The minute I stepped past the threshold of the restaurant where Ruby worked I decided I had made a huge mistake. If it was Casey with some other guy then what exactly was I going to do about it? Nothing. He could see who he wanted and all it was going to do was break myheart. Still, I guessed, if he didn’t want the sort of relationship I was interested in, maybe it was best to find out now. And anyway, it was too soon to think like that, right?
I was a complete mess.
Ruby practically pounced on me the minute I was inside so I knew she had been watching for me. “Come on, this way, so he doesn’t see you.”
She led me past a little alcove, then to a little side room they used for large parties. It was empty now and dark, but you could see into most of the rest of the restaurant through a little arched window. Ruby pulled me down below the opening.
