Luminos Maximus, God of Twilight

Greetings, My name is Thorus Maxima. I will write down the story of my life for you. Because you, my descendants, deserve to know the truth and not the herofied version that the bards sing. I am no Hero. I am everything, but a Hero. I am just some orphan that was fed up with the system. Originally the system was filled with good intentions. At least this is what I want to believe. Now it is rotten to the brink. While you are reading this, be aware that this is the truth. My life has never been easy, from day one I was confronted with the darkside of humanity. My youth is nothing that I want children to read about. If you are not of legal age I implore you to close the book and ask your parents about me. Let them tell you all the beautiful stories, legends and myths about me. Come back when you think you have learned everything about me, and reached legal age. [AN: This is a work of fiction. It is written from the perspective of the main character, he is older and wiser than he was at the time these things happened.] [Attention: The First part of the book is dark, and contains a lot of swearing.] [I am open for feedback and constructive criticism but keep your hate at a minimum. This is my book and I know how I want to write it.]

Cruel Humanity

To my own disappointment, I woke up again.

The first thought that shot through my mind was the question how I survived the explosion, Until I realized that I was an infant once again.

To be honest I was pissed. I was so pissed that I began to scream. The problem was that, what I imaganged as a mighty roar filled with indignation was the pitiful whimpering of a newborn.

My whimpering resulted in the appearance of a girl. I immediately suspected her to be my mother. This assumption was further enhanced by the fact that she revealed her breasts and began to feed me. I drank what she offered and it tasted awesome. Like the sweetest nectar of life. I have never had something better than that. She started to speak to me calmly. I understood nothing from what she said.

Since then I have viewed Hilda as my mother. Hilda was a young girl, 13 years old and as a matter of fact the kindest and most saintly soul that I have ever met in my existence.

After I finished drinking with a satisfied burp, Hilda kissed me on the forehead and whispered into my ear: "Now sleep little baby boy, sweet dreams."

I was shocked that I was suddenly able to understand her. She put me back into the crip that was in the far corner of the room and covered her exposed breasts again.

Suddenly another young girl bust into the room

"Hilda, Mister Rafal is back again."

Before she could finish, an old handsome man in extreme luxurious clothes stepped behind her and grabbed her by the hair. without uttering a word he forcefully pulled the girl by the hair and flung her out of the room like a piece of trash. The sound of the girl's body hitting the floor outside could be heard before she made haste to get away. I heard her cry.

The Old Man was Aktun Rafal. He was around 60 Years old, He was the second most influential noble in the City. Only the City lord had more influence and status than him but he had no real authority over Rafal.

Aktun Rafal was a noble of the True Knight rank. That in itself wasn't what made him dangerous. His occupation as Mage Hunter, and commander of a special ops division of the Mage Hunter was what made him dangerous.

His position put him above the Law basically only regulated by the royal family and his superiors in the Mage Hunter corps.

Hilda had frozen in place the second she saw the old noble.

"Good day, Mister Rafal," despite her stiffness her voice was calm and she didn't stutter, "how can I be of service, today?"

It was evident that she was terrified of the old man. In my head multiple scenarios were already unfolding one worse than the other.

"It is always a pleasure seeing you, Hilda! There is only one reason for me to come to this run down orphanage…"

I do not remember the next part of their conversation. I was frozen in place. I was in an orphanage again. My mother was an orphan… No. That was unlikely. I was an orphan and Hilda wasn't my mother at all.

I was doomed to be an orphan again?

No, I refuse. Hilda is my mother. She has to be. I can not survive another orphanage like the last one. I can not survive another life without a mother.

While these thoughts occupied my mind, servants entered the room and prepared a dinner table. It only had a plate for Aktun Rafal. In front of the dinner table was another, lower, table, it had restraints and was covered in old bloodstains.

The next thing that happened was that two guards brought a young woman into the room and strapped her onto the lower Table. They pulled the restraints as strong as possible, and left the room collectively. Leaving behind only Hilda and Aktun Rafal.

Rafal began to speak in a ritual-like manner. He handed Hilda a sharp knife. I watched how Hilda killed the woman by slicing open her throat after apologizing for that.. Rafal reprimanded her for her actions. Before Hilda started to crack open the woman's chest and handed her heart to Aktun Rafal like a ritual offering.

Aktun Rafal thanked Hilda before he ate the heart raw. After Aktun Rafal ate the human heart, Hilda began to butcher the woman. One after another Aktun Rafal ate the internal organs of the dead woman.

Hilda also had the job to cut the rest into sizable pieces that Aktun Rafal took with him to eat another time.

I wasn't really listening the first time but over the years I saw the scene often, he only ate the organs in front of Hilda but never the flesh.

I can not imagine what drove him to do these kinds of things but it did show me one thing: "No Matter where you are. Human Cruelty is boundless."

I don't know why he does that to Hilda or to anyone really. But seeing what he is capable of, I do not dare to imagine what he would do to my mother if she would ever refuse him.

After Rafal left, and his servants cleared up after him, Hilda cried herself to sleep. The thick scent of blood filled the whole room, the helplessness in her whimpering sobs was heart wrecking. I was only able to sleep after the sound faded away and only her steady breathing filled the room.

I lived like a slave in my first life only to see my mother treated as one in my second. I swore to myself that I would make Aktun Rafal pay for that one way or another, and if it would be the last thing I would do.

After falling asleep I found myself in another horrible situation.

In the 'dream' which was more of a vision to be fair.

The dream started harmless. A group of three that sat around a campfire. A young boy around 15 and a middle-aged couple most likely his parents. The surroundings that were illuminated by the fire told a not so happy tale. The family sat in the ruins of a building. The walls around them were broken. It was clearly the aftermath of many explosions.

The group had a lighthearted conversation until a group of 5 men appeared around them. These men were armed with knives and wooden clubs. The family around the fire was surrounded but grabbed their own weapons.

"What do we have here?" The biggest man in the group said, "Such a sweet little family."

The eyes of the man scanned the three of them before he said towards the man. "I am in a good mood today. If you hand over your wife willingly you can have her back in the morning and you and your son will survive another day."

The face of the man who got insulted was disfigured in a grimace of hate, anger and disgust. Without answering the bandits taunting words he lunged forward. The resulting fight wasn't a happy ending after killing 3 of the bandits the valiant man died. The two surviving men attacked the wife and the boy, while the boy fought a losing battle against his attacker his mother had it even worse.

The boy saw how the leader smashed his mother on the ground gloatingly taunting her. Seeing that she had no chance of victory the mother slit her own throat, preferring death to whatever the bandits would have done to her.

Seeing the death of his parents the boy was filled with anger and hate. And he defended himself with refound vigor against his attacker. The Leader of the bandits was not so happy about that as he kicked the dead woman several times in his anger until the noise of fighting behind him stopped.

In the unshakable assumption that his subordinate survived he didn't even turn around before ordering him around to loot everything of value. Only as he didn't get any reply from him did he turn to the place where the noise stopped only to see his man dead and the boy gone.

Panicking he turned around scanning the ruin for signs of the boy only to be pierced in the neck by a knife. As he turned his head to see who killed him he saw the boy looming over him.

I saw everything from the perspective of the boy. This boy was Jeremy Florescu a 15 years old boy that just lost his parents and all his faith in humanity.

After he killed the bandits Jeremy started to pack up the camp taking only the essentials that he needed before he fled the scene.

This was my first day in the new world and I already wanted to be somewhere else. I lived my first life like a slave and it looked like I would live my second life as a slave too.
