Chapter 39: Powerful Enemies
Samantha said goodbye to Holly later that day and the two of them parted ways. Holly got into a cab that would take her back to the shelter and Samantha began walking on the familiar path back to her apartment.
She knew it was not probably the best idea, given the recent events. But she wanted to do something that would empower her. Something that would tell herself that she was more than the fear that currently made a home in her.
Yes, she was scared. Would she let that fear stop her from doing normal, everyday things? Hell no.
Samantha seemed to bite back on her statement though as she had made it to the front of her apartment building and saw a sleek black SUV parked out front.
And there, leaning against it with his phone in hand, was Richard Washington.
He looked different from what she remembered. Samantha planted her feet to the ground that time, not scared or shaken by his appearance—at least, she tried not to be—as she looked up at him standing mere feet from her.
