Troubled Times

Philips decided to bring the group back with him, with his help they arrived quickly at the Strafhampton City and brought Luckas to an infirmary.

-" I take full blame for the situation."

Cyl had a dark face as he faced Philips and Jeffrey, he felt at fault for Luckas's state, now he seriously regretted not escorting Luckas back when he asked for it.

-" Don't blame yourself too hard, the situation may be direr than what it looks like." Philips was crouching next to the carcass of one of the wolves. " Those wolves aren't normal demonic beasts."

Cyl already had his suspicions, but with Philips's confirmation, he lost himself in thought.

-" So what exactly is wrong? There is someone cultivating demonic beasts in the territory?" Jeffrey was tense since he got the news of the investigation, it looked like more and more problems popped up here.

-" Maybe, there is weird energy corrupting the wolves at the verdant forest. Send a group to retrieve their bodies, we can't let this news leak."

Receiving Philips orders Jeffrey moved, he decided to accompany the group to retrieve the bodies of the beasts.

-" Luckas was found next to Byrth village?" Philips was silently thinking for hours as he analyzed the wolf body.

-" I can't confirm the exact location where he has appeared when he transmigrated, but it's likely that he wasn't so distant from there." Cyl answered Philips with haste, he knew that only he could make sense of the situation.

-" How distant was Byrth village from the location where you fought the beast?" Philips knew that Cyl was one of the best army officers, his knowledge about the geography of the territory was really high.

-" While there is quite a distance away from the location where the wolves were and Byrth village, the two are in the Verdant forest. Do you think there is a connection to Luckas transmigration and the wolves?" Cyl had a frown on his face as he asked.

-" Not only that, if I'm not wrong there is a river that runs through the Verdant forest too?"

Cyl nodded as he fell in deep thought, soon he realized something. Byrth said he gained his cultivation technique as a reward for helping cultivators from the Eternal Sun Sect who were drowning in a river next to his village.

-" Do you think that Eternal Sun Sect was any information in this matter?"

-" Who knows, and asking them isn't such a great idea, but there is a high chance of the treasure they want is related to Luckas transmigration and the wolf's corruption. Send even more soldiers to guard the area, if you find any movement inform me." Philips gave even more orders as he tore the space next to him and moved out;

Cyl sighed, the amount of stranges things happening only grew, he sat in Jeffrey's study for some time and decided to visit Luckas.

As he left the army headquarters he met Byrth at their door, the young man had a worried look on his face.

-" Hey, can you tell me where is Luckas? What was the result of the investigation? Was the destroyed convoy the one he was looking for?" Byrth bombarded Cyl with questions the moment he saw him.

Cyl sighed, he didn't think he would meet Byrth so soon, he knew that news would eventually reach him but he didn't want to be the one to give it.

-" It's better for you to follow me, I was about to go see him."

Cyl's answer made Byrth even more worried, but he didn't object much and followed him.

Soon the duo arrived at the army infirmary, Byrth noticed where they were and his face turned dark.

-" Is he okay? Wasn't he with you? What happened there?" Byrth anxiety only grew as he noticed they were at an infirmary.

-" We meet some problems in our trips, his life is safe but he is heavily injured, as for what we faced there, I'm sorry but for now this is confidential information." Cyl answered with an emotional voice, he already blamed himself fully so he was preparing himself to receive all the blame.

-" You were supposed to protect him, what the fuck could be so dangerous that even with you there?" Byrth was outraged, he knew he should have accompanied Luckas on this trip.

-" As Jeffrey squire, you will know in the future, as for the rest its best for you to ask him directly." Cyl had reached a door and opened it.

When Byrth peeked inside the room, his face fell, Luckas was there lying in a bed full of bandages.

-" Luckas, Hey what happened? Are you alright?" As Byrth got closer the noticed the seriousness of his injuries.

Luckas still felt weak and could barely talk but hearing Byrth voice he opened his eyes and meet his gaze. Luckas smiled faintly towards Cyl and Byrth.

-" Hey Cyl, I now a cultivator." Luckas first phrase since being rescued shocked everyone. " Thank you for helping me there, if it wasn't for you, I think I would die back there."

Byrth was almost speechless as he heard what Luckas said, his first thought was that Cyl had ignored Luckas and let him be injured, but now he was filled with doubt.

-" Congratulations on achieving the first level of Qi cultivation, it's an honor to help such a courageous cultivator like you." Cyl felt happy that Luckas didn't blame him. After hearing from Moria who Luckas tried to help him Cyl opinion of Luckas was even higher.

Luckas smiled awkwardly to Cyl and turned to Byrth. He could feel Byrth worry just from his gaze.

-" Yo, looks like I got myself in a bit of trouble there." Luckas didn't know how to face his friend.

-" A little trouble? What the fuck happened there?" Byrth decided to not press him too hard.

-" Hahaha, we meet some beasts there, thank god Philips came to help us, those monsters were too strong."

Byrth was confused as he heard Luckas explanation. "Beasts? How can normal wolves fight against cultivators?"

"Sigh, as Jeffrey's future squire you will know eventually, but seeing that Luckas already told you about some things there is no problem and getting you caught up already." Hearing Cyl talk Byrth worry grew, he already had some idea in his mind about the situation from Luckas's information,

-" Demonic Beast?" Byrth voice shook as he asked.

-" Yes, and a lot of them, more than seventy wolves at the Demonic Body Realm." Byrth didn't know what Demonic Body meant, but this wasn't important, he knew that even the weakest demonic beast was a serious threat for ordinary people or cultivators of the same level, even more, a pack with seventy of them.
