it is.'
Hans looked at him with uninterested eyes before he asked, "You're quite popular, huh. Your name?"
"Travis, Teacher Hans. Travis Collin." The man named Travis said with respect.
Hans nodded and said. "I see. then you two can shoot together."
Listening to the two, Gin was left dumbfounded as he heard Hans say they could shoot together when only Travis could do it.
'if you have a problem with me, say it on my face, you damn instructor... What is even wrong with you...?' Gin mused inwardly as he glared Hans in the eyes.
As he continued to look, Gin has a sudden thought that quite shocked him, 'I see... Is this guy trying to ruin my stay here and all because I'm late?! Shit, it's just petty reason. This guy is just trying to humiliate me. T-this teacher... I'm not planning to show off just to make your plan fail.'
He completely misunderstands him.
"Uhm, what are you waiting for?" Hans asked as he pointed his finger at the room, "Go there to arm yourself."
The two followed his finger before giving a nod. They walked towards the room side by side and they didn't even try to converse with each other.
They entered the room and prepare themselves.
Inside the room, Gin picked up a bow to shoot and some arrows. He only prepared a bit and as he was doing it, he heard someone talking to him.
"I'm sorry if the door is locked, someone said to lock it. You know who is it?" Travis spoke with an impassive tone.
When Gin entered the class, Travis became intrigued by him. He first observe him until his curiosity died down. Throughout the whole time observing, Travis felt and saw nothing that could make his interest piqued.
'This guy is weak as hell.' Travis mused inwardly as he looked at Gin with an expressionless face, 'The only thing you could be interested in him was his mask. That's such a waste.'
"Hey, aren't you curious about it?" Travis asked but this time, with a slight annoyance.
"No," Gin flatly answered, 'Curios my ass. I know it is you who ordered, bastard.'
Travis continued, "Hey, can I ask you something? Just listen. I'm ordering you because seeing your attitude, the 'please listen' wouldn't work."
'At least you're right.' Gin mused as he formed a faint smile, 'Sure, let me listen to you as you wouldn't let me out here in the first place.'
Gin saw Travis blocking the way out, as this was probably what he was aiming for. He was already done preparing but he needed to pretend because of that reason.
"Ok, can you fail miserably in our shooting?" Travis smiled as he requested calmly, "You see, I'm planning to join the rookie's group and be part of them."
Even though he was only pretending, Gin stopped himself in his position hearing the word rookies, which made Travis smile even more as it was his first time seeing Gin respond strongly to his call.
I mean, who wouldn't join them when they're the strongest group inside the stadium?
Travis thought that Gin was also planning on also doing it, as everybody does while using different methods but he is wrong.
'Join Nash? But, we are already balanced. This guy is hopeless.' Gin thought inwardly as he moved his head to look Travis in the eyes.
Travis smiled even more, seeing Gin looking at him before saying, "So you do know that there are benefits joining them, at least you have a brain. I like it."
"..."
"So, how about it?" Travis asked, feeling that his goal was slowly building up, "Act like you fail really hard and I'll show them how good am I?"
Gin listened carefully as he thought, 'So, in other words, this guy is planning to show off for him to spread his name. He was only starting and this moment... is a beautiful chance.'
Gin smiled, 'This is good. I can use this guy to make the Seats think that I'm not the archer they fought with at the tutorial.
Gin holds his chin, 'But hey, maybe I could squeeze this guy about something towards his pointless goal. Hmm, you need something that can buy me, Travis.'
Gin brings down his chin before sitting down on a bench beside him, saying, "What do I get from it?"
Travis heard he was interested, bringing his bow down on the side as he looked at Gin, 'At least this guy knows what he's doing.'
Travis let out a fake cough, "You know many benefits of it, right? Fame, power, etc. Now, let's look at the future. I was planning to make my own personal group and with you being the leader on it. Pretty good, right?"
Travis paused as he began to touch his face, "You see this face? I'm quite handsome, right? In the future, I'll share some women with you. Really, any woman I acquired. But, Kisha is mine ok? Of course, you can get the other girls but Kisha is mine, got it? See, you can tell how good it is, right?"
"..."
Travis thought he brought out good benefits to him, seeing him was being silent when in reality, Gin felt disgusted by it.
'This guy is something else. A total scumbag.' Gin's thought inwardly as his opinion about Travis goes downhill, 'Wake up. When it comes to women, Nash already defeated us. Two people are already in love with him while the other two was being developed. It's what I think.'
Gin began to stand up and walked towards the exit where Travis was standing, who thought that he would be shaking hands with him as an agreement but to his surprise, he just passed by him.
"When making a deal, try something more enticing. For example, like a few golds as a down payment. And another thing..." Gin paused as he glanced half of his head at Travis,
"You are a disgusting piece of shit."
…
Two people were standing two meters away from each other. They properly position themselves, looking at their target that has a distance of a hundred meters. They were only waiting for Hans's orders.
"You go first," Hans spoke as he looked at Travis.
"Ok instructor," Travis said while glancing his eyes at Gin. 'This masked guy... I'll show you the reason to not mess with me.'
Travis smiled as he let out a calm breath. With a composed expression, he gets an arrow on his quiver and puts it on the string, raising the bow up after with the string being stretched out.
With one eye closed, Travis concentrates them the other at the target. Feeling confident, he let the string go and the arrow flew in a straight line.
Whoosh!
All the newbies watching clapped their hands even Hans was slightly impressed, as the arrow has been hit in the middle.
On the other hand, Gin also watched it but he wasn't impressed. He let out a yawn from his mouth and just wanted this demonstration to end.
"Your positioning and accuracy are both already good. 100 points." Hans evaluated Travis highly as he give him a nod.
"You're next mask guy." Hans paused and moved his head at Gin, "Before that, can you tell me your name? I hate calling you masked guy every time."
Gin glanced, "Just call me masked guy then."
"..."
Hans became quite annoyed by the answer he received, but he quickly disregard it when Gin continued.
"My name is Gin, instructor. Just Gin." Gin spoke calmly before slightly focusing himself on the target.
'Hmm, since a hundred must be the overall score, I should at least get a half of it.' Gin thought inwardly as he decided to do it.
Gin clumsily positions himself and even the arrow he grab had fallen. He picked it up with small giggles coming from the students.
Hans didn't mind and as he continued to observe Gin.
Suddenly, a whistle could be heard from Travis but nobody minded him. They were focusing on Gin to see if he would also pull something like Travis.
Gin slowly raised his bow up when all of a sudden, he could hear his bow produce low cracking sounds. He clearly heard it but he didn't mind it, as he procced to shoot the arrow to end this.
But at the same time he releases the arrow, the weapon suddenly breaks, leading the arrow to miss the target. The arrow didn't even fly as it just falls to the ground.
The sound of the whistle was also gone.
The newbies were silent as they watch the bow break. They looked at the weapon first before they looked at Gin, ridiculing him for the demonstration he showed.
Gin didn't heed those ridicule as he silently looked at the bow intently. It literally broke. He was left stupified, making the newbies laugh even more.
'I was trying to lose but... I learn something from here yet again. Is my bad luck is good in disguise?'
Gin dropped his bow before turning his body to look at the newbies, who thought that he would be saying petty excuses that it's not his fault or similar to that but it didn't happen.
To their surprise, they saw Gin raising his hand up to the air like he was surrendering.
Gin let out a small chuckle and said, "I surrender. looks like even the bow hated me. Well, it's not really a bad thing as I learn something from it."
He slowly unequipped himself as he continued, "Anyway, I'll leave for the class today. For a moment, this is not quitting. I think I needed to do something outside."
He removed the safeties on his arms as he slowly walks at the door, "Instructor Hans. I know you're an incredible teacher but may I excuse myself to go somewhere? Thank you."
He held the doorknob before glancing at his back one last time, "For that certain someone who did this, I'm thankful. I've been enlightened."
Gin slowly opened the door and exits the room in a calm manner, even though it was making everyone become dumbfounded.
The newbies inside really felt like he was really happy about something, leaving them even more dumbfounded.
For some reason, he felt really grateful about it.
