Sometimes the people around us make stupid decisions and sometimes we idiotically support it, not knowing it's gonna come back to bite our asses.
Well I just have this feeling that this one is mine.
"Your plan sucks." I grumbled wiping the sweat dripping off my forehead.
"It's not that bad." Felicia tried to patronize as I slowly crawled behind her through the vents. "...For my first heist."
"Right." I sarcastically rolled my eyes.
"And with this left-." She looked at the tracker map, took a turn and stopped. "We are here."
She pushed herself up from all fours and sat comfortably, while going through her backpack. The vents were fairly small and we only managed to squeeze through it because of our sizes.
This was the most secretive and least guarded way, I guess the museum never really thought about the possibility profesional kid buglers, well that's their bad.
Felicia took out a mini-drill finally after a minute, she gave me a smirk and wiggled her brows in pride as she began to drill out the nails.
"And done." She chimed removing the final screw. She tapped the metal panel and it flipped to the side like a door.
Felicia gripped the edges of the panel and peeked her head down below and looked around for a moment before rising back up.
"The coast is clear." She said with an ok sign and I nodded, attaching the rope to the vent's top and threw it down.
I slowly descended while keeping a close eye on my sides, I dropped down to the ground when I was a foot high and looked up as Felicia threw her bag to me before climbing down herself.
As Felicia joined me on the ground, we found ourselves standing in a dimly lit hallway of the London Museum.
The air was thick with anticipation and a sense of thrill, but also with the weight of the risks we were taking.
We exchanged a determined look, acknowledging the gravity of our actions.
"Alright." I whispered, keeping my voice low. "Let's roll."
Our knowledge of the museum's layout proved invaluable as we navigated through the maze-like corridors. We moved stealthily, keeping close to the walls. Avoiding the gaze of security cameras and the patrolling guards was a walk in the park.
We didn't spend most of yesterday memorizing the security pattern only to get caught now.
Our plan was simple: we used yesterday to recon this mission and had planned to execute it tonight so that once Fox returned the next morning, we could surprise him with the steal.
As we approached our target, I found myself in a familiar hall, and my steps came to a halt as I turned my gaze toward the purple diamond, the size of my fist, sitting right there on display.
Felicia stopped behind me and followed my gaze.
"Sweet Jesus." She whistled, her eyes sparkling with a mix of obsession and excitement as she looked at the Pharaoh's star. I reached out and gently touched her arm, breaking her trance-like state.
"Keep your klepto hands to yourself." I remarked, watching her take a step toward it.
"Geez, I'm not a klepto." She huffed, taking a step back. "I just have an unhealthy craving for shiny, sparkling objects that aren't mine."
"Right, and that's exactly not the definition of a klepto." I rolled my eyes again and continued walking forward. Felicia gave the stone a narrowed glance and followed me.
Together, we moved past the display case, leaving the jewel behind.
Our journey through the museum continued, encountering various artifacts and priceless artworks. Each time Felicia's gaze lingered, I couldn't help but admire her struggle with self-control. I had to constantly remind her about the objective.
Finally, we arrived before our target. We both stood in front of it, our eyes sparkling with excitement, especially Felicia's. Its spherical surface reflected the moonlight streaming through the skylight effortlessly.
The object was encased in fiberglass and had a set of locks attached to its stand. We carefully analyzed its security systems, meticulously planning our next moves.
Felicia took a confident step forward, determination gleaming in her eyes.
"I got this." She murmured, her voice oozing with confidence.
I watched as she deftly manipulated the lock, her fingers moving with expert precision, disabling alarms and skillfully navigating through laser grids. It was a delicate dance, testing both her skills and nerve.
Seconds stretched into what felt like an eternity as we held our breath, eagerly awaiting that satisfying click. And then, it happened. The lock turned, and the glass box finally detached.
Felicia smirked, her hands reaching towards the glass, ready to open it. But before she could, my ears perked up, catching the sound of approaching footsteps.
Instinctively, I grabbed her hands and pulled her close, causing her to let out a surprised yelp. Without explaining, I quickly led us towards the shade behind a statue, the black track suits helping us blend into the darkness.
"What?" Felicia whispered, raising her eyebrows in confusion.
I pressed a finger against my lips and pointed towards a nearby corridor. She turned her head just as a beam of light spilled into the hall.
Following the light, a man walked into the area, his footsteps echoing through the walls as he moved closer to our hiding spot.
We held our breaths, hoping he wouldn't stop. The beam of light from his torch passed by us, and thankfully, he continued on without noticing our presence. Moments later, I cautiously peeked out and confirmed that he was heading away from us.
"Go." I muttered, and Felicia quickly rolled over to the exhibit.
"Come to mama." She mumbled, retrieving the Fabergé egg from its cage. She gazed at its shiny golden surface, giving it a gentle kiss before stashing it into her backpack.
"If you're done making out with the egg, let's go."
"Why? Jealous it wasn't you?" She smirked playfully.
I didn't bother replying. A death glare was all it took to silence her.
"You're no fun." She pouted.
Not wanting to waste any more time, I slowly retreated, leading us back through the museum's corridors and vents, retracing our steps to make our way out.
Just as we reached the Egyptian gallery, Felicia's steps came to a halt as her gaze once again fixated on the Pharaoh's star.
"Can we at least-" She started to say, but I quickly interrupted her.
"Don't even think about it." I growled.
"Yeah, no, you're right." She sighed. "That would be totally insane."
"Hey!"
My head snapped around as my eyes widened in shock, catching the glimmer of light reflecting off the guard's torch on my mask.
How the hell did I not hear him approaching? I had no idea.
My body instinctively reacted, and before I even realized it, I had closed half the distance between us, my leg raised high.
I delivered a swift kick right across his face before he could raise the alarm, but in my haste, I failed to consider the direction of my kick.
"Arghhh!" He cried out in pain as his back collided with the glass encasing the Pharaoh's star. He collapsed with his eyes rolled back, and I watched in slow motion as the diamond shifted an inch.
"Fuck."
In an instant, the museum was bathed in a crimson glow as the blaring alarms shattered the silence.
"Oh shit." Felicia muttered in disbelief, standing beside me as she scanned the gallery.
"Is he dead?" She asked, pointing at the unconscious man.
"We've got bigger problems now." I replied, my heightened senses picking up the sound of multiple footsteps closing in on us.
"We need to get out of here, now!" I yelled, grabbing her hand and pulling her along.
We sprinted through the Egyptian gallery as my mind raced through the possibilities.
We hadn't obtained the Pharaoh's stone, and we can always abandon the Egg if it came down to it. We still had some time before MI6 made their move. Our best bet was to make it into the city and lay low for a day before making our escape.
It was a risky plan, but it seemed our only option.
"Eddy!" Felicia yelled, pointing at the beams of torchlight approaching from the front.
"Shit!" I cursed, veering into the Greek section.
My eyes scanned the hall, and I spotted a towering statue of Atlas. Pulling Felicia behind it, we waited for the guards to pass.
"Come on! This way!" one of them shouted, gesturing toward the Egyptian gallery we had just left.
I listened as their footsteps faded away, then turned to Felicia, who was trying to catch her breath. Taking a moment to gather my own thoughts amidst the chaos, I mentally retraced the museum's layout.
"Eddy, the African exhibit has a fire exit." Felicia interjected.
"Yeah, that could work." I agreed.
Peeking out again, I saw the guards preoccupied with attending to their unconscious colleague. I glanced back at Felicia and nodded, receiving a nod in return.
On the count of three, we both rose to our feet and sprinted toward our destination.
It took us a grueling half hour to reach the African exhibit. The journey through this labyrinthine museum had drained every ounce of energy as we stealthily evaded every guard we encountered.
But we were finally on the brink of escaping. I sighed as I entered the segment, with Felicia following closely behind.
My eyes scanned the tribal masks displayed on holders and the assortment of wooden weapons adorning the walls. I took a quick glance at them, ready to move on, when something caught my attention.
'It can't be right?' I murmured to myself, drawn toward a particular weapon.
"What are you doing?!" Felicia whispered urgently, her eyes darting between the corridor and the exit.
I picked up the weapon, my curiosity getting the better of me. As I was about to examine it more closely, my ears perked up once again, detecting someone approaching. But this time, the footsteps were heavy and swift. They abruptly stopped upon seeing us.
"Drop the weapon, mate." The newcomer commanded.
He was clad in sleek armor with a striking red and blue cross emblazoned across his chest. His face was concealed by a mask bearing the same pattern, and his eyes gleamed pure white, matching the gloves that extended to his full length.
"Captain Britain demands it!"
