Chapter 1: The man at the back

My heart beating fast as my opponent punched me hard smacked in the face. I controlled my breathe and quickly got up.

Get yourself together Ave! you need to win this or else you'll be the laughing stock at university tomorrow.

I punched her harder back but she quickly dodge it. I studied her tactics and finally knew her weakness. I attacked her and she dodge me but I smirked I quickly punched her harder at the back and she ended up falling.

Everyone counted with me as she struggled to get up

"9,10" I won

The room went wild. "Nice job Ave!!" I heard jade yelled along with other people.

I helped Janice to get up but she just push me away She glared at me embarrassed about the fact that I won. The truth is, she dared me to fight her this morning, I refused it but she told me that I was just too weak to knock her over.

"You may have won this, but don't get a hold of yourself" Her minions started helping her. So I just embraced my championship.

The loud murmurs and cheering made me feel so high up in the clouds. I smiled with joy and success. I scanned the audience as it grew louder and louder chanting my name. I raised my hands as a sign of victory.

I saw Janice's coach in the crowd with rage and annoyed face glaring at me, but soon left.

It's not my fault that I'm better.

Just then my big smile turned into a frown when I came across a man at the back, playing with a cigar wearing a black suit while leaning on the wall.

His appearance just made me click in the spine, one of his hand was inside his coat, making me scared that any second now he'll pull out a gun to shoot someone. My opponents dad was a wealthy Businessman, no wonder he won't let her daughter loose.

He has a blonde yet dark hair combed back in a neat way, , broad shoulders, tall man. , maybe around his twenties or more. He looked like someone I knew, but I just cant get link of who he is. If I were about to rate him, I'd rate him about eight over ten in attractiveness.

his cream cold eyes met mine and I knew there was something, he stared at me blankly no expressions stung his face, his face is quite blurry now. His look is unreadable so plain and in an arrogant way.

Fear stung me. He broke the eye contact and left. "Phew..." I blurted happy about the fact that he left.

I got out of the boxing ring while I wiped my sweat, aiming to go to the changing room. My body is like a living faucet despite my appearance. My sweat ran to my armpits and neck.

3 more years and I'll be able to graduate in criminology, after one year of my life I felt drained in energy, I've always dreamt about this, my dad pushed me to what I am now, not that I didn't want this, I wanted this despite my mom's advice to go to acting school to follow her career, but I refused, instead I followed my dreams, to become a police.

following my dad's footsteps has been the best thing I've ever done, and now I am in a boxing ring because of Janice, people cheering my name and just saw this bland man yet attractive man at the back.

I got out of the changing room, wiping my hair. After this I wanted to doze off and eat a lot, it felt like I was a paper soaked in water waiting to be dried. I wanted to relax so bad, that I quickly put on my clothes, not bothered by my smell that didn't really flee away, the smell of sweat still haunted my body, but I didn't care, I am going home after all, what's the point?

Walking in the departments hallway backwards has been a habit of mine. Not that I liked it but I don't want anyone following me, even when I was a kid, dad told me that there are lots of evil mankinds in this world, and to be careful from them. It's like devil hiding in a person's body to camouflage them from their next prey.

Even though the department is closed this time of the day (6:00pm Philippine time)

The cold air still rounds the place. Strands of my uncombed hair dance in the wind bittly.

When I was sure no one was following me, I turned my body back to walk normally. I can't get that man out my head, who was he? he looked really familiar to someone I knew, but I couldn't figure out who.

Suddenly I noticed someone waiting at the exit door, his back facing me from the distance. It took me one look at him to know that he was the man at the back earlier. Oh my! is he the one who's going to assassinate me. Maybe watching mystery movies at night isn't a good idea Ave.

I took out a pocket knife secretly and hid it behind my hands, so if he tries to grab me, I'll have something to defend me.

One year of training, I also knew how to protect myself.

I acted that I didn't care, but the truth is I'm a little scared but I won't let him know that, it will just please him to do something to me.

I had a hard grip in the knife. He'll attack me anytime now, but still I walk pass him, not making eye contact, I acted that he didn't exist. I passed him ten steps away. Delighted about the fact that nothing happened. But as I was going to open the door, I heard him walking to me, he threw away his cigar on the marble floor living a small sound of burning paper that smelled horrible, true it's like any other cigar but I wasn't really a fan of of it or in other words I hate it!.

In the corner of my eye, I can see him getting closer and closer What do I do? I was going to open the door and run away.

But he said something that stopped me dead in my tracks. "long time no see...captains daughter" It took me seconds to process that voice in my mind. I turned around to see an attractive man, now his face is not blurry, he looks so manly, his luxury suit really suits him. He look back at me with a soft smile, only one person calls me that.

"Mason?"
