Chapter two: First brawl

A fight? I say with a surprised look on my face.

I knew that you would be shocked but, this is the only way to unlock your true potential and also, here is a book about other time magicians and their various skills. You can use this book to learn a skill or two before the fight and your opponent is going to be me. She said with a grin on her face.

Hmmm, I mutter while sighing to myself.

And I hope you are at least familiar with weapons, she added while narrowing her eyebrows.

At least that's something. Also, I will need to get principal Nath permission for us to use the training field. And if you don't mind, you can wait for me in my office.

Since I had a few minutes to spare before the match, I decided to go through the book. At least I should learn a skill before the match, I say to myself.

After reading a few pages, I decided to come up with a new skill using the principle of other time magic skills as the skills in the book won't support my fighting style.

Although it took a lot of time I finally formulated a new magic skill but, I wasn't sure if it was going to work as it had never been tested.

So I stood up and followed her. After walking for a few minutes, we arrived at the training field.

Well, this is our training field. Miss Tasha announced. It is about 50 feet long and 30 feet wide and it has a magical barrier that is about 80 feet high and you can fight with all your strength and by that I mean you can kill your opponent.

Kill? I asked with shock.

Ohoo, I forgot to mention that the field contains extreme magic so you basically respawn after you get killed.

Better, I say with my face loosening up a bit.

Okay shall we, she said while pointing at the field.

Definitely, I answered while trying to make my face as courageous as possible.

So this are the rules. You are not allowed to surrender and the match can only end after killing your opponent and the total duration of the match is thirty minutes.

Suddenly, a screen showing the amount of seconds left before the match begin.

Water spikes. Suddenly, a water circle ring appeared on miss Tasha left palm. Then, she faced her palm at me and then suddenly, a huge amount of water in the form of spikes rushed towards me.

Shit, I say while activating my katana. Although, I was used to fighting with a katana, I was not sure if I could beat her as she had fought against the monsters before retiring to become a teacher.

Hmmm, I wasn't expecting that but, I have the experience that you don't have. Ice frost, she says while forming another magic circle.

Suddenly, all the water spikes turned into ice spikes.

Although I managed to cut some of the ice, I still got hit on my stomach.

Argh, I say as I spat out the tiny ounce of blood from my mouth. I didn't believe that those ice could do a lot of damage.

But still, she didn't stop there.

Ice fist, I heard her say.

Suddenly, a huge ice fist weighing about 78 kg appeared out of nowhere and hit me on my face.

Gah, I mutter to myself. Although I sensed the attack coming, I couldn't react as I was still weak after I got hit by the ice spikes.

Seems like you don't deserve to be a time magician. We are still in the fifth minute and you're already worn out. Miss Tasha said with rage in her eyes.

Even though I was already exhausted, I decided not to go down without a fight.

Time barrier, I mutter.

Hmm, she said with a confused look.

Suddenly, a blue light enveloped my body for a few seconds before it vanished. Although it seemed as if nothing had happened, I still charged towards her with my katana.

Realizing this, miss Tasha charged another attack towards me. But this time, I dogged the attack.

What, it's like he predicted the direction at with my attack was going to come from.

Then with all my strength, I slashed part of her right foot with my katana before my skill got disabled.

Even though my attack didn't cause any potential damage, she was in a state of shock. What the heck was that? She asked.

Time barrier, I said with great excitement. Well, it's based on the principle of time loop. But, unlike the time loop, I could move into the future for a few seconds thereby predicting my opponent next attack.

Hmmm, when I was at your level, I couldn't even perform a simple skill. With this progress of yours, I believe you should be one of the greatest magicians to ever live. Anyway, we would discuss about this later but for now, let's focus on our match.

Suddenly, the water spear turned into an ice spear.

Realizing that she was going to attack me, I activated my time barrier again.

Am not going to fall for same trick twice, she yelled.

Although I wasn't sure if this skill would work on her this time, I decided to still use it.

Good luck Rick, I whispered to myself.

Hmmm, I feel he is up to something but, I am sure that he can't use that magic skill for too long as he is only in level one and I can use this to my advantage.

Hey Rick, let's see if you can handle my next attack.

Even though I could go into the future for a while, I wasn't sure if my time barrier would last long enough for me to attack her as the distance between us was quite wide. So I created a plan b which is to make her believe I am going to attack her, making her switch from defense to offensive giving me a chance to easily lure her out and then strike.

Ice bullets. Now let see how good you are, she said with a grin on her face.

Suddenly, all the water in the atmosphere turned into tiny bullets trapping me in the middle of the field.

Shit, this is a very bad situation and I need to get out of here as soon as possible.

Water blades. Suddenly, two magic rings appeared on her both palms. Execute, she said with a stern voice.

Afterwards, I felt about a thousand bullet and blades piercing through my body.

Gah, I said while breathing my last breath. But after like a second or so, my body suddenly respawn as my consciousness starts to return into my body.

Anyway, I win. I heard miss Tasha say while walking towards me. To think I had to fight for fifteen minutes before defeating a newbie makes me want to puke.

Hmmm, I snorted while looking away.

Anyway, you deserve some credits for that stunt you pulled earlier.

You mean my time barrier, I asked.

Exactly. I believe that you must be extremely talented to create such a skill in less than a few hours, considering the fact that it had never been done before and it was successful after its first trial makes it more unbelievable.

Although I knew what she said was actually right, I couldn't still understand how I even managed to do it.
