Because He Loves Her

Kane didn't show up very often after Casey started seeing Vera every day. Pretty much only if the bullying at school got especially bad or if something happened in the foster home when he wasn't with her. He didn't see her at all for a few years and was a bit thrown off by how much she had grown in that time. She had been such a shrimp before. 

  He was only here when she was because she happened to catch them at a bad time. There had been an incident where Casey had a panic attack and Kane came out after he hit a deer while getting his practice driving hours in. 

He wasn't the only one either. Annette had been freaked out too. 

It hadn't taken much to put two and two together. "Did Casey hit that deer?"

His foster mom sighed. "Hi, Kane. Yeah. It came out of nowhere. I've never hit a deer before so I'm not sure if we're supposed to call animal control to take care of the carcass or…"
