Chapter 1Level 0

**Authors note***

*There is now a chapter before this to give readers a better understanding of what is happening. Please enjoy!*

"Where am I?"

Vain had just woken up in a room with several spaces to exit the room that lead out into rooms that seemed to be extremely similar to the current room. The room had mono-yellow wallpaper with an office space look, and cheap carpet covering all the floors.

Getting up Vain got to feel how uncomfortably moist the carpet under him was. All he could do was wonder what got him here, "Did someone drug me?"

After nearly five minutes of laying against a slightly damp wall, bits and pieces of what just happened start popping into Vain's head. "I did something... Then? The ground disappeared? Then I fell for how long? Dark? Time? Doesn't matter now I guess."

With a small sigh, Vain knew it was pointless to continue to think more about it since all he could remember now are pointless things that can't truly explain what has happened to him. He could now pay more attention to his surroundings making the fluorescent lights' loud buzzing distractingly apparent. Vain felt if he listened to this sound for too long he most likely would just go insane. Checking his phone he realized that there was no signal and it appeared to work the same way as if he was in the forest with all the same uses as before except for calling and wifi.

After a quick thought about going insane just standing there, Vain quickly started to explore the connecting rooms. Every room seemed to be almost the same with the only difference being the length and width and height of the rooms. As Vain kept walking he saw all the rooms seemed to be the same design with mono-yellow walls, wet carpet, and the buzz of the fluorescent lights. The sizes ranged from 50 meters wide to only half a meter wide, while the length Vain had seen was from 100 meters to again only half a meter. While entering every room it appeared to be the same as the last until the body fully entered a room did the size become known. Vain also tried to go back to the way he came but the only thing he saw when he went back was a completely different room with the same style.

Vain had no choice but to keep walking in almost one direction hoping to find something. Past almost a hundred rooms Vain could only see the same things with the only real changes being the rare cases of a damaged wall from either water damage or some type of damage caused by what appeared to be a tool like an ax or maybe a pickaxe.

The only thing that Vain could think about was to count the rooms as a distraction from the mind-numbing buzzing sound that seemed to be haunting him.

Only after 158 rooms since Vain started to count did a room ahead change into a grey room with a small table in the center. Unlike before the room's size did not seem to be the same as the room he was in. The room appeared to be made of cement all around besides an old wooden table with no other exits besides the way to enter. With a small pause before entering Vain knew this was his only choice so he stepped into it.

The room was about 2x2 meters with a piece of paper on the wooden table and some wooden chairs. Without the loud buzz that seemed to be going on throughout everywhere, Vain felt the tiredness that he hadn't paid attention to come all over him. He immediately realized that he had walked for almost an entire day! Taking out his phone for the first time since he had just arrived he realized it has been about 16 hours since he arrived. With a tired smile, he checked the room and made sure that the old wooden chair could carry his weight, and sat down heavily. Finally taking a rest after nonstop walking vain felt as if he could fall asleep right then and there.

Vain looked out of the room where the mono-yellow rooms were that seemed to keep changing sizes.

Taking a look around the room there was only the table and seven chairs spread around the room but all pointing towards the table at the center of everything. At the center, the table had three pieces of paper that all had the bold name of 'M.E.G.' with the first paper reading, "Welcome to the Backrooms traveler! You have arrived at the Manila room on level 0. If you are new here we at M.E.G are here to show you how to no-clip and reach the safe level 1! You may no-clip here in the Manila room or anywhere on level 0 to reach level 1. Here is the method below."

Below the words were some drawings of a person doing strange movements at the edge of a wall and then proceeding to fall through the ground and arrive at a different place. Looking at the movements Vain remembered that he did something similar before ending up in this strange place.

The next page was from the same organization with bold 'M.E.G.' on the top of the paper reading, "So if you have learned the way to no-clip then you are free to enter level 1! We will now give a better explanation for all travelers to not go insane here. You see we have all gone into some space that is now called the backrooms by most of the people here and we want you to think of this world to be like an exploration video game that has given all players only one chance to survive and explore this new world.

Now there are many entities that wander the other levels, but only on level 0 are there no entities. The only problem is that there are no supplies available which make all bases in this place almost impossible. The greatest problem with bases here is that the buzz of the lights makes one's mental state deteriorate, and it is impossible to ever meet other people here. We also like to inform all that the liquid in the carpet is toxic to drink and the only liquid that has been for sure safe to drink is almond water and soy milk. Only these two substances are truly safe to drink without worry.

Now that the most important pieces of information have been told for the main level we shall now tell you about the entities that we have mentioned and their dangers. All entities you encounter at level 1 are hostile and will attack on-site, while there is one that isn't completely hostile, it is suggested that you find a human and have them direct you to the 'Hub' where you may then find the nearest M.E.G. base to gain a better understanding of the new world.

Firstly level 0 feels like a monotone office feeling, but level 1 has a warehouse feeling with the cement floors sometimes changing into grass or sand on rare occasions. Most of the time it is all cement and there is a faint fog up to knee height that thickens and thins at different sections. This fog may condense into puddles of almond water which is safe to drink. There will also be crates found on this level, if you hear strange sounds coming from a create then you must back away and avoid this create, for it is most likely containing an entity. If there is no sound we suggest you search them for supplies for that is the main source of food and water for level 1.

We hope you make it safely. M.E.G"

The last page only held drawings of a few different creatures and how to deal with them. The first one was a Scratcher, depicting a skinny humanoid figure that had long nails like claws, with small words below it, "If you hear a scratching sound then back away slowly and make sure not to make a sound while you retreat. If you are found then throw something in the opposite direction and run and hope you don't get killed."

Skin Stealer was depicted with a naked human body that was slightly lumpy, written next were the words, "If you see a humanoid figure say a weird phrase that no one would say, and if it copies you then run or shoot whatever weapon you have if you have the confidence that you could kill it, otherwise hope it is satisfied and doesn't attack for that reason. If someone says a weird phrase to you then say hello I just arrived and I'm human."

The second to last was a drawing labeled Hound looking like a human was made into a dog without changing much about the human but the shape even not having any tail. The words below said, "If seen stare them down and get a weapon ready otherwise they will attack on sight. If you have no weapon just hope you can run and see a door labeled hub before you are attacked."

The Last picture had a regular adult human that would look completely normal if not for the fact that the face looked like the skin had grown over it. The words below said, "Safe and helpful but mute. Will attack if attacked."
