Chapter 19

After arriving at a tall, grand building, Qin Li looked up at it and mocked, "It looks impressive, but it'll be gone after today."

"Let's get started. At this rate, I might as well finish quickly and get back in time for dinner," Frank said coldly.

Noticing Frank's growing bloodlust, Qin Li immediately activated a buff.

"Shield Emblem! Light's Revenge!" With the shield merging and lightning flashing, Frank entered, holding his gun.

Qin Li, watching Frank step into the building, took out his phone and dialed Nick Fury.

"Fury, the operation's begun. Get your people ready," Qin Li said directly.

"Understood, I'll notify them now," Fury responded calmly, before hanging up. He looked at the waiting agent beside him, nodding. The agent took out her phone and sent the pre-prepared message.

As the message went out, SHIELD went into action, and every department started moving. Fury's gaze was sharp as he watched the busy agents on the monitors, as if extracting useful information from them.

Qin Li, with a dark expression, stared at the phone that had just been hung up on him. He didn't expect to get cut off. "Whatever," he thought, standing below the building, watching the chaos unfold. Every so often, someone would crash through the windows and fall to the ground. He noticed SHIELD agents evacuating civilians while no one entered the building. No one from SHIELD asked questions; it was as if it was perfectly normal for people to fall out of the building.

Suddenly, Qin Li sensed the Light's Revenge aura trigger on Frank. He looked up and saw a figure shot out of the top of the building by a massive bolt of lightning, crashing onto a car right in front of him. At first, Qin Li didn't think much of it, assuming it was some unlucky fool who'd accidentally hit Frank and got hit by the retaliatory attack. With the fall from such a height, they should be dead.

But then, when Qin Li looked up at the building, he heard a strange noise from the car. He quickly glanced at the car.

The person who had fallen was now standing up, clad in a tattered Japanese samurai outfit, with blood splattered all over his body, even on his face. He gripped a katana with his right hand, holding the sword sheath in his left. His hair, singed by the lightning, stood up in a wild, explosive style—ruining his image as a cold-blooded samurai.

Seeing Qin Li calmly watching him, the samurai shouted, "Baka yarou!" and rushed toward him with his sword raised.

Qin Li, unfazed, pulled the Thunder Cross from his inventory and swung it in front of him. A burst of lightning radiated outward, sending the samurai flying into a wall before crashing to the ground.

The samurai, half-kneeling and supported by his sword, was still recovering from the shock. As he looked at Qin Li, who casually threw the cross behind him, he realized that the murderer he had fought earlier was working with the man before him. In a furious voice, he shouted, "Who are you? Why are you targeting the Hand?"

Qin Li didn't answer but instead stepped toward the samurai. His arm extended, and the Thunder Cross floated beside him. He grabbed it and swung it powerfully. The samurai, quickly standing and hastily attempting to block with his sword, was crushed by the force and embedded into the wall.

The samurai's body hung limp, his sword and sheath falling to the ground. Blood poured from his mouth as he tried to speak, but his eyes revealed his intent to retaliate. Sensing this, Qin Li raised his hand and summoned the Spear of Victory. He thrust it into the samurai's head, causing it to roll off and the body to fall to the ground.

As the samurai's body turned to ashes and vanished, Qin Li was puzzled by this phenomenon when Frank emerged from the building's entrance.

Without paying much attention to the situation, Qin Li asked, "How's the situation upstairs?"

Frank shrugged, "That was just a small outpost. The elders have never been there, let alone the leader."

Hearing Frank's answer, Qin Li knew there was little that could be done. After all, this place was just a recent arrival. He'd have to go find them later. Too much trouble. Suddenly, a thought crossed his mind, and he asked, "Frank, someone who looked pretty tough for a regular person fell earlier. I killed him, and he turned to ashes and disappeared. How's the situation upstairs?"

Frank looked at him curiously. "The guy I killed did the same thing. No body, no ashes—just gone with the wind."

"What the hell? Could the Hand have developed a new breed of vampire? One that isn't afraid of the sun?" Qin Li's expression darkened.

Frank shook his head, signaling that he had no idea.

"Forget it. Let's head back for now. I'll call Fury or Kingpin later to see if they know anything," Qin Li said, deciding to inquire later.

"Fine, we can get back in time for dinner anyway," Frank said, drawing on a cigar as he glanced at the setting sun.

"Alright, let's go back," Qin Li agreed, and they drove home.

Before they could reach home, Qin Li had already called Fury. Noticing Qin Li on the phone, Frank instinctively slowed down.

"Fury, how did the operation go?" Qin Li asked curiously.

"Not successful. The outpost seemed insignificant to the Hand. After investigating, we found a samurai named Shin, who was their spokesperson. But they don't seem to care about his death," Fury said grimly.

"If you're talking about the samurai in the kimono, he's dead. I did it. What's strange is, he wasn't afraid to die, even had the energy to curse me. After I killed him, his body turned to ashes and vanished," Qin Li replied calmly.

"I don't know what happened either. My agents are still investigating. We might have news later," Fury said, equally puzzled but without enough information to give an explanation.

"Alright, I'll ask Kingpin. Maybe he knows something," Qin Li said before hanging up the phone.

After thinking for a moment, Qin Li turned to Frank and asked, "By the way, Frank, when you killed them, did they show any fear or hesitation?"

Frank thought for a moment, then shook his head. "No. It was like they had no emotions at all."

Qin Li was curious. Why did Shin, the one with emotions, act so calmly in the face of death? Maybe because he was a lower-ranked member who hadn't been brainwashed? But then again, why was he so composed about death, almost as if he could come back to life? Come back to life! Qin Li suddenly realized something, then said, "Damn it, could they be able to resurrect?"

Frank was startled by Qin Li's sudden conclusion. Looking at him with a strange expression, he said, "Li, you're something else. Why would you think they could come back to life? One person, maybe... but so many?"

Qin Li patted his head and laughed, "I guess I'm thinking too much. After all, didn't Matt say they could live forever? Maybe they can come back to life too. Hurry up, let's get back home."
