"There are a plenty of great women who changed our society, country and world by their exceptional outlook of life for better. They fought relentlessly against the curse male-dominated society put on women, bringing waves of development and eventually tearing women out of the black shell of ignorance, domestic violence, physical abuse and the list go on.
Among them, one oft-overlooked, yet my most favourite is Begum Rokeya, the one my dad used to inspirit me with for education in childhood.
There was a time when education was prohibited for girls in Bengal. Let alone education, girls were not even allowed to step out of their home, and talk to anyone from the opposite gender, except for their family members. They had to live in the shadow of men. Household chores and raising kids were the only things they used to spend their lives doing.
