Chapter 35: First Few Friends in the Marvel World

After Emma entered Charles's office, she looked around casually. It was spacious, with shelves filled with books, worthy of belonging to one of the most intelligent people in the universe.

She said, "Good morning, Professor Xavier."

Charles was still wearing that smiling face. Sometimes, Emma doubted if Charles was a descendant of the Sorcerer Supreme, not because they were both bald but because of their usual calm demeanor.

Charles, who didn't know what she was thinking, replied without any formality, "Good morning, Emma."

In fact, he could sense that Emma had been on guard around him, tense, like most people he encountered. This was one downside of his power, everyone who came in contact with him shared the same thought. He couldn't really blame them.

But what comforted him was that at the very least, the fact that she gained power wasn't in her head. He came to this conclusion after watching her cooking livestream; she was so serene at that time.

Nonetheless, after greeting her, he gestured for her to sit, which she thanked him for and then sat.

He said, "To be honest, you are a little earlier than I expected, but it's also good. This will give you time to visit the establishment."

Emma replied, "After all, I should be a little early as the teacher. Plus, I'm very curious about your academy. Who knows, I may someday open my own school and help children in need."

As usual, Charles was overconfident about his abilities, thinking that she would definitely join his ranks. He took what she said as if she were joking.

He said, "I saw your lunch live cooking session yesterday. I was very interested in the way you were teaching; it seems that you have great potential for teaching."

'Joke, my years of teaching aren't for play,' she thought, but still, she replied, "Thanks. I also think I would be a good teacher, but anyway, are there any requirements, like things I should or shouldn't do?"

Charles appreciated Emma's confidence. Due to being mutants, many people here, like Jean, had some inferiority complexes.

As for the requirements, there really weren't many, he thought. He said, "The rules here are simple. We just guide the students to not become bad people and give them some confidence. As long as it's not something excessive or abusive, you can basically teach them however you like. After all, they aren't normal people."

Emma nodded. Since it was the first day, she was basically just getting in contact with the students. In the afternoon, she would have some sparring sessions with the X-Men, something they had discussed before.

She said, "Then that's it. I'll basically just be getting in contact with the students today."

Charles was more reassured by what she said. He was taking a risk by letting a newly awakened mutant teach in his school. If anything bad happened, he would have to bear the responsibility.

"Also," he remembered the reason he wanted to see her in the first place. He said, "If it's not too much trouble, I hope you can let the students watch your training session with the X-Men."

"This will give them a good idea of how powerful you are and also allow them to have hope and confidence in you."

Emma thought about it. She didn't see what she would lose in this. Anyway, the biggest advantage of her system was that it made her unpredictable.

Even if people studied all her powers perfectly, she could simply acquire something new that would ruin their predictions. Strength is everything, after all.

"Alright," she finally said, a small smile on her lips. "I don't mind if the students watch. It might actually be a good opportunity for them to see what they're capable of with the right guidance."

After that, they didn't discuss much else, and the atmosphere became a little awkward. Emma left the office, and Storm was still outside waiting for her.

Seeing Emma finally coming out, Storm, who had started getting bored, was much more energetic. Like her name suggested, she wasn't a person used to calm.

They continued their conversation, which mostly consisted of Storm telling her about her adventures. Emma was a good listener, learning more about mutants from Storm's stories.

It seemed that in this world, the Apocalypse plot hadn't happened yet. Instead, Storm told her about the Black King Shaw when discussing the different mutant factions that existed.

Apparently, since Shaw was still alive, it wasn't the version who tortured and killed Magneto's mother. This truly was a strange timeline.

As they were talking, someone approached. Even without looking, Emma already knew who it was because the energy radiating from this person was the deepest she had ever sensed, like an ocean.

In fact, Jean had known Emma was here for a while. She had been talking with Storm when Emma arrived, and the professor had told Storm to receive her.

Usually, Jean didn't like meeting new people because of her ability to read thoughts, even when it was unintentional. There were only about 40 people she liked talking to.

These included Charles, whose thoughts she couldn't read due to his ability, and Storm and Logan, who were straightforward and honest with her. Then there was her enemy, Wanda.

Strangely, despite being enemies, she had developed a sort of friendship with Wanda, even though they were from opposing camps and frequently fought. Perhaps it was what they called the sympathy between the strong?

There were usually some people whose thoughts she couldn't read for special reasons, like Magneto and his helmet, but these four were the most significant to her.

As for Emma, Jean had been curious about this newly awakened mutant, who seemed to be at her level. The fact that she couldn't read her thoughts was a big clue.

At the same time, Jean was envious of her. Unlike Jean and Wanda, Emma wasn't affiliated with any group, and even the government seemed to want to make her popular.

While Jean was having these thoughts, she and Emma had been looking at each other for five seconds, each lost in their own thoughts.

Emma was, in fact, trying to figure out whether Jean could read her mind. Normally, because of the relationship between chakra and the spirit, the more chakra one possessed, the stronger their spirit was.

Tsunade, being a descendant of both the Senju and Uzumaki clans, may have lacked nothing except chakra. Tsunade also had spirit-based techniques learned from Grandma Mito, including ones meant to counter the Kyubi's mind erosion in case it ever went out of control.

However, none of this was really the reason Jean couldn't read her mind. It was something else, something very important, but Emma seemed to have forgotten about it.
