Chapter 46: Toa- no toads

Jiraiya took care of a few things and then prepared himself, he had a lot to tell Naruto, he only hoped that the kid would forgive him.

Naruto arrived at the forest where Jiraiya agreed to meet him, with Jiraiya already waiting there.

Jiraiya sighed deeply, "Look kid, I know I agreed to train you but if you change your mind after what I tell you I won't blame you." Jiraiya didn't allow Naruto to reply before he continued, "I have no excuses for what I am about to tell you, and I can only ask you to forgive me but I was entrusted by your father to take care of you if anything happened to you and I was chosen to be your godfather."

Naruto's eyes remained unchanging as Jiraiya spoke.

"After the death of your parents I needed some time away from anything that reminded me of them and that included you, I was quite stupid all those years ago and I still am, I used my responsibilities as Konoha's spymaster to escape from you but if you can forgive me then I promise that I will try to do better and I can only hope you don't hate me for it," Jiraiya said.

A long and painful silence followed.

Naruto wanted to hate the man, he really did, but he understood the pain that Jiraiya was feeling, and even if he wanted to hate him he wouldn't gain anything from hating Jiraiya, Naruto knew what it was like to lose someone and the Gamer's Mind made him realize that hating Jiraiya would be a stupid thing to do.

But that did not mean he forgave him, what Jiraiya said was true, Naruto would need time to forgive the man, while he wouldn't hate him he wouldn't suddenly consider Jiraiya as family, when Fugaku approached Naruto he was the third person to show real kindness to Naruto, and while Naruto knew it was a bit of a stupid reason he immediately considered the man as family, but that wouldn't be possible with Jiraiya, only time would tell whether Naruto would forgive him or not.

With a deep sigh, Naruto started talking, "I won't forgive you, but I also won't hate you, there is no reason for me to hate you, while you may have disappointed me and the wish of my dying father it is not up to me to hate you for it, but you will have to work damn hard if you want me to forgive you." Naruto said with a bitter smile.

Jiraiya smiled, it seemed like what the Hokage told him was true, Naruto wouldn't hate someone unnecessarily.

Jiraiya sighed in relief "Very well my student, let's get to training shall we?" Jiraiya said as he walked to the river that ran through the forest.

Jiraiya ran through a few signs and slammed his hand on the ground while shouting "Summoning Jutsu!"

In a poof of smoke, he appeared sitting on top of a large toad.

"The first thing that I will teach you will be summoning," Jiraiya said.

He grabbed the large scroll on his back and unfurled it, Naruto read a total of 5 names in the scroll the first three being written in a style that he had never seen before making the name unrecognizable, while the other two were written in a more recent style of writing.

The first read Jiraiya, and the second Namikaze Minato.

"If you write your name here and put your handprint on it with blood you will be contracted to the toads which both I and your father are contracted to," Jiraiya said.

Naruto had a question though, "If I sign this contract will I be able to sign any other ones?" Naruto asked.

Jiraiya shook his head "No you won't be able to, if you want to make another contract that would mean you are betraying your original summoning clan, that would make any other summoning clan be put off by you meaning you would most likely never be accepted by someone else, not even the snakes of Ryuchi Cave would accept you." Jiraiya said.

"Then I am afraid that I will have to decline, I have already found a summoning scroll, but I am currently too weak to make a contract with them so I will only be able to do that in the future, I would love to make a contract with the toads but that would mean that I won't be able to make another contract in the future so I must apologize but I will have to decline," Naruto said.

Jiraiya nodded, Minato had actually offered his student Kakashi to sign a contract with the toads but Kakashi had also chosen to make a contract with a different clan so he respected Naruto's decision.

"Well that does throw a bit of a wrench into my plans but it's fine, how good are you at controlling the Kyuubi's chakra?" Jiraiya asked as he unsummoned the toad.

"I am quite good at it, B, the Jichuriki of Kumo praised my control over the Bijuu Chakra and said that I am really good at it," Naruto said a bit smugly, it wasn't every day that you would be praised by an S rank ninja after all.

Jiraiya looked at Naruto's smug face and got annoyed again, it seemed like the kid didn't really need much help to win the Chunin exams.

"Well kid, there is only 1 thing I can do to help you out with the Kyuubi and that is open the seal that your father put on it, he told me to give you the key to it once you were ready, he also gave me a letter to give to you once I give you the key to the seal.

Jiraiya summoned another toad this time which spit out a small scroll.

"This is the message he gave me, I haven't read it so it is up to you to read it," Jiraiya said.

Naruto opened the scroll and read what it said.

'Hello there, Naruto, if you are reading this it means that I am most likely dead and I've sealed the Kyuubi in you, I only sealed the yang half of it into you, to get the other part of the Kyuubi you need to figure out a way to access the reaper of death itself as I sealed myself and half of the Kyuubi's soul within its stomach when you unlock the seal with the key I gave to Jiraiya you will meet a part of my and your mother's chakra, the chakra only has a limited amount of time so prepare all the questions you want answered beforehand. I need to go now, bye, Naruto."

Naruto smiled, he needed to research seals about generating chakra and keeping chakra constructs alive it seems.
