After taking a shower, I had sat to drown my sorrow in a geek marathon as I usually did. I’d been ignoring calls and texts from various people all day, and had finally turned off my phone, so I wasn’t all that surprised when just after seven my doorbell rang. Probably Ruby and possibly even Victor with her.
As I walked to my door I thought about ignoring it, but Ruby rarely allowed herself to be ignored, so I opened the door.
Casey.
I stepped back.
His smile was tentative. “Hi, Seth. Can I come in?” And then he did without waiting for my response. He took the door out of my hand and shut it behind him. “I came to pick you up.”
“Pick me up?”
“For tonight. Did you pack a bag?”
I must have looked stupid standing there staring at him like he’d grown an extra head. “I, um, I didn’t think, well, that we were still doing that.”
“Why not?”
“We didn’t talk about it at work today.”
